The snorkel comes off of the front of the airbox and routes into the front fender.

what does this do exactly? is it an audible difference from the outside?

It's mostly an audible difference on the inside. This is with the stock paper air filter, which is much louder than the K&N drop-in filter I have now. Both provide a nice throaty tone on acceleration though.
