Hard to believe this song would've been a slow ballad had it been up to Martin Gore. It was Alan Wilder who came up with the idea of speeding this song up and created the upbeat tempo sound for the song.

I was just telling someone of Alan Wilder's invaluable contributions. The minute he stepped in as the 4th member, things got richer. And with Violator, he and Flood, were the ones tweaking these songs, like Enjoy the Silence, to give them that edgy and unique flavor. His absence is so obvious! They were a great team!

Depeche Mode released this song back in 1990, years before Lacuna Coil came into existence, for those who don't know. This song has been covered by many bands over the years, including HIM, Tori Amos, Keane, Lacuna Coil, Breaking Benjamin, and others. Been listening to DM for the past 25 years and this is one of their greatest songs!
