Second, keep everything you write. Even if you push it aside for a while, you might work on something else and then you can recycle what you've already written. I'm no big songwriter, obviously, but I will write songs months apart, then realize I should have combined two or three of three of them because they were never meant to be by themselves. Keep it. Expand on it. And remember... there isn't anything wrong with pretty songs.
