I think then that whoever worked on the MGS4 database (which has a few plot holes and errors in it) misinterpreted it.

(Incase you have not figured it out, Naked Snake is Big Boss in early years). He is refered to as John and Jack throughout the game, But we do know that Solid Snakes name is David.

John Doe is used by the U.S. Authorities (not exclusively the FBI) including lowly coroners to refer to a person whose identity (name at least) is a mystery.

Wrong sir, Big Boss's real name is Jack, he OBVIOUSLY lied to Ocelote, and OBVIOUSLY Ocelote lied back, and OBVIOUSLY they both used a name close to their real names.
If you remember, The Boss kept calling him Jack, and Snake had to ask him to use his code name not his real name, and why the hell would the Major in a private mission briefing session call him Jack then ? My brother's name is JACK and he hates the name John. So he doesn't like to be called John. But some people who have the name John like to be called Jack. Oh SHIT! Really? Sorry dude, it showed up on my Gmail so I figured... yeah. I still think his name is John. Since he had almost no reason to lie. A name as common as either would be impossible to track down in the states without a last name. Also, kenny didn't say that Solid Snake was Big Boss, he said that someone ELSE did when they didn't, which makes even LESS sense when you think about it. Sorry again for the misunderstanding.

His name is Adamska but not Shalashaska. That was a nickname given to him by Mujihadin guerillas because they were afraid of him. I doubt that would make it his real last name, and those events, I'm assuming, haven't transpired yet. Since he didn't even have the Revolver 'marquee' yet.

But what's important is what you said about it - and that is true. Revolver said HIS real first name so why couldn't (or wouldn't) John reveal his. Especially since we've established, theres no danger in it. + They were becoming friends by that point, and oddly enough they were working for the same organization. It's clear what his name is, but if others want to fight about it, they can bitch all they want.

Well we are not actully to sure about Naked Snakes real name, on the NES and MSX System it never stated his name that i know of. (Incase you have not figured it out, Naked Snake is Big Boss in early years). He is refered to as John and Jack throughout the game, But we do know that Solid Snakes name is David.

Yeah but the American nickname for John is Jack, so we can see that whenever he says his name is John, For example to Ocelot in the end of the game. He is actually hinting to his name being Jack. Plus Solid Snake's name has nothing to do with it.

he was referred as john by ocelot in MGS3 because when he asked his name he said john Doe which is what the FBI and other things use to name people who do not know their names and have no record in the database.

Naked snake's name is Jack. notice only his friends call him that. he gave Ocelot the name John, because its a generic name used for people who's names are unknown.(John Doe/Jane Doe). Liquid's name is not Gustavo, it has never been revealed yet. However "Gustava" is Frank Jeager's lover which he kills in MG2 Solid snake. Snake gets close with and fights together with Gustava, but Gustava dies at the hands of Frank Jeager. Later you find out that Frank and Gustava were lovers.

umm maxpower, your claims are skewed.. Gray fox was a child and not even part of fox, or foxhound when Naked Snake completed the Snake Eater mission. And Gray Fox's name is "Frank Jeager", not "Jack Jeager". Big Boss finds Frank as a child soldier in Mozambique, and later fights and recruits a teenage Frank Jeager(Null) to foxhound in 1971.
