  • Hi Danny,

i also have tried some many times its gud but i just wanted to know, when i am putting the formula of PMT to calculate monthly payment its coming negative ( amount is exact) .Why don't know? can you please help me out.

  • @mona12393

The result of the PMT Function represents an "Outflow" in accounting terms. That is, you monthly payment comes out of (Outflows) from your checking account, etc.

If you wish to see the result as a "positive" number, do either of these:

    1) Insert a - after the = sign amd before PMT (=-PMT()

    2) When you refer to the cell of the 3rd argument PV, put a negative sign in front - e.g = -A3

  • Danny: I just wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed your Excel tutorials. They are clear, concise, and very informative. As an instructor I appreciate how difficult it is to explain complex subjects. You have a real gift for teaching. You make everything - even complex Excel features - easy to understand. You truly do rock! Doug

  • @sddentdoc

Thank you for your very generous words about my teaching skills. I love to teach and I love it even more when my students get an "A-ha / now I understand it" moment.

I put a lot of work into preparing my lessons so that I can make the concept that I teach as clear and simple as possible, Thank you for recognizing this.

  • GREAT ! thanks so much, everybody showing the "seek answer" in the "what-if" finally someone showed the other option.

  • @propnash

I have created a new video to show you how to fix the result of your formula. Go to my latest YouTube Video - Use Goal Seek to Find Formula Error - to see this,

I used Goal Seek to isolate the problem - you need to correct the FORMATTING for your Interest rate - in your spreadsheet, the rate was formatted to be 800% rather than 8%

Thank you for seeking my help. I am glad that I was able to find the answer for you.

  • @gunzblazin108

I am so pleased that I was able to save you hours performing this analysis.

I know what you mean - for years, I struggled to understand this concept. Most of the "explanations" that I came across left me more confused than when I started.

    Thank you for your feedback,

  • you don't need to remove the mouse click sounds. they are actually quite good. you do have to bring the volume levels of your voice up in proportion to other sounds. that's why i recommended learning a bit about audio compression and mastering. there are no professional recordings which were not processed using a compressor, but it's a good practice even for DIY projects. it would help bring presence to your voice. the video is otherwise informative, and i too learned something.

  • @zenshinify

Thanks - I now use a highlighter that points to the cell when I click inside. This seems to work well for me and for my audience.

  • your mouse clicks are louder than your voice. i can't watch this. look up what an audio compressor does, then use it.

  • @zenshinify

    Thank you -

I have removed the mouse click sounds from my software recording package - this is no longer a problem

  • Excellent video. Very straight-forward. I would only recommend on toning down or removing th clicking sound as it is very distracting. Thanks for the tutorial, though.
