This made me cry so hard! I loved this filly so much! She is such an inspiration to me and everything that I am. Her Ruffian and Rachel are the ones that have kept me strong and up and going. I can't thank this filly enough for what she's shown me. RIP Baby girl! I will miss you forever!

Eight Belles was my derby pick. As soon as I found out a filly was running for the roses I knew she leave her mark. Never did I think she would break down. I was cheering so hard. I was shocked when they said she was put down. Now she can run with Ruffian and all the other greats. RIP sweet girl we will remember you

I was so sad when this happened. Beautiful tribute. I remember watching her sire, Unbridled Song race, and when I saw that his daughter was running the derby, I was so excited, and to have to end like this was awful, just awful. What music did you use? It fits her perfectly.

I remember watching this derby; I had a bunch of friends over, and we were all watching it and celebrating the win, and then we looked at the screen, heard eight belles' name, and everything just went quiet; we were all crying. It was horrible.

I know, it was so terrible. Everybody watching the derby on tv, knew her condition before the people actually in the stands. At my house, everyone stopped to watch the race, and then go back to our activities, and then we saw a horse was down. When we heard "compound fractures" we knew nothing could be done.

I miss eight bells so much...we actually almost lost one of our horses last night...Sophie is a retired race horse...she fell through the ice in the creek and we couldnt get her up...after an hour sh finally got up...only with marks on her face and cutes on her legs..shes been through alot being 31 years old.

It made me cry when she went down...just to see a sweet horse like her just fall when she was in such pain is horrible...RIP girl!

Alright, Big Brown was supposed to win the Belmont, he was going to be the next Triple Crown winner... if we use your logic, all his accomplishments don't count because he failed to succeed. Eight Belles was a great racehorse and after watching what happened to her that day, I believed that making this tribute was the right thing to do.

thaughts r with all the horses that die on the track. Tragic. Breeders should get some since on the blood lines. In Eight Belles records show the same sire in both parties. sick....But, seems to me they dont care.

They don't inbreed horses on purpose, the horses are bred so much and all thoroughbreds came from the same arabians, it is impossible not to inbreed them to keep them pure. If you have a purebred dog, somewhere in it's lines it is inbred, I guarantee it.
