I felt this at Cupertino!! I was watching my high school's choir concert.
I THOUGHT it was just a large truck passing by BUT....
I saw the rows of chairs in front of me, and the lighting fixture above me SWAY. It startled EVERYONE in the the auditorium, including the girls performing, but NO ONE RAN OUT.
i felt this 35 miles away in mountain view when i used to live there.. not i live like 20 miles from this faultline.. i hope its not very active.. the whole japan thing kinda puts bad thoughts in ur mind as fart as quakes go.. i have a feeling this one by almaden never really shakes hard but the big California quake is expected.. not to sound rude but im glad California dosnt fuck around with nuclear reactors like japan does
I was doing my science project, about cells, when the ground started shaking, and I was like " What the" I threw my project wet with paint across my room and ran out like crazy. Luckily nothing happened, the next morning you would hear a short conversation about the earthquake. Just telling my perspective when this happened to San Jose
whoooaaa! i member this day! ; i was at the 94.9 boo bomb concert && gettin texts from all my friends askin if i was all right good thing tha HP Pavillion is earthquake proof!
I remember watching the Lakers-Rockets game while eating. When it started I stood for 3 sec deciding whether to eat or run out, so I ran out while eating. By the time I reached the door it stopped. I lived in Blossom Hill in South San Jose at the time.
i remember this. our computer was rattling our TV was shaking. it was deep! and long.the next day there was another one mag 4.5 that was harder than the first one.
you must all live in California. NAh.....i live in Melbourne, Australia- we get atlest one small quake everyday and a 6.0 about every 30 years in South Eastern Victoria. Ones over due- WAY OVER DUE!(try atleast since settlement in this country which was in the mid 1700's) felt a few in March. They were 4.6 and the second one (12 days later) was 4.5 and some say 4.6 but you get the point- we don't panick from quakes here- were all sorta used to them! BTW- the second quake wasn't an aftershock!
You're crazy, I was on the second floor of a building off alum rock and white and I thought the building was going to collapse. This was a big one, at least in the alum rock area. There was one 2 nights ago but it was real small
i remeber dat day i was carving my pumkin on my table and i set the knife down then my chandelire started to shake and my carving knife flew across da room!!!! i was so scared! i ran to my mom on the other side of da house ,and i live in a mobile home so it shook pretty bad, and we both ran to run outside but by da time we got to da door it stoped. my neice was in da car wit my sis and wen they were coming ova they saw a car flip ova into da air!!!! it was scary
heheh Woahh. i was making Treats for my class the day before halloween which indeed was the day of the earthquakee. and my mom almost fainted and everyone Including my neighbors were terrified&scared. i was pretty shocked too.
To quote amgv8400 "Strongest one since the 1989"...Couldn't agree more. We've had a couple small ones that were felt but this one rocked for quite a long time, it actually shook me up pretty good, not as violent as the 89 but certainly longer. Standing in my doorway thinking "gee is this thing going to end soon" lol.
haha this happened when i just started playing wow and i was like level 8. i was doing some halloween event thing that had to do with the jack o lantern guy and when he started burning the places in goldshire and it was around 8 my house started shaking and i freaked out cause i thought someone jumped on my back n chair.
Typically yes, the reason being that (at least commonly in CA) is that roofing tiles can come off and hit you. Not to mention the building itself collapsing. Inside a store like this, fixtures and merchandise can fly at you. Immediately fleeing out the door is a hard impulse to fight.
it shook hardest in san jose because that is were the epicenter was, in the east foothills. and that store is most likely on the east side, you can totally tell. That is how they all look. San Jose is always gonna have quakes like this it has Calaveras/Hayward Faults in the East and the San Andreas to the west. but ya san jose shook kinda hard.
During the 1906 quake, people were not able to stand up for almost 30 seconds. Everywhere from Santa Rosa all the way down to Gilroy and beyond. The event you guys are talking about is what Californians call a 'tremor' and when the BIG one hits you won't have any power, or internet for weeks, or even months...
I was intoxicated and watching half baked with my friend brian and then it all just started shaking and i didnt know what to do because i was in shock. pretty humbling...
I was in my home, the first earthquake I've felt in my life...the walls were shaking, the whole house seemed to sway side to side, the windows were vibrating a lot, and the chandelier was swinging, this earthquake only lasted like six or seven seconds though, we aren't top far from alum rock, but we definitely felt it...
I had a camera with me but didn't record cause I just wanted to get the hell out. That guy is epic for running to his kid first when he was nearest to the door.
I also has my camera with me, and I did record the shaking and put it on my site. It's too bad I was moving my camera so much, it's hard to tell it's shaking.
I was just pumped full of adrenaline because this was only my 2nd earthquake.
How was he not covering her? He grabbed her and held her as close to him as he possibly could. Would you not have done the same?
And I know running out the door isn't smart during a quake, but you gotta admit a convenience store is a tough place to be during one. All those loose objects tumbling about, it's as dangerous inside as it is out.
no worries... are you here in the bay area? i'm up in san francisco and was at target when it happened in the cookware. spatulas were being tossed around...
I'm a few miles from the epicenter. Def a good one, lasted a good amount of time. Reminds me of the 89 quake. Now that was pretty much the most insane thing I've ever witnessed.
I miss Cali =(

A 5.4 tremor just shook the bay area about a week and two days ago, that could possibly be another sign of the big one coming soon.
