This is not animal cruelty.horse love to jump if they have been trained to do it.
If a horse doesn't want to do a jump, they will refuse, or certainly let the rider know they don't want to do it. Also if a horse didn't want to jump, then in a corse, why do they get so excited and race towards the next jump? Yes if they are afraid or stubborn, we will try and get them over the jump to say to them " yes you can jump it, it's not going to bite you!" .
heres the thing. i used to have a pony and she was 25 and acted like a 2year old racehorse. she had arthiritis which doesnt matter and they can still be ridden. also if a horse doesnt want to do something, it wouldnt do it. believe me i know :) xx
It's 8'1" and no he didnt and that was the last time anyone rode him so he didn't get arthritis. He was hurt years before so he had a limp. He was also only 16yo so he was fairly young and died because of nc at the age of29
Un 5 de febrero de 1948, el capitán de Ejército de Chile, Alberto Larraguibel y su caballo “Huasó”, lograron una de las proezas más recordadas de la equitación mundial al saltar 2.47 metros.
Okay people this will not hurt the horse! It's one jump of 8 ft and yea at that point in time it put stress on the horses ligaments at the time of the fence but it's bot like it going to all of a sudden give the horse arthritis magically from one fence! Arthritis happens when years of stress on the ligaments of the horse or if the horse had an injury. They jumped it one time it's not a full course of 8 ft.
i hate people that twine about horses jumping high ! fuck off if you do not like it 1 and let everyone else enjoy the video. without you pests spoiling it thanks bye
yeah these guys would have practiced for years probably that is amazing, but the funny thing is that is started with a bet of whos horse could jump the hieghst
Some horses have a huge jump and a bigger heart. And they'll attempt almost anything for their rider. Many will play thru the pain and perform feats way beyond their scope.
I agree that these high jumps are brutal on the hocks on the way up and entire front leg on the way down. My experience is that they are rarely jumped outside the show ring and do limited shows and classes to preseve the legs.
this jump was clearly hard on the horse, considering in its old age its going to have severe authoritous. as most have noticed he wasn't cantering quietly. the horse probably died a painful death because the autheritious it possibly caused in its back, shoulders, withers, joints, and legs. Jumping can be a good exercise for a horse but this is too over the top for this type of animal.
@jmaritz328 Yeah 16 is not old at all, 25 is old. If you would have read the article provided he suffered an injury in the past giving him a slight limp. The horse lived to 29 ,a respectable age, I'm sure like every horse he got arthritis but not for this reason. Geez our 36 year old horse got arthritis when he was in his late 20's and he was averagely rode not over worked. It also says that he was retired after this accomplishment so IF they did damage it was not worse on.
What I find amazing is the complete halt & the launch from a standstill @ 1:25.
Incredible strength & athleticism. It looks like he is going to refuse and then just springs straight up !! Even though he has great impulsion approaching the jump ( I'm sure that there would really be no other way to do it) it still looks so impossible.
This isnt the first time i have seen this jump. it is truly amazing. im just not sure how i feel about it. I could never think of training my horse to jump that high. As humans we push these animals beyond their limits and in more cases than not they either live out their lives in pain, or dont get to live them out at all. enjoy your horse for the simple creature it is. why does everything have to be bigger and better and faster?
i'd ve think HOLYYY FUCKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lmaooo thats fricken amazing that the horse cleared that and the rider stayed on. Cruel honestly tho. i mean how much stress that puts on the horses hind and front legs and hooves.. yikess. but cool anyho :) lol
Ähm man macht die züqel ab nur mal sou weil wenn die züqel übern Hals qehen und das pferd drauf tritt kanns passieren das das qenick durch ist !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As much as this is amazing, I also think this height is dangerous - no matter how much a horse loves jumping, that horse had it's doubts and I thought at one point it was going to flip. Yep its exciting and amazing he got over it but if anything went wrong, both of them would probably have been dead.
@TheRubyRose13 Well done - so maybe they don't go up to such stupid heights because the next time someone attempts this they'd probs be dead sunsihine, was just saying ;-)
i'm impressed they could jump that high without breaking the horse's frontlegs, afterall on the way down both the the rider and the horse's weight rest solely on two legs. Thumps up for the guts :o)
i could jump that its tiny lol lol lol only jokin it's frigin massive and if any of u think you could jump u would have to video yourself jumping it cause its the only way i will believe u . anyway sure noone could jump that...
just 3 big questions u mightant be able to answer
1.... how many hands is that horse and what is his name
Amazing in slow motion! I had only seen still shots before. The horse's complete trust and athletic ability is a credit to the Capt., how proud he must have been of his great horse.
Awesome video, I love jumping but never even would think about attempting that high!!!
I remember when i jumped a 4 year old Arabian cross A.S.H it jumped then stopped dead after and i fell off and did like a somersult (probly not but it felt like it)
When they broke the world record at 2.47 meters (8 ft 1¼ in), Huaso was already 16 years old, quite old for a result of that magnitude. After the record, the horse was retired and never ridden again. He roamed freely until he died naturally on August 24, 1961, at the age of 29. Huaso is buried on the same Cavalry Academy where he spent his last years. RIP
and to indie gurlx74 -flying???-sorry but crawling seems the better word-if you concentrate you would see that it looks as if huaso wants to refruse another time but for some reason i don´t get he doesn´t-all respects to the horse but none to the rider
@lumpiknubbel the horse would not have done it if he didnt want to trust me. its not cuel, he trusted the rider and at the end of the day, enjoyed a good retirement till he passed away peacefully at a full life of 29 years old.
sorry i´m totally a jumper but that´s cruel-of course there are horses loving to jump, but i think that´s too much-and the landing seems really hard, really maks me thinking shit
I´m chilean and knew Captain Larraguibel. They trained for months, specially running in the beach and free jumps without rider. Huaso refused the first time, barely touched the second and passed incredibly the third. He did not whip him after the refussal, instead he gave him confidence. Riders put attention in his position in the top of the junp: perfect ! as if he were jumping 1,2 meters. The horse was retired not because he had and injury but as a recognition to his amazing achievement.
@eddy1240 i really respect the rider and horse combination, but in this video (i'm guessing is the third try) he clearly whips the horse twice upon approaching the jump. i haven't seen the refusal, but if he whips the horse to jump it, i'm guessing he whipped him for the refusal.:/
What I mentioned is that immediately after the refusal, in the second attempt; he didn’t whip him, but padded him and gave him confidence. When he faced the jump for the third time, he did whip him twice in the last moment. You must understand that he was facing a 2:47 meter jump and Huaso had refused the last time, so he probably thought he needed the extra push. To me it’s incredible that he passed after a refusal.
haha i absolutely love jumping. its my passion but there is nothing you could say or do that would make me attempt a jump that high. hats off to captain alberton :) :)
People might said well he was whipping it so it had no choice but to jump it blah blah blah. But if i hourse does not want to jump it you litrally cant make it no matter what force you use! If it did not want to jump it would refuse.
Very skilled rider that horse has a fucking good jump on it!!
that must have been one really honest horse to attempt something like that..i know if i tried that on mine then he would refuse full stop or just demolish the fence haha but im amazed by this video :D i wonder if anybody else has ever tried it?
Thanks for showing this as it is amazing but they are crazy. No way would i risk my horse 2 get in a book if you know what i mean. Thanks for posting as it was really amazing to watch. :)
Whoa! Thats awesome but i feel sorry for the horse because at the end the Capt. is getting all the attention when really it was the horse who jumped the damned thing! Also this is not the highest jump its actually something like 8ft 3 in or something. So yeah thats the unofficial highest jump
@misshorsey22 No, this is the official highest jump. The other one, the 8ft3 one, was the unofficial one. Only 25 people watched so it wasn't counted as being public enough.
I totally agree with you though, the capt. didn't just jump 8ft high, did he? :(
I know the puissance jumpers can jump about 2.30m, am not sure how many riders attempt this sort of height though. Only the best, strongest and most most capable horses in the world jump these heights, not everyone is crazy enough to ask their horse to jump that!!
Did you ever try to hit the bone of your leg, under the knee, when jumping over or simply hitting something?
Strongly advise you try..
And then come back to the video and have a look at WOODEN bars of the fence and imagine that YOU, being a horse, have NO CHOICE...... You will probably find an answer to your "how..." ....
Honestly, the horse that jumped the highest in the world was the chestnut thoroughbred called Kings Own, he jumped over an 8ft 3 1/2 hurdle. But since the crowd wasn't big enough, it didn't count... But Huaso was actually put in the records.
the horse is lucky it didnt brake its fuckin legs n he is must he be fairly good for nowin how to land that with out falling off thw highest jump my horse n i have jumped is 1.60 n i felt like i was gunna crash on the other side
@dogagilitygeek I would guess a thoroughbred, as warmbloods weren't yet all that popular, or even anywhere near the way they look today. But holy shiznaps, this freakin horse could JUMP!! And this man could freakin RIDE!! Perfect balance, an automatic release, and complete and utter confidence. I wish riding could go back to the way it was, and I wish instructors would stop basting people in kind lies for more money. *steps off random soapbox*... uh, what was I saying? lol
that had to be terrible for the horse...hes probabley like "GET OFF! GET OFF! GET OFF!" i would just stop and throw him over it just to see how HE likes it...
there are horses who don't like jumping but there are horses that do...
I had a horse who, at shows, would constantly try to get into th jumping field... he would drag me there when i was holding him and try and walk there when i was riding....believe me there are horses who just looove jumping and for someone to do something like this he has to be riding on of those horses....
people were crazy back in the day. Just think this guy wasn't wearing a helmet and if the horse got injured, there was so much less a vet could do for him. Crazy stuff.
I was already quite aware the XC jumps don't move but I'm sorry, I know more about eventing now and understand. But actually the grease helps a horse for when they get caught up on a fence so they don't bruise their legs. At the time I had a horse who would jump about 2 or 3 feet higher than needed. I've learned now after buying a new mare, actually an Espiritu baby (She's had lots of training and is more experienced) that not all horses jump as high as they can and jump the amount needed.
If he loved his horse, he would never risk that. Also, he had to take the crop to it cause the smart horse was saying "fuck that"!! Sorry, for being negative, but I thought it was cruel>(
Lol, and my computer chooses to buffer right as he's about to take off. XD

Whoa! Thats awesome but i feel sorry for the horse because at the end the Capt. is getting all the attention when really it was the horse who jumped the damned thing! Also this is not the highest jump its actually something like 8ft 3 in or something. So yeah thats the unofficial highest jump
misshorsey22 1 year ago
@misshorsey22 No, this is the official highest jump. The other one, the 8ft3 one, was the unofficial one. Only 25 people watched so it wasn't counted as being public enough.
I totally agree with you though, the capt. didn't just jump 8ft high, did he? :(

plz what is name of that song ??
Lejlusa1 2 years ago
I feel so sorry for the horse! As fleur4198 said, imadgen what it feels like! And the hudge presure on the horses front feet!!
This should not be legal! Though it's amazing to watch, and you've got to have nervs to do this!!
hanneb94 2 years ago
I know the puissance jumpers can jump about 2.30m, am not sure how many riders attempt this sort of height though. Only the best, strongest and most most capable horses in the world jump these heights, not everyone is crazy enough to ask their horse to jump that!!

god how can the horse jump that high
breyercraze101 2 years ago
Did you ever try to hit the bone of your leg, under the knee, when jumping over or simply hitting something?
Strongly advise you try..
And then come back to the video and have a look at WOODEN bars of the fence and imagine that YOU, being a horse, have NO CHOICE...... You will probably find an answer to your "how..." ....

Amazing, maybe some one will beat the record one day, with all these new high performance diets and exercise.

Honestly, the horse that jumped the highest in the world was the chestnut thoroughbred called Kings Own, he jumped over an 8ft 3 1/2 hurdle. But since the crowd wasn't big enough, it didn't count... But Huaso was actually put in the records.
GuardianofDarkness 2 years ago
the horse is lucky it didnt brake its fuckin legs n he is must he be fairly good for nowin how to land that with out falling off thw highest jump my horse n i have jumped is 1.60 n i felt like i was gunna crash on the other side

What breed!!!!=}
dogagilitygeek 2 years ago 6
@dogagilitygeek I would guess a thoroughbred, as warmbloods weren't yet all that popular, or even anywhere near the way they look today. But holy shiznaps, this freakin horse could JUMP!! And this man could freakin RIDE!! Perfect balance, an automatic release, and complete and utter confidence. I wish riding could go back to the way it was, and I wish instructors would stop basting people in kind lies for more money. *steps off random soapbox*... uh, what was I saying? lol
matrixmare 1 year ago
@dogagilitygeek Huaso was a 16.1hh chestnut Thoroughbred stallion
Huaso broke the record, jumping 8.2 feet at the age of 16

there are horses who don't like jumping but there are horses that do...

What an amazing horse!
xxsenixx 2 years ago
I was already quite aware the XC jumps don't move but I'm sorry, I know more about eventing now and understand. But actually the grease helps a horse for when they get caught up on a fence so they don't bruise their legs. At the time I had a horse who would jump about 2 or 3 feet higher than needed. I've learned now after buying a new mare, actually an Espiritu baby (She's had lots of training and is more experienced) that not all horses jump as high as they can and jump the amount needed.
thoroughbredrescuer4 2 years ago
that has gotta hurt the horse. even without a rider it would hurt dropping from 8ft.

If he loved his horse, he would never risk that. Also, he had to take the crop to it cause the smart horse was saying "fuck that"!! Sorry, for being negative, but I thought it was cruel>(
