  • this is good old iron and wine

  • this song would really fit in the Juno soundtrack

  • @AtomicVHPunk haha, true :)

  • @AtomicVHPunk It would.

  • The only way to kill a lion is with a rear naked choke..

  • This song is not about the difficulties in life, but about how we have lost intimacy and personal contact in love. Love is the lion, and we must reach into it's mane, right next to it's jaws, in order to find it.

Truth is, some of us can't do it. Let's face it, trust and intimacy are scary, especially when we can't control the lion.

  • @Callihan343 well said

  • @Callihan343 nice interpretation that's awesome

  • Respond to this video... Beautiful understanding of the Lion metaphor, however I think you are forgetting that the Lions mane is actually refering to Samuels wicked beard. Imagine reaching into that! who knows what you would find... some say another guitar, others say Jesus lives in there.

  • lions mane is the best name for a band

  • lo-fi is fly

  • Comment removed

  • this video needs more than a million views!!!

  • this song is absolutley beautilful. i think this song is about love, and how its so hard sometimes. the lions mane is a metaphor about how when your in love your so close to danger, the danger being the lions mouth, but if you can get past it it is the best thing opn this earth. "and love is the best endeavor, waiting in the lions mane." genious. sam beam blows my mind

  • Anyone else notice a strong, though probably unconscious, influence from Simon and Garfunkel's 'The Boxer' here?

  • Beautiful. Peaceful. Gentle. Amazing. Iron and Wine have the most perfect melodies and their songs always capture me.

  • this reminds me of The Old Man and the Sea

  • this song is so soft! i love it i feel so... at home

  • Clay Micallef.

  • this is a good song: high or not

  • Eargasmic.

  • 23 people are angry at the quality... -.-

I think it makes the song more unique!

  • Also, to add to the lyrical interpretation; just saying how misleading, mysterious, difficult, and beautiful love can be. This was the first song I learned to play on guitar. Love the finger picking, simple and sounds amazing. :)

  • I love this song...It's so peaceful, the lyrics clearly exemplify the way love really is...I took the whole basis of lyrics as a sort of feeling that you would get talking to your past lover, after your whole relationship fell apart, and you both really care for each other and wish you could go back to the time where you were together and happy...a sort of "I don't know what to say...I'm so sorry, for everything. I wish we could go back to then..." Anyways...Iron & Wine is an amazing artist.

  • I love Iron & Wine.. everytime I listen to them the whole world seems to calm down. (:

  • 2:39 Samuel Beam in his old age.

  • If I had a thousand poptarts I wold make these stupid commercials go away so I could enjoy this beautiful music in peace.

  • this music makes intolerable work seem like fun :)

  • this song is the tits

  • If you like Iron & Wine put J. Tillman into the search box.

  • hey can you put dah lyrics to this by any chance <3 I'd really apprecicate my dance teacher intoroduced meh to this song and its dah song im gonna have to listen to for until my competion

    D:

  • Just got back from the End of the Road Festival in England. Iron and Wine got one of the loudest cheers. Beautiful music, a great set, and a wonderful rapport with the crowd.

  • when he says "we gladly run in circles but the shape we meant to make is gone", what does he mean? What shape are they meant to make?

  • @musicismylife442 I take it to mean the following: When one is in love, it is an end and not a means.

  • @Lovetricity a means to an end by joy division ahhahaha

  • I wish they played this on the radio, instead of Eminem.

  • @ohmankelso fuck you .eminem is the shit too

  • how amazing these songs from Samuel.psssssssssssssst...

  • i love this, its so chill

  • best song ever

  • I jam this one on the guitar! but I cannot sing like him unfortunately. but I still try :D

  • it is tough, isnt it? that sam can do it well.

  • @krilla yeah dude, but the more I play it the more it falls in place. I know like 8 of his songs. and I basically just gotta play and play and play and then one day it just clicks. Normally takes me about 3 days of good hard playing to be able to play it front to back with singing.

  • My absolute favorite song by Iron & Wine. Sam Beam makes beautiful music.

  • sorry mate but we all can get jacked up on acid @drnitroh changes a bit but the beauty remains and intensifies do0nt turn your back on ethogens, you have prespectives of life that are still black and white, acid will ethogens will add some color

  • Hey sam, your simple acoustic songs are very, very appreciated. I love music, in all different styles, and I will always find room to squeeze you in every now and again, in fact, I think it is a need!

  • the thing that I love about Sam Beam is that his music is powerful in its simplicity... it doesn't need a bunch of gimmicks to hook you, it just grabs your soul.

  • the perfect words to describe it.

  • What a stupid comment man.

  • @GeGeMus12 mate, this song dosn't need anything, i don't think it's intended for it to be a hard style techno. Sorry we can't get jacked up on acid like some of us.

  • This song is like more of a realization of reality, that life is pain, harsh and its real

  • @Retardedcorporations it may be for you...but I do not think it is your place to assume the only translation.

  • this song brings me sorrow and joy at the same time. no song has ever done that...

  • wow this is really good.

  • I have this cd and I play it in a craft store I work in. The customers totally zone out when they come in off the busy street. We are all one for a moment, looking at beautiful handmade art and feeling the vibe together. One girl stopped at the door on her way out and came back to ask what was playing, I pointed to the cd case on the desk and she said "Makes me not want to leave, I could just live here".

  • That's awesome.

  • @Whoozinga

    That's heady man.

  • @Whoozinga Hey! My sweetheart just introduced me t this artist all the way from Bristol UK, where she studies. I became instantly in awe of it. Can you please recommend me their best CD, their signature and most classic material, so I start my collection in a high note? Thx & Cheers!

  • @eleot His three LP's are all amazing and worth getting, each one with a slightly different sound. Once you've listened to those, there's also the Iron & Wine and Calexico album 'In The Reins' which is also beautiful.

  • @Whoozinga I heard Iron & Wine in a supermarket not so long ago, I assumed one of the employees got control of the PA system, pretty much played all of 'Our Endless Numbered Days'. I stayed for the whole thing.

  • @Whoozinga That's such an awesome story ^_^ It made me smile.

  • @Whoozinga I put my daughter to sleep almost every night when I play/sing this song to her over my guitar.

  • @clutchcrippler Your comment made me really happy. Thank you.

  • @Whoozinga What a beautiful comment. =)

  • @Whoozinga This is my first time hearing the song and it made me zone out too

  • @Whoozinga

In the pub it is he same bro

  • @Whoozinga I can agree with that. Put's you at ease.

  • @Whoozinga Lol, where is this store I wanna go in.

  • @MystriusBurdedDrumma LOL Hamilton Ontario! It's a co-op craft store called Textures!

  • @Whoozinga how amazing must it be to work in a craft store and have such a wonderful band play whilst you distract the customers with beauty would be awesome...this band is sooo amazing its unbeleivable all i listen too at the moment..

  • @vintagesid80 They really are awesome! My kids are 4 and 6 and they'll just flop on the floor and colour and look at books together without fighting when I play these guys! And yes, I don't work at that store any more - I got too busy with family stuff, but what a fun time it was. It was a cool feeling to know people were loving the music that day and not tuning it out while they shopped. I like driving to this band's music too.

  • @Whoozinga awww yeah i dont drive so its more of a zone out daydream and stroll haha yeah i love discovering bands like this and the excitement you get its mighty fine indeed.

  • @Whoozinga Ok now i'm definitely gonna get that album :P

  • @Whoozinga Cant remember how many times i gave a thumb up to your coment... each time i see this video, and thats not a bit, btw! ;D

  • @MateoIsAGull Why?

  • @Whoozinga That's inspirational : )

  • @Whoozinga that was me. where do u work??

  • @Whoozinga his music does create a sort of zen like feeling doesn't it, and it is always so interesting to decifer(at times) what his lyrics actually mean. great musician. only a little sad that i just rediscovered him 2 days ago.

  • @Whoozinga Beautiful.

  • i like the video...think it fits nicely. fersher.

  • love the music...but, this is the most boring music video EVER!!!!!

  • really like this song, very relaxing to listen to.

Very easy song to learn on the guitar too, love playing this song :)

  • Aye, chords or tabs?

  • This was the first song I heard from him, and it's my favorite :D

Since I learned it, I can't stop playing it on guitar.

    Afdjdg :)

  • PURE AWESOMENESS

  • THE Most Relaxing Music Ever,

    So soft and melodic, it

    puts me to sleep.

'Tis like the rain on the tin roof

    of a house. Calm,steady,penetrating,lovely, unique.

  • Great song! Beam is an amazing bearded song writer. And good singer. And guitar player. And overall person. AWESOME!

  • i love their songs..........they are so they so relaxing and they put me off to sleep

  • i think that could be the favourite music of god :)

Their songs are all so lovely..

Why couldn't everybody listen to that kind of music so that everybody would be peaceful.

    Great music 5 *

  • i totally agree!

i like all kind of music but lo-fi and indie are mi favorites.. are so peaceful!

  • i mean MY favorites.. haha im a native spanish speaker.. whatever

  • im sorry but you said "their" implying more then one. Its only one genius Samuel Beam. He is Iron And wine

and from what i hear god does listen to this : )

  • @dillarooke his not their

  • @dillarooke cause peace is a lie

  • let me guess. Republican?

  • @conchorus no 16 year old bored kid

but think about it, its true no matter what unless humans are destoryed there wont be peace. people might agree but they will always hates someone

  • @xXSGTP3PP3RSXx way to be downer in a positive song

  • @blondbeast555 dude this is a awesome song like its fucking awesome but its true

  • @xXSGTP3PP3RSXx ehhh ok

  • @xXSGTP3PP3RSXx you act as if you know everything, but apparently you forget that people have the ability to forgive, the ability to love and live in peace. we all feel bad emotions from time to time, but if you really want to see the world full of hatred, you should keep it to yourself. peace is made by whomever has it, you obviously don't.

  • @xKEIZERIN not every man forgives

not every man has the power to forgive

    some things are unforgivable

im not trying to act like anything and i dont want to see the world be filled with hatred

but there will always be someone in the world who wont forgive someones else for their actions

im all for peace but i know that there will never be full world peace and i accept that

this song is great thats the bottom line

  • @xXSGTP3PP3RSXx hahaha, you made my day xD dont take it as a compliment,im not laughing with you, im laughing at you so. peace out brah!

  • @slekkis you know this song is so good that i dont care im gonna leave this were it is and let you do your own thing

    have fun.

  • @xXSGTP3PP3RSXx people that cant argue are the best!

  • @slekkis Can't argue with that lol

  • @xXSGTP3PP3RSXx your comment is a lie..lie!!!!!!!!! lie i say !

  • @dillarooke well, if everybody did the same, it would be boring, wouldnt it be?

  • @Borjagonzalo123 I don't know. Would it?

  • @JimmyPage97 yep

  • @Borjagonzalo123 Asking questions that you already have an answer for

  • Sam Beam (Iron and Wine) doesn't sing about anti christian things. He sings about good things. You should listen to the lyrics instead of shunning anything thats not filled with Jesus or God. Good music can exist without mentioning either. If your son comes home wearing a Megadeth T-shirt and starts listening to heavy metal thats when I would start worrying. Open your mind and learn to appreciate things you may not understand!

  • Comment removed

  • You're very much right mastermatt2006,

except for that thing about metal. like you said "Open your mind and learn to appreciate things you may not understand!"

  • Well I used to be a metal head. But then I realized I didn't like it. I only liked it because all my friends did. So my mind is open because I've experienced that form of music.

  • well good for you but just because you personally don't like it, doesn't mean that it's something bad or something that peoples parent's should "worry" about.

  • I only said the metal thing to make a point. Not trying to start an argument.

  • fair enough

  • Haha.

This has to be a joke because its so stupid. And you cant even spell.

  • yea no way shes for real... funny though

  • ignorant repression, fun stuff

  • loljk?

  • i supposed Jesus had a well groomed hippy beard as apposed to a "gross hippy beard"?

I'd have to agree with Mastermatt2006, there is nothing wrong with this music. It's folk music. Shame on you for judging a book by it's cover.

  • @Wanda4DecentValues Yes, limit your sons view of the world so he grows up to hate you. Good idea :)

  • Listen to the band STUMBLE INN to hear good newer folk music!!!

    thanks!!

  • lovelovelovelovelovelovelovelovelovelovelovelovelovelovelovelovelovelabsolutelylove :D

  • ahh this is why i love this band.

    (hooray for the new album!)

  • best band ever...i cry everytime i hear a song

  • sufjan stevens anyone?

  • most definetly :)

  • Sam Beam was making music in this style before sufjan,

  • There were many before Beam (Simon, Dylan, Guthrie, Cash, Croche, Cat Stevens, etc.). Many will come after both Beam and Sufjan. It's really about the music. All of the above would say the same.

  • I love this song but jesus i get tired of the music video. That expanding and contracting hole thing gets waaay repetative.

  • Lol, damn yes.

  • iron and wine beats the moldy peaches by a thousand

  • two totally different styles

  • and what would this accomplish?

  • i love these whispered lyrics and deep emotions <3
