Does Lee deserve credit for being a coward ? I don't think so.

Lee not only had slaves, he tortured the slave girls, and sold the babies. Dr. Callahan knows his stuff. My opinion is that it STILL has taken over 150 years and the American 'mind set' is still not as advanced as Ben Franklin % The other founding Fathers ALMOST were. Someone should work on their Ph. D thesis to chronicle the furious debates which occur weeks before Jefferson penned the Declaration of Independence from England

your observations concerning the final days of the conflict are accurate as is your argument that lee in probably did spare lives in his decision not to encourage guerilla war. but consider what number of lives would have been spared had lee accepted the unions offer of command at the start. very likey the war wouldnt have dragged on had the north had him instead of suffering the of incompentent generals. im not trying to lay blame on lee, just proposing a hypothesis had he decided differently.
