@nathen92 you're right in saying that this is not a madrigal. let me breeze you thru this world-renowned group then. the madz sing contemporary songs to cater to a wider audience. however madrigals remain a staple in their repertoire. since its inception in the early 60s, they've been competing in international choral festivals most notably in europe where they bested other choirs in categories such as madrigals, sacred, classical , contemporary and folk music.
What a Very Inspiring kind of song and singers, you make us proud as a Filipino, more power to MADZ singers all i can say is God Bless you guys in all your Competitions, congratulations guys.

this is a very nice song.. but i think nice would be an understatement so i go for magnificent.. and the madz did a very wonderful job.. the bass part of this song is very hard and very beautiful at the same time..

Wow I can't believe someone would actually though that EGP is some kind of a so so competition. it is just plain logic European Grand Prix that means of all Europe or perhaps in the whole world that they are the best. Queen Elizabeth Choir Competition?? yeah right it sounds good because the name of Queen Elizabeth sounds prestigious to some people!!
the website of the queen elisabeth usic competition in belgium, for the vocal category, lists the the participants (who were laureates) who were all individuals, not choirs.
and one thing more, if you refer to the director as the Madz' present director, i opine that saying that "he should stop playing it safe and join some challenging festivals" might...MIGHT...be interpreted as "having to" prove his worth. I think that being the choirmaster of the Madz is in itself a proof of one's musical worth in the field of choral conduting, and of one's musical talent.
not really. and frankly speaking, the EGP isn't that much of a cut-throat competition considering that it was only inaugurated 20 years ago, plus considering that mostly the same choirs compete every year.
their director should stop playing it safe and join some challenging festivals like the queen elisabeth music competition which has been around for decades, and since the madz likes to play it madrigal-style, they should join some of those too.
one observation. the fact the that EGP has just recently started compared to other competitions doesn't take away its importance, given that the participants in the EGP had been champions of other competitions. and whether the participants of the EGP are more or less the same, it only means that they have the capacity to win in the competitions.
lol you're kidding right? The EGP is the most prestigious chorale singing competition in the world. And that's just one of the other numerous international competitions they have won.

@kerobi11, if you're complaining that much, why not tell it directly to Sir Mark Carpio. And besides, you have to understand that there is absolutely no perfect choir, however there are EXCELLENT choirs (and madz is one of them).
too much vibrato on the sop and bass section. use control and don't show off too much, make sure to sound as one. tenor went flat on 2:29. lovin the momma alto sound. very good and subtle dynamics. meno vibrato on all parts, this is not an aria.
hon, honestly speaking, i think wala nang pakialam ang judges sa Diyos pagdating sa international contests, specially from a "world renowned" choir who's singing this.
you obviously need to hear other choirs do this other than the madz (who is really undisputed, but have their off days).

siguro naman kung hindi totoong madrigal singers nga ang kumanta nito e hindi na nila kailangang magpanggap na madz sila dahil maganda ang tunog nila di ba? try nyo maghanap ng mga lumang records ng madz nandoon tong kantang to dahil narinig ko na to dati. this very same version. at yung nagsasabi na di daw madz ito,iba ibang batch po ang mga members ng madz kaya medyo nababago ang tunog nila like yung soprano, may batch na gusto ko ang tunog ng soprano may batch naman na maganda na din.

Ok, ngayon ko lang binasa yung mga older comments. So it is indeed of an older batch, kaya pala. Kaya nakaka-off yung sops dahil nga sa diction... And the basses, are really out of color.

Anong batch ng Madz ito? Touching song, emotions are very much felt. Well, bothering lang overall yung basses in most parts notably at 3:02 (tone color?). Pati rin sopranos 00:38 onwards sa melody part (I can imagine it sung more beautifully). I'm quite sure this is an old recording.

Just for my curiosity, how long have you been watching them? I've seen not a few batches since I first went to the UP Conservatory of Music in 1985. All batches have their strengths and weaknesses. Can you really say in all honesty that the 2007 batch is the best? They may well be but I just want to know the basis you have for making that claim.
to feed your curiosity, I based my judgement on the recordings of the previous batches of the Madz (I think I have all of them). That may be a limited experience of their sound, but then again, I can't watch any of their concerts, can I? I have watched most of the major concerts of the madz since 2000.

This is MADZ. I'm certain. In my copy the audience can be heard applauding right after the performance. Sometime in live performances, the recording is not good depending upon the acoustics of the venue and the adjustments of the microphones. Peace^^

I dont think this is the Madz singing... the diction is kinda off. listent to how they pronounce the words "instrument" and "injury", geez it is hurting my ear! Sorry but, this might be some other choir singing...
this is not the Philippine Madrigal Singers' version. they are a lot better than this choir who sung this. synchronization and modulation is the Madz' forte but this video defies it all.

Wow I can't believe someone would actually though that EGP is some kind of a so so competition. it is just plain logic European Grand Prix that means of all Europe or perhaps in the whole world that they are the best. Queen Elizabeth Choir Competition?? yeah right it sounds good because the name of Queen Elizabeth sounds prestigious to some people!!

and one thing more, if you refer to the director as the Madz' present director, i opine that saying that "he should stop playing it safe and join some challenging festivals" might...MIGHT...be interpreted as "having to" prove his worth. I think that being the choirmaster of the Madz is in itself a proof of one's musical worth in the field of choral conduting, and of one's musical talent.

not really. and frankly speaking, the EGP isn't that much of a cut-throat competition considering that it was only inaugurated 20 years ago, plus considering that mostly the same choirs compete every year.
their director should stop playing it safe and join some challenging festivals like the queen elisabeth music competition which has been around for decades, and since the madz likes to play it madrigal-style, they should join some of those too.

one observation. the fact the that EGP has just recently started compared to other competitions doesn't take away its importance, given that the participants in the EGP had been champions of other competitions. and whether the participants of the EGP are more or less the same, it only means that they have the capacity to win in the competitions.

too much vibrato on the sop and bass section. use control and don't show off too much, make sure to sound as one. tenor went flat on 2:29. lovin the momma alto sound. very good and subtle dynamics. meno vibrato on all parts, this is not an aria.
other than that, i'd give it a B+.

hon, honestly speaking, i think wala nang pakialam ang judges sa Diyos pagdating sa international contests, specially from a "world renowned" choir who's singing this.
you obviously need to hear other choirs do this other than the madz (who is really undisputed, but have their off days).
and btw, that's Diyos, with a capital D.

siguro naman kung hindi totoong madrigal singers nga ang kumanta nito e hindi na nila kailangang magpanggap na madz sila dahil maganda ang tunog nila di ba? try nyo maghanap ng mga lumang records ng madz nandoon tong kantang to dahil narinig ko na to dati. this very same version. at yung nagsasabi na di daw madz ito,iba ibang batch po ang mga members ng madz kaya medyo nababago ang tunog nila like yung soprano, may batch na gusto ko ang tunog ng soprano may batch naman na maganda na din.

Ok, ngayon ko lang binasa yung mga older comments. So it is indeed of an older batch, kaya pala. Kaya nakaka-off yung sops dahil nga sa diction... And the basses, are really out of color.
But in the over all, it's still effectively touching.

Anong batch ng Madz ito? Touching song, emotions are very much felt. Well, bothering lang overall yung basses in most parts notably at 3:02 (tone color?). Pati rin sopranos 00:38 onwards sa melody part (I can imagine it sung more beautifully). I'm quite sure this is an old recording.

I think it's what you implied about the older generation that is a bit lacking in respect. Bases and Sopranos are terrible because it was of an older batch. Show some more respect.

What I was implying was that this couldn't be the present batch of the Madz, because the present batch sound way much better. Just for my curiosity, how long have you been watching them? I've seen not a few batches since I first went to the UP Conservatory of Music in 1985. All batches have their strengths and weaknesses. Can you really say in all honesty that the 2007 batch is the best? They may well be but I just want to know the basis you have for making that claim.

to feed your curiosity, I based my judgement on the recordings of the previous batches of the Madz (I think I have all of them). That may be a limited experience of their sound, but then again, I can't watch any of their concerts, can I? I have watched most of the major concerts of the madz since 2000.
1985 CoM ka pala, if you're affiliated with the group and were offended by my comment pasensiya na, I didn't mean to offend the oldies.

My apologies if my comments also seemed harsh. Problem with the internet is that words on the screen do not carry the person's true intent and can easily be misconstrued.
Like I said earlier, the different batches have their own unique strengths. Personally, I'm inclined to the '97 batch and the early 90s. But that's me.

This is MADZ. I'm certain. In my copy the audience can be heard applauding right after the performance. Sometime in live performances, the recording is not good depending upon the acoustics of the venue and the adjustments of the microphones. Peace^^

this is not the Philippine Madrigal Singers' version. they are a lot better than this choir who sung this. synchronization and modulation is the Madz' forte but this video defies it all.
