  • Fantastic beat and lyrics. "You dont say good luck, you say don't give up". Well done as usual.

  • The "thumbs up" button looks like a turd.

  • This is my "finals week" theme song.

  • came here caause of rhcpfreaklol

  • I dont understand the video

  • wow this song so much inspirating

  • So the key to survival is disarming your comrad and kissing ass? Hmmmm

  • how the fuck do you dislike this?

  • @natalieeereed...The Roots Keep it real... You are talking pure Shite!!

  • Theres something in your eyes....The Fire

  • Dont give up, 1 love strong fire.

    This song makes me high

  • U say Dont give up...Gotta love the Roots

  • Love this fucking song!!!

  • I love real rap.......says a white girl. I can't stand Lil Wayne and all those other FAKE artists that sell music to wannabe white america. Everytime I think bout jeezy or wayne or whoever makes me think of Jersey Shore kids. Kids that have everything handed to them and never had a struggle a day in there life. Besides what girl to bang or what drink to have in hand. Life is about passion, struggle and love. The Roots always put it in their songs. Thanks for being REAL.

  • @900incubus Life is always greener. You think The Roots dont spend most of their time thinking about what chick to bang next or what drink they want their ho to get them. Wake up, its a business designed to make money as are all good businesses. You are on a strategy board in some corporate room in Hollywood under the heading, people who like to keep it real. KEEP KEEPING IT REAL WHITE GIRL. PLAY THAT FUNKY MUSIC

  • @natalieeereed wtf lmao. really. lmao. thanks for making me laugh today. you did well.

  • @900incubus Thats the best thing a "white girl" has said on youtube, ;P

  • @900incubus Amen

  • @900incubus I like this comment alot.

  • 10/10 song 10/10 video

  • One of my favourite songs of all time andalways will be, pure class. The video has made me want to read The Long Walk by Stephen King too.

  • Damn, I'm a metalhead through and through.. don't know how I missed this, This is fucking music.

  • Thumbs up if you've watched it again

  • So what was in the white box?

  • @av399 The freedom...The fire inside you, the will to survive!!

Read to the description, it says "The last survivor of the march receives a mysterious White Box which holds the key to survival." The key to survival is your will, it's you, you have to fight for your freedom...It isn't a key, or money, or anything else in the world!

  • Great song but I really don't get the video.. but it look good!

  • thumbs up if fight night champion brought you here

  • there's something terribly depressing about the message the music video has, but the song is so motherfucking awesome that i loop it anyway.

  • HOW CAN U DISLIKE THIS..?????

  • HOW CAN U DISLIKE THIS..?????

  • NICE. SOLD BUY IT>

  • I wish they had the Orchestral Remix... I liked that version!!! D=

  • Even Chuck Norris was amazed by this song...

  • Fuck you people who came here because of Fight Night Champion. A ton of us have been here long before you people even knew who The Roots were.

  • @wasifhasanballin

I ton of us know both and like both too...

  • @wasifhasanballin do you realize how stupid you sound? so what people found out about the song by FNC? im glad the game chose dope songs for their soundtrack. it exposes the fans not familiar with the roots to the roots. if anything, embrace them.

  • @wasifhasanballin who doesnt know who the roots are? poor bastards lol

  • @wasifhasanballin What's wrong with that? Never discovered a band cos of a tv programme or ad, video game? Get real and stop acting like an elitist.

  • I liked the video a lot! I love the song. The two do NOT go together well. The feeling that the record gave me is not to be found in the video. I really liked the video, it was intriguing, but it totally distracted me from the song.

  • wow dude, this is my new fav. song

  • I didn't pay their album any attention honestly. Promoted on Jimmy Fallon but I was like eh, I don't really have the time or money to go out and buy an album. If wasn't for Fight Night would probably still haven't paid any attention. Shame on me.

  • waaaah what was in the box!

  • The fire is inside, "The Will to Live"!

  • a lot of fight night ppl lol cant wait til march 1 mofuckaaaa

  • 20 ppl are definetly deaf cause this is amazing

  • This is off of fight night champion

  • finally fell upon some real music!

  • Maybe it's about how the world oppresses us and prevents us from helping our brothers... even forcing us to destroy one another (the cannibalism in the video)... and we'll only gain freedom and respect by fighting and risking it all for one another.

  • WTF American troops with German MP40s

  • Wowo that video was about nothing.

  • @germanbeerboy lool i know wtf, dumb ass directors so over marketing us that they lost touch with there skills!!

  • @germanbeerboy that's what it seems like at first huh, but if you look the deeper, there's a lot of symbolism in there that takes a few times to get (such as the box=the fire). it takes a song in a whole new direction

plus it's a well produced cinematic piece by itself

  • @mrskywalkerr I disagree, the symbolism was linear and force fed. There is beauty in the abstract and form in linearity. And while the production value was top notch the overall feel of the short was awkward and incongruent.

Awesome song, fire the visual director.

  • 20 people were burned,

  • FIGHT NIGHT IS BACK BABY!

  • Excuse me if I'm completely wrong, but is this video about Nazi occupied France?

  • @TheEazyDuzIt95 no, those are not german soldiers

  • great great i didnt know the roots thnx

  • great video, but guy with plaid shirt and indy-glasses ruined the whole fucking video

  • We love this!! The Roots Rock!

  • is this an actual film? if so does anyone happen to know the name of it? Please message me. Thanks

  • @89Ef9civic no. this is the official video. made for this song. damn good film in my opinion. says a whole lot in sucha short time.

  • NOT DEAD AT ALL the game is changing sooo much Love it

  • great song.thats real music, with message. not like rap that is playing in radio, all the time about making money and fucking models. when im listening to song like that i wanna make music and im falling in love with music again.thx the roots 4 songs like that

  • i see myself winning gold at the 2012 olympics for boxing !!!

  • When I listen to The Fire, this is definitely NOT what I see in my head.

  • best fucking song. evar.

  • 19 people are ice cold

  • can someone explain this video to me??

  • one of the best feat. songs ever!

"Music You Deserve To Hear" pce 2 all!

  • i can see power lines in the background AND call of duty sound effects at the end ! nice

  • i can see power lines in the background

  • Great song!! Also check out the similarity with kutti mc's song "amok" (at 40sec). Peace! youtube.com/watch?v=k3WE_cvY-es&feature=related

  • Wow.

  • I don't get the video....:$

    What does it mean?

  • @monkeyfistboy

the father's desire to get his son was the plot. the woman and the two guys shot represent the fallen soldiers and the family. it's the tragedy of life we all understand and are vulnerable to.

that box is the unknown desire that everyone feels. we all want to live and succeed in life. that group was lead by that box by force. if you think about it, we have no choice but to keep going.

the son in the end he sees into the box because he was lucky enough to see it through.

  • @sk8bow Tnkxx man...!

    Nice info...!

  • i see it as in life fighting against other people is pointless cause in the end no one wins anything you just get mad

  • will someone explain this video to me?

  • glad to see some good hip hop. with the crap that comes out in world of hip hop a good hip hop group is hard to come by

  • Sorry....thats not a music video.

  • amazing song... odd video

  • love the amount of random inconsistency in this ;p

  • Wow im impressed by that :O

This song is powerful!! Thats real hiphop !

I've never seen or heard them before and this is one of the best songs i've ever heard. Great Stuff

  • <3 The Roots

  • damn !! 2010 sees Mos Def's Ecstatic dropping, Nas and Damian Marley releasing Distant Relatives, and The Roots bring out How I Got Over!! Hip Hop is still living and breathing

  • @IntellectualMusic There's hope yet. Mos's albums is great and so is Damian and Nas's. Why they don't portray this Hip Hop on the radio or anywhere else is beyond me!

  • Thank The Roots for never selling out.

  • @Revoltingsheeple I just heard this song on a Nike advertisement, isn't that "selling out?"

  • @wooodstockDK I saw that and was disappointed. Mos Def did the same thing with some 4x4 commercial years ago but fortunately both artists released fantastic music following their excursions into the commercial foray. For this, they remain 'unsold'. If their music had permanently changed following the adverts, I'd be saddened, but fortunately this isn't the case! Understand, even if 'history', or 'long time' were massive public hits, I'd still hail both as great artists.

  • @wooodstockDK Just be happy that there still are artists that get rewarded for making good music.

  • @wooodstockDK whats the difference? would u rather hear some bullshit tune like all these local commercials?

FUCK NO. I WANNA HEAR THE ROOTS GOD DAMMIT

  • @wooodstockDK In a sense i suppose but they arent writing music to appeal to everyone and to get famous, theyre writing things they feel. at least it appears that way.

  • @wooodstockDK Nope. If Nike elects to use this for a commercial, then good for the Roots. They make money and earn exposure. They're not writing music for Nike. THAT, would be selling out.

  • This video is beyond amazing!!! wat will be the sad part is that ppl only want commercials and commerialized artists eith their commercialized videos. this video and song needs sum type of recognition.

  • I am a huge fan of rock, but i've got to admite, that you guys are great!

  • its teh fire inside her you say don't let it burn I say the fire the fire let it burn

  • OMG two of my favorites collaborating! YES!!!!

  • the fire burns inside me

  • the dad almost looks like freddy krueger...

  • Hip hop is dead. The roots sold out.

  • roots is a;ways making real music

  • Rik Cordero is trying too hard here to be "shocking". Dear God video was 10 million times better.

  • the dislike button has the size of justin biebers cock!

  • @MRicebeat good one man.

  • He held the box up like it had power plus he had guns. OPPRESSION. WHEN THE GUY SHOWED COURAGE AND TURNED THE GUN ON THEM HE DIED. BUT HIS PEOPLES FOUND OUT THE BOX HAD NO POWER AND HE LET THEM GO. SO... STAND UP AND SACRIFICE AND EVEN DIE IF YOU HAVE TO SOME ONE WILL BE FREE FROM IT. BANG!!!

  • This can be interpreted in so many ways. My take: The captivity represents a lifestyle that has a negative hold on one's life. Negative enough to lose one's past (family, friends, and loved ones). The longer one lives that lifestyle, the more of a toll it takes out of them. Some loved ones however (the father) don't give up the struggle to "rescue" whom they care about. By living this lifestyle, one risks losing everything (including life), and don’t end up gaining (empty box).

  • @TheTani0s i'd like to think of your definition of the real meaning but i think the director made it for something else. but your interpretation is the best in my opinion

  • this is hot

  • go listen to illdelph halflife and things fall apart... the roots are amazing, and black thought is criminally underrated, but they aren't doing it anymore. and that video sucked.

  • wow! this song is more than amazing...

  • thangs to Roots and J Legend Americas black music has to say something again.wake up we r tired of your stupid macho rappers

  • both the video and song have the same message but they dont go well together

  • the roots and john legend that the NEW HOTTEST

  • Holy shit. That was really bad.

What the hell was that even about? Looked like it was made in my back yard.

    Whatever.

  • @allteeth you have an abandoned train and old train tracks in your backyard?^^ sweeet :D

  • what a fuckin shit...!!

  • Doesn't even sound John Legend.

  • its about the Afghan War. The troops are the military and the guys being pushed are the afghanis. the box symbolizes hope, future, freedom, new life. when they find out that the box is empty, they realize the military is running things. from there its all a game. just my point of view

  • The box is the life. In the beginning the soldier says "this is not a game" and shows the box to the people, which means that "life is not a game" . In the end the soldier gives the box (the life) back to the boy whose father never gives up on him.

The whole video means that you should never give up on life, even though sometimes it seems very hard. Life is all you got, and the ones who don't give up, deserve to live free..til eternity.

  • Sick vid and song. I think the vid represents letting go and taking on the real world. The weak and tempted perish while the strong willed survive. The soldiers represent life which is not something you can beat. Thats why the cocky looking kid dies, he challenges life whereas the farmers son realizes that to persevere you must be strong enough to survive and smart enough to know that you cant just challenge life, you gotta play by its rules sometimes. At least thats what I got from it....

  • never heard of them but i luuv this

    this is the real music

  • @mrbartcardi philly underground basically, yeah, fucking good.

  • ok, i accidentally did this and the song sounded cool lol. i was on kanye's blog and he had this song posted. so i clicked it like 3 times by accident and the tabs came up and played the song like 1 or 2 seconds after each other. just try it, it's really cool lol.

  • why cant all music be this good :/

  • love the song and the video express everything

  • damn this song gives me the chills roots are D real deal

  • can't wait for the collab album

  • The Roots never seize to amaze me.

  • WHY THE FUCK DIDN'T THAT BLOKE BE SNEAKY? COULD HAVE SHOT ALL THOSE CUNTS!!! THEY NEED TO HAVE THEIR BOLLUX SAWN OFF!! GREAT TUNE THOUGH AND VID!!

  • That one guy would have won the box if he didnt take the gun, what an idiot......

  • Great song but the video confuses me.

  • hip-hop is not dead!

  • @grobarkata And it never will!

  • @grobarkata Yes Your right! Everytime I here The Roots, Jurassic 5, Beastie Boys or some of the other big Hip Hop Legends... i believe that Hip Hop is still alive!!!!

  • @grobarkata 20 years rule dude

    20 years rule

  • awesome band, awesome song, awesome clip... The Roots are back in a big mutherfunkin way!

  • Tight

  • damn this song is fire

  • Are 15 people idiots or just do not know good music. I grantee if this was sougia boy showing how to do another moronic dance step or Lil Wayne reciting illiterate lyrics there would be 30 million views and over a thousand likes. This is why Hip Hop is suffering.

  • God I love the Roots…without them there would hardly be any hope for Hip-Hop, and I’m really losing hope.

  • great song! great video!

  • Great song! Glad I found this.

  • WHATS IN THE BOX ?!?!?!? i waited all song and i still dont know wats in it!!! >:-(

  • @amullin101 I think it is the fire.

  • I think it is the fire

  • isn't the guy who keeps smiling and gets shot at the end, the guy in matrix revolutions who says at the end, "It's over, the war is over," or something like that.

    just wondering...

  • this video makes as much sense as war itself.

  • @fundingu read the lyrics and it will make sense, its about having a strong will

  • Video is NOT shit, crap or whatever you want to call it, the video supports the message that the song is trying to deliver in such a sick way, honestly do what you got to do to understand it because once you get the video, the song means just that much more.

  • @goorerr why do people keep trying to give an alibi for how bad this is, by saying it has a "deeper meaning". Yeah we get what the song is about and its a great one; and also the video, although unfortunately.

  • Look out for the up-and-coming actor who played the son, representing the 413.

  • this video was great chill the fuck out

  • this video is soooooo.. cheezy! way to fuck up a great song from the Legendary crew

  • Comment removed

  • #DISMYSHIT RIGHT HERE.

  • Finally this cd's getting the exposure it deserves!!!

  • Whats so hard to understand about the video? Its one of two things, gettin out of the poverty stricken streets of Philly or workin his way through the rough music buisness...

  • They prove me that they are still on the top!

    But video is crap!!!

    So enjoy it and listen...

  • @zo0rk i know wtf is that? looks like a junior college drama class student made this shit!

  • that is one powerful fucking video

  • i dnt get it either but i like it cuz im in it

  • I think it might be about overocming adversity, with a little bit of self-determination and morality thrown in. It's not totally apparent. Maybe the father's determination in taking saving his son from the paramilitary group is the source of his own 'fire', and perhaps the dude who's smiling the throughout the clip is proving himself and standing strong as his 'fire'? With that said, there should be a short film which comes out of this; there's gaps in it, like the story of the girl.

  • video doesnt make any sence

  • And still after five time seeing it, I simply don't get it!

  • @Choorz to the people that dont get it

its about survival and the fucking fight to live

  • I DON'T GET THIS.

  • @vansonthefloor to the people that dont get it

its about survival and the fucking fight to live
