The best thing of this game in my opinion, is getting the traffic to run smoothly. This game is one of my favorites of all time. Too bad it isn't fully compatible with Windows 7.
@JaredAugerot what do you mean it isnt fully compatible with Windows 7? i have a Win7 and im playing SC4 without any problems, or have i just not encountered any yet?
@AdrianNinjaBoii Yeah, I have heard of a few people who have that same story. But for most windows 7 users it will work for about an hour then it will crash. Maybe it's a hardware thing. Do you have old hardware? I know that that is the reason it wont work with my computer with Virtual XP running.
@AdrianNinjaBoii I think it is more compatable with certain types of video cards or some other hardware. On mine it crashes. What video card and processor do you have?
@JaredAugerot I have no idea. the video card is the same one it came with when i purshased it. i dont even have a good processor. its an intel core i3. my game lags very little. usually when i build large cities but other then that, the game runs smoothly.
sunken highways are good for tight urban areas, and I have a question, why didn't you just make a real tunnel with an entrance and exit? It's much easier.
Good stuff, but is that avenue over highway overpass fully functional? The cars just seem to disappear on them. I had the same problem with mine, and i was watching this to see if they can work.
1:55 I dont have ground highway overpass onramp I think either mine is not there replaced by nam 29 or i have to tab through to get it somehow. I think mine have copies of 2 cloverleafs which is a waste yet not ground highway overpass onramps for either roads or avenues.
Wow, I realize now that I could've saved a lot more money by using the street piece when I did this in my city. I used the level terrain button instead :\
Those avenue interchanges come standard to SimCity4 with either the "Rush Hour" expansion or the "Deluxe Edition" version of the game. When you're playing in city-mode, click on "transportation tools," then on "Build Highways & Ramps," then on "Ground Highway Overpass Onramp," and cycle through the different types of ramps by pushing "Tab," pushing twice to get the ramps that I have in this video, the ground level highways with the avenue overpasses.
This video shows how I first started doing my sunken highways, which is a little different from what is seen in my "Super Highways" video. In this video there are two depth levels to notice. Using the highway slope, "down in two" is the tunnel and highways depth, and "down in one" is the avenue crossing depth. What I do different now is I build the highway depth to only "down in one," so the highways stay flat while going under the avenue bridges.
When you use the road and plop them one piece at a time to sculpt the terrain, why are they looking like bits of roads? That is to say that when I try it myself in my game they come out as a parking lot piece instead of a road. I guess it doesn't really matter whether their a bit of street or a bit of a parking lot, but I'm just curious if it's something special you have installed or something "un-special" that I have as a plugin somewhere. Thanks,
This video shows how to build sunken highways without downloads, everything standard to SimCity 4 (with the "Deluxe Edition" version or with the "RushHour" expansion).
I've changed how I build these highways. I will repost an updated version of this video in the future. For now, you can see the new way I do these highways by watching my "Super Highways" video.
Great video! I love how it cuts to some shots of a sunken highway in your real city. This is a very useful tutorial. I have now even used this technique to put a highway under my airport. Thank you!
That is awesome. I would never have figured that out on my own.

Great video. I'll try this out next time I play.
Though I do kind of wish SC4 allowed more "blocky" terrain adjustment ala SC2K

Is that the exact same way you made your highways in your SimCity 4 Super Highways Video? same spaces in between each interchange and everything?

Thanks for the question.
In SimCity 4 without mods, when you plop 1x1 road or street piece, they look like they do in the video.
You must have a mod installed that turns them into parking lot pieces. That sounds cool. There is no use for the 1x1 road pieces.
