  • @leedumett444 and how is frankie yale cool?!

  • I thought the Movie was great, it showed that pre the civil war gangs ruled a major part of New York. And as today and the Golden age of the gangs groups of thugs ran many crimes syndicates and did political favors to corruptible politicians.

  • @rainzoro you're right about the movie is not even close to what the book is Herbert Asbury did and amazing job

  • FRANKIE YALE WAS A COOL BROOKLYN BOOTLEGGER ALSO A MEMBER OF THE 5 POINTS GANG AND AL CAPONES MENTOR

  • I thought this was about the five points gangs and it's about early XX century when the five points was long gone!

  • yea i thought the movie was pretty lame too, but the actor Daniel Day Lewis was really something.

it's pretty strange that everybody say that Martin Scorsese is a master, and yet i never got really impressed by any of his movies

  • Is the movie "The gangs of New York" about this same thing?

  • Yes it is but the movies crap compared to the book.

  • EAstman GanG waz aRch-rIVal of 5 Points Gang, you no dat? If yu r skoller on 5 points gang, you tell me wenn an ware doze 2 gangz had a famis 5-ours gunfite.

  • ilove, They're both Becker, at 45:00-48:00 seconds and 1:30 - 1:32 seconds. Yesterday was the day Rosenthal was killed, in 1912. Becker's birthday is in July but not 15th.

  • then what day is it in july ? and i hear a lot of people say that Beaker was born on the 15th of july so what day is it ? and what year was he born 1869 right ? .

  • If you are really into this, you must find and read the book "Against The Evidence" by Andy Logan. Out of print but you can probably order it (as I did), unless you already believe that Becker was a "killer cop". Because that book makes a good case that he was indeed framed. Rosenthal was killed 2:00 a.m. on July 16, 1912. (96 years ago today.) Becker's b'day was July 26, 1870, according to "Against The Evidence". He was executed at Sing Sing on July 30, 1915.

  • oh ok thanks i fist found out about Beaker in a book that i checked out at my school its called Blood leaders and bad men and he is on page 65 and will try to look for the book you just tolled me about ok so thank you that information was so helpful thanks .

  • The book you read probably did not say that Becker's first conviction for the Rosenthal murder was reversed on appeal. Many books leave that out. The case against him in the second trial really was not any more solid than in the first, but he was guilty again thanks to the newspapers working with the district attorney's office.

  • oh ok and i know he was sent to sing sing on july 30th 1915 but in 1929 wasent Becker found inessent of the Killing it sead that in the book i ceacked out ? .

  • Maybe you're thinking of a book titled "Sacrified", published in 1927, written by Henry H. Klein, which made the case for Becker's being innocent and framed. Klein was a newspaper reporter at the time of Becker's two trials (1912 and 1914) and he later worked in the city government, where he was able to find out that some witnesses against Becker had been put on the city payroll and kept there throughout. There are six books dealing with this case. I will tell you their names next time.

  • oh ok and one more thing do they eney movies our TV shows out thare about BEcker ? .

  • I'm not aware of any movies. I've heard of some TV shows but they were about crime in general and gave only a few minutes to the Becker case, and they generally went along with the notion that he was guilty. Books:

    1. Sacrificed, 1927, by Henry H. Klein.

    2. One Night In July, 1961, Jonathan Root.

    3. Against The Evidence, 1970, Andy Logan.

    4. Satan's Circus, 2007, Mike Dash.

    5. The Execution of Lt. Becker, also very recent and don't know author name.

    6. The Starker, due out this fall.

  • ok i look for those shows and did Becker KIll eneyone else besides rosenhal ? .

  • He killed (shot) someone in the line of duty he thought was a burglar, while chasing the real burglar. Read "Against The Evidence" and you will no longer think that he killed Rosenthal.

  • why ? .

  • wel yes it iz probly BEcker was crukkid, like so meny pleese in the big sitty in that ara. But yu rede the book n u will thinc BEcker got a Frame-Up job on Rosenhil merdur charj.

  • oh ok .

  • oh and Becker was born to A German AMERICAN Famaily right ? and so do you know the names of Beckers Mom And Dad OUr nOt ? .

  • ok i wont thanks .

  • in The Monk Eastman gang was there a guy named Charlie Jack Zeag (1888) - (1912) ? .

  • I thinc you thinc of Big Jack Zelig who waz in EAstman gang an take over as boss wenn EAstman go to prizin in '04. And u have him in your video here 2 time, one at 41-44 sekonds an lass of all at 1:50 - 1:55 sekonds. I tol u start reedin, now wat goin on?

U find book u lyke maybe u StarT reedin, huh? STRanjer things Hav happen, rite?

  • this would be the one where a few random gophers showed up and started shooting at both sides.

  • gophers wer dare too? shootin random at both side? gunfite went on for 5 owers iz wat i red.

  • Yes the Gophers had overheard the shooting and decided to join in on the fun if I am correct, Monk was arrested under his alias William Delaney ( oen of his many) and was released. Shortly after this Monk Eastman and Paul Kelly fought each other in a boxing match with no winner. Paul Kelly representing the fiver pointers and Monk Eastman the Eastman gang. The above battle was also at the time the single largest gang fighting to involved firearms.

  • But I read somewhere (haven't read much) that Monk went to jail for 10 years about a year after Rivington St. Rivington battle was like the last straw for the city and they cracked down hard; Monk went to jail for 10 years, right? And then joined the Army and went to World War One. Got murdered on 14th St about a year after he came home as a war hero, right? And Kelly became a union big shot after his time in the gangs.

  • Right Monk was paroled and given his citizenship again, when he got back on out he tried to rebuild his gang but couldnt, went solo for awhile in the very thin drug trade and was later killed by the police. Rivington marked a BIG turning point forthe politicians who protected the gangs.

  • If you read this stuff, you should try "Against The Evidence" (published 1970), which deals a little bit with the gangs but mainly with the Becker-Rosenthal murder case, in which the hired killers were members of the Zelig Gang (or the Lenox Ave Gang, depending on what you read), which was the new Eastman Gang. It's out of print but you can probably order it.

  • haha I just saw that the other day, That was the guy who was exposing everything if I remember, the gambler? I Think I may go back to the book store then.

  • Exposing, well, yes. He was only exposing what everyone knew was there; people knew that the city had lots of gambling joints and knew that cops took payoffs. The writer of this book makes a pretty convincing case that Lt. Becker, though taking payoffs like most cops, was framed on the murder charge.

  • yeah, he was murdered by a fed with a drinking problem i heared, wasnt it owney madden who later traced down the fed and blinded him with a glass in a bar before killing him.

  • Are you talking about Becker? Becker killed by a fed with a drinking problem? Or someone else?

  • no monk was killed by a corrupt agent, who was drinking one night and saw monk, he followed monk and killed in on 14 st subway. im sure the agent also done time, but like 2 or 3 years, only, and later in the 30's owney madden killed the agent when he accidently came across him in a bar one night.

  • Becker was exaqued in the chiar on july 30 1915 not killed by a drunk youre talking about Monk eastman who was killed by a drunk walking out of a bar & fallowing him & he killed him in december 1920 .

  • and his wife was a special Ed teacher that Teachd Kids With Autism and i found that out on wikepdeia .

  • thay new about autism in that ara?

  • yes they did for a fact Beckers wife Would grade there papers and he showed a little in-tress in the after hours drinks with some of his friends who ware also in the police force however later Beckers only son Howerd P Becker 1899 - 1960 later Became a teacher in Wisconsin .

  • oh and go watch my video all about Becker please ? .

  • Who is the man wearing the derby at 45-48 seconds? He looks familiar. Also, the man shown at 1:30 - 1:32 seconds.

  • in 45-48 seconds thats killler cop CHarles BEcker and yesterday was his brithday on july 15th and in 30-32 seconds that is Herman Rosenthal a Manhaten Gambaler in THe 5 POints gang and CHarles BEcker killled him on june 19th 1914 .
