@todpolson It isn't a story. It's a poem by Bukowski that someone made a movie for. God forbid any kids would have to actually pick up a book and read something.
@kessuperstara He teaches on the illustration course I was on, he's a very nice chap, I wish more tutors were as approachable as him. I'm not sure how he feels about the fact that his style has been ripped off by about 90% of illustrators/designers though!
I don't get where someone may find the protaganist to be a wife beater? Or how any of us may draw assumption of what an artist is, "thinking". It's a piece of prose, a sublime writing. Metaphorical, no doubt.
@ubiquim well, considering he was described as a stereotypical redneck "wife beater" and the first words were "You goddamned whore" it's misleading at best.
@ZKoftherebellion Fair enough. Most prose is metaphorical. Or can be percieved as such.Regarding some of the oldest writings; these move through time and can be allegorical at best. This to me is amazing, it's stupendous. Perhaps some of us believe the "world" to be a whore, the man with beautiful eyes to be more than human- if you will...and then, apathetic, such as the world is at times.
Amaizing piece! I love Bukowski's poetry and Hodgson's animations. Can't wait to see it on big screen on Etiuda&Anima Fastival in Cracow. It's going to be great!
@TheOldRecluse I know all that. That's the intention of the poem, that's how Bukowski saw himself and I think that's admirable but not accurate. Not everyone who is an outcast is an innocent victim. Not everyone who advocates an orderly society is some maniacal fascist. Then again, maybe I'm just assuming too much from "you goddamned whore" and the fact his eyes were described as angry. This is still very poetic animation accompanying poetic words.I like it, but the worldview makes no sense to me
@TheOldRecluse ??? I just don't see it. All I saw was a dangerously unbalanced wife-beater who burned down his own house and the kids assumed that HE was the victim because they liked his yard and he never did anything to them. That doesn't make the man honest...in fact, that "hello, little gentlemen" sounded like he was fighting to keep him from kicking them. Some people need to lie to themselves and others because it's the only thing keeping them from becoming serial killers.
what kind of film is this? like ive seen many in school where it was an animation of paintings with someone narating a poem or tribal/instrumental music sometimes playing. i want to look up more but idk what to search
I think that the child in the missing ad was a girl and was the missing jane and lived in the house with the kidnapper who was the man. When he was good and done with living there and the girl either died, ran away or went with him he burnt down the house and got rid of the evidence. The parents knew the beauty was actually an illusion, a facade that was making the children be blinded so they were protecting them. The kids just didn't know that. Amazing video, could be taken many different ways.
@tofster666 Just because you toss around the word god and use an ellipsis doesn't make what you say profound. It just makes you sound ridiculous. This poem has a meaning.
@Chacanin032 - I feel like he wrote it about himself. Being a man that does/says what he wants, he feels like a raw, natural, beautiful man. Yet, him being an alcoholic, who fucks / does what he wants, he's not accepted by most of society. Maybe he feels they were jealous of him living on how he did. Who knows, who can say?
Hey wow, that was truely amazingly done! Im acctualy kinda suprised, i dont know what to think about it. The film left me rather confused. I think I know what he'd ment in the poem. Nevermind :P Its just amazing, thats all I say :) <3

@og882001 I've always felt that he wrote it about himself but like all poetry, it's open for individual interpretation.

@Chacanin032 I thought it was about how the world looks through the eyes of a child
there's an innocent logic to their thoughts and they see beauty in a dangerous thing they don't yet understand
