  • Watching both videos it's really no debating that the Sega CD version looks the best of them all.

  • @BuIIshitter MSX2 & SCD FTW, I still don´t understand how the PSX and Saturn version looks downgraded in comparision to PC-Engine and Sega CD.

  • 2:25 haha! Thats pretty clever, how Metal Gear takes the form of whatever console you're on.

  • At least we ultimately got the best version as an exclusive...

  • thanks a lot :)

now I wanna enjoy playing it through at least twice. sega cd and msx2 versions :D

  • I still maintain that the Sega CD version is the definitive one.

  • Also seriously, which CD did you get the Creeping Silence arrange from?

  • @pHr33kAcHu

It's from the "Snatcher>>Policenauts Music Compilation of Hideo Kojima Black Disc"

The track name on this OST is "Danger Dance... & Justice All".

  • @GirianSeed573 awesome,Thank you! ^o^

  • Awesome and well done video, man!

  • I'm really likeing the msx ones.

  • this was on ps2 dvr?

  • Playstation version of Gibsons corpse... That looks pretty new-age-resident-evil, I guess?

  • Sega CD>

  • I'd like to point out that Jean's head is not missing from the Saturn version, the head is shown as the camera shifts upward. I'd also like to point out that Isabella's outfit is black in the Saturn port.

  • 0:54 How could they do this to Mika in PSX and Saturn version

  • Anybody notice Sparkster (konami) and Alien in Outerhaven? Lmao. Does anybody recognize any other familiar characters? xp

  • @BloodyDoves Everyone noticed that.

  • Funny how in trying to censor Jean-Jack's corpse for the Playstation it ended up being the most terrifying version.

  • Yeaaaaaah Sega CD all the way! If I had a PC-Engine that wouldn't be too bad either

  • I like the Mega CD version for it's graphics.

  • Damn, Jean-Jack's corpse looks a lot more terrifying on the Playstation, with the supremely dark, washed-out color scheme. I'm sure it's just to censor out the red of the blood, but even so...

  • Very interesting--although, I don't know why anyone would NOT like this--How could someone not like observations?

  • I like the MSX version just cause i'm such a geek

  • It's strange, but I find the PC-E version a little more appealing to the eyes.

The colors overall look more anime-ish and the art aswell.

I still like the Sega CD version, anyway. But I've got to test the PC-E version.

  • god i love this game

a remake on ps3 would be awesome

  • Very Good! There´s a Nintendo DS version of this game too.. I made a (horribly) video of it..

  • What the hell! Mika's hotter on EVERY OTHER VERSION than the SCD...

I'm thinking about switching over to PCE or even MSX...

  • the psx saturn ver of gillian looks like a overweight sad sack dope like shia lebeouf or something

  • havent played psx/saturn versions, but i don't like that they gave the characters a more "anime" makeover... i like my pixellated old school npcs! (pc88/msx have best music...discovered alot of parallels with metalgear2 for msx :)

  • hot damn the decapitated pic kina surprisded me

  • 2:28

    lol

  • SInce they're porting TurboGrafx CD games on the Wii's Virtual Console, I hope they port that version of Snatcher on the Wii.

  • At 2:09, I see Power Pro-kun from the Jikkyō Powerful Pro Yakyū series in the PlayStation version, while I see Sparkster from Rocket Knight Adventures and its same name sequel, and Bill and Lance from the Contra arcade and series in the Sega CD version. I also see Goemon from the Ganbare Goemon/Mystical Ninja series in both versions.

Anyway, here are the release years of all versions from first to last: MSX2/PC88 (1988), PC-Engine CD-ROM (1992), Sega CD/Mega CD (1994), PS1/Saturn (1996).

  • SEGA CD!!!

    quem diria...

  • got an mega cd PAL version of the game, can anyone tell me where i can sell this....

(i know... e-bay or stuff, but somebody says it was rare)

    TX

  • Wow, there some really drastic improvements in each console. . .I still like the CD version better BUT the detail of Jean Gibson's death scene and Metal Gear Mk. II in the PSX/Saturn versions are magnificent . . .Jean's death looks more brutal without the head and Metal Gear looks more belivable in those versions. . .

  • Sega CD is the one that looks the best since it's like the PC but more colorful. PSX/Saturn are nice but look kind of anime-ish to me in some parts.

  • I totally agree with you. The PSX/Saturn versions look too cartoony while the Sega CD has a more gritty and realistic feel that really adds to the game.

  • i think sega cd is the closest version to the original pc engine, only part which is quite different is at 1:53

they took the same legs but somehow changed the body.. i think here the pc engine version looks best

  • i say this game kiiiinda reminds me of the movie Blade Runner with Harrison Ford and i don't mean to sound dumb, lame, or anything but i dunno. what do u guys think??

  • There are many similarities. I'd say Kojima is a fan of Blade Runner :]

  • Yeah, he loosely based this game to Blade Runner, Terminator and Invasion of Body "Snatchers". . .most (or maybe all) of his games were based on movies like Metal Gear for example--based on the film Escape From New York where the main character also happens to be called "Snake". . .even Policenauts as well (Alien, Blade Runner, Lethal Weapon)

  • it was inspired by blade runner. there are quite a few obvious spots. i also believe i read the creator in the interview saying it was an inspiration.

  • the sega cd version looks the best to me overal a bit brighter then the pc engine version and i heard and belive that the colour limitation was reduced in this sega cd version and that in some way they carnked up the colours.sega cd isn't a flop to me i still enjoy tthe games for it more then 10 so,final fight sonic jaguar etc it had potential and the colours could have been more defnitly up to 200 but programming skills and lazyer programmers, the system showed great 3d,perhaps the 1st 3d HC.

  • Oh wow. After finishing the Sega CD version, I'm surprised at how badly Jean Jack got owned in the other versions, and I'm really shocked that they got away with a lot of the things they did in that day and age.

  • Can someone tell me the song name/artist of the music playing in this video?

  • Sega CD version by far the best, Saturn and PSX versoin is fail. so strange that the inferrior systems did a better job at the game. heck even the MSX2 did a better job.

  • Even though as a Snatcher fanboy I also say that Sega CD has the best graphics overall, I still think that Saturn/PSX had some pretty good graphics in general for the areas (Not so much characters) just because it was more detailed and such.

  • GREAT post. i have always wondered about the other console versions of the game. who remixed the song? that was ridiculously awesome!!! a lot of the music from the game is still good.

  • segacd looks the best.

  • I think the people overall look better in the sega cd version.

  • Kojima really just remade the metal gear in Snatcher and updated his idea for MGS 4.

  • i have always liked my pc engine games and visuals more because for the most part are original versions. this video shows a little of the butchery that ports(games changed for other countrys besides japan) received. besides less sexual themes(:56), religious reference and all the making fun of other races, most storylines period were taken away from the ported games. anyways, sega cd as a whole your getting butchered "ports" but they are at least in engrish. pc engine delivers but in jap.<3NEC

  • Although I love the PC-E version, I still like the Sega CD best. People rush too much into the whole "Sega CD is censored!!" and dont really know how little was really changed. Again, I love the PC-E version, but the added intro sequence, the completed Act 3 and the better sounding soundtrack (just by a little) make the Sega CD version the best for me...

  • @liquidpolicenaut

don't forget the fact that the sega cd version is the only release of snatcher available in english.

  • Sega CD best!

  • PC version looks like Sega CD version but a little more grey and white.

  • PC?

  • PC Engine. In America they were called Turbografx16

  • PC engine version looks the best IMO

  • Very cool video. Thanks for the comparisons. And nice touch with the BGM from the Snatcher >> Policenauts album. ^^)

  • Looking at this video I'd say that the Sega CD version is the better of them. it's the least edited if it at all I've played that one and I should again to see if there is anything I missed. The biggest thing I noticed was the shot of the Dead Junker. The PS and Saturn versions took out Jeans severed head and toned the blood down a lot.. After plaing the game and seeing this it makes me question would Snatchers act like, yeah before we go we should clean up this wall and take his head with us

  • SegaCD is the BEST version

  • Kojima should bring this game back to current consoles like X360 & PS3. make a HD Uncut Enhanced version, but keep US Sega CD one as optional as well, and a sequel after that, it would be nice. Also should make a US translation of Policenauts to today's consoles as well. I think they are better than the Metal Gear series, In my opinion. Kojima please bring these game back. (US Translation Compilation would even do as well)!

    Thank You! Kojima

    Your Fan Jason.

  • also look at 2:18, sega cd exotic-dancer looks the hottest! msx,pc88 & pce look like hookers/junkies. not junkers ;-)

while psx & saturn looks like ariel the disney mermaid. sega cd is the one i would pick!

  • I'm playing the Sega Cd version. And its indeed better than the other versions.

  • people complain it's edited. where!? probably 2 seconds of sex scene? stupid nerds... look at 1:55 you fucking nerds! does that look edited to you. sega cd looks the bloodiest

  • what a pointless comment

  • Not only you are a nerd like us too, for clicking and watching this video, but you are also a Hypocrite!

  • Isn't it funny how both Snatcher and Blade Runner have many different versions, with people still arguing over which is best. Coincidence?

In my opinion the Sega CD version of Snatcher is best, and of course the 2007 Final Cut version of Blade Runner.

  • dude SEGA CD's Snatcher version is the ultimate version of the game, even the chicks looks more hot on that version :P lol

  • cool

  • Hehe i love 2:26 when they show Metal gear at the end :).. each one of the consol your playing it at.

  • 1:15 - Boy, how many times has THAT shot been used in film and video games? Hell, Duke Nukem does that pose just before going "I'm back!" in Duke Nukem II. I think that was based on The Terminator? Not sure.

  • the saturn version doesnt have the outer heaven part?

it doesnt appear the saturn version.

  • the PC version likes more better in quality but the sega version is better i guess

  • how deep and stylish look the playstation & pc engine versions!

  • Doesn't this take place in the MGS universe? I think the game had some connections, like when revealing your metal partner.

  • Great

  • Favourite Game. Ever. ..

  • sega cd is best )))

  • The mega cd/ sega cd version is considered the best and I agree. I have an original mint copy of the sega cd game and it was the MUSIC which made it the best in that version. I cannot believe that the PLaystation/saturn version was worst.

  • No serious Sega CD collection is complete without a copy of "Snatcher."

Despite most of the games released on it in North America, this system still managed to have a decent share of truly great games. It's just too bad that most of the greats for the Sega CD/Mega CD stayed in Japan.

I've got a copy of this game myself as well. I just need to get around to playing it.

  • Jack Gibson's Corpse on the Playstation kind of gives me the creeps

  • Same here. Actually, despite not showing Gibson's head, it looks more gruesome to me than the other versions... the muted colours make it look almost photographic.

  • PC Engine wins

  • i loved thhs game on the mega-cd.

one of the finest games ever.

can anyone remember the lightgun sections.

the ones near the end were bastard hard.

  • HELL'S TEETH! I just checked this badboy out on ebay. £100 for a retro sega cd game!!! Hmm if I put a £! aside everyday i can play it in 100 days time! I may have to quit coffee... but then again i'd still have to buy a sega cd just for one game. That is unless Policenauts ever gets translated....

  • You know how much I payed for a copy of Snatcher? £3 at my local Gamestation. I shit you not, and because it was buy one get one free I got a copy of Micro Machines V3 with it for nothing.

But yeah, I just got very lucky. Haven't you ever heard of emulation? That's how I first played it. ISO or the original disk, Gens can play them both.

  • Oooh you lucky bastard! No i haven't heard of emulation. What is it?

  • But... that was a rhetorical question. You really haven't heard of emulation? If so I honestly don't know where to start in terms of explanation. I'm sure a google search would be good start.

I think you'll be able to find the iso at "Rom Bomb". Remember you'll also need the bios files. Just remember that for later.

  • the best one out of all of those is the Sega CD and the Saturn version isn't that bad either.

    ;)

  • 1:08: I wonder why the Sega CD version was the only one to have a Madonna poster in Harry's room while the other versions had Marylin Monroe. 1:25: LOL, Metal Gear looks stupid in the PlayStation and Saturn versions.

  • it looks like they rendered out a 3d model for mkII - doesn't fit in very well with the sprite background..

  • MGS games I didn't know about, I must own these...

  • Sega CD is superior.

  • The Sega CD version is superior, I agree. It was the only one to be translated (It also didn't exist in Japan on the SCD), the voice was done well, and the Sega CD hardware supported it nice. The bloody scenes weren't butchered like the PSX and Saturn versions, and the graphics, colors and resolution were a touch better than the PCE. The SCD was also the only version to have light gun support.

  • @Naxwell Agreed!

  • man thats wicked!

    thanxx

  • Very nice video, I love this game, it doesn't matter the version!

  • i think the sega cd version looks like the most rounded one,pc engine always has that a bit feel to it,the graphics of a pc engine cant touch sega cd.

  • Cool vid. There are a couple more differences that aren't appropriate for Youtube. PCE version is the best, but you gotta play the Sega CD version first, then learn how to spell Napoleon in Japanese (ah memories).

  • I've always wonder what the remodeled Mk.II looked in the other versions. Thank you!

  • wondered*

  • ehh...The Sega CD and PCE versions are better than the PSX,Saturn, and MSX.The Sega Cd and PCE just has a more authentic look to it i dunno.

  • so the story is goes metal gear snatcher then policenauts right and in psx what happend jans head

  • Awesome! Thank you'

  • Geeze it's hard to spot the differences at 2:25!

  • Haaa! Hysterical!!

  • great vid, it was awesome to see all those differences.

  • Snatcher for nintendo ds.

  • The colour palette of the Mega CD version is slightly reduced compared to the PC Engine (which is considered by Kojima as his director's cut). The only addition of the MCD version is the longer intro, inspired from the PCE manual. The MCD sequenced music is not as great as the PCE one, and some of the CD tracks are entirely different. Still the MCD version is enjoyable.

As for the PS1/Saturn ports, the chara-design has been completely changed, and unfortunately not for the better.

  • I honestly like the music in the Sega CD version more than the PC-Engine version.

  • The final act is also much longer in the Mega CD version than in the PC Engine CD version.

  • I have been wanting to try this game for a while, remember when I was a kid peeking through some preview of this game and being scared by the visuals

It would be nice if they ever considered to remake it, as the ds could be a perfect fit..

  • wow. what is that music? can somebody please tell me where to download it? so good. . .

  • Damn, i loved that game! I'm glad at least Konami had the cojones to release this game, Snatcher in the U.S.!

Pity the same couldn't be said about Policenauts.

  • Sega CD is the PC-Engine but more, which might i add is regarded as the best JAP release of the game. Its in English yeah, but theres more additions than changes, and the few changes arent all that bad. And yeah, non Japanese speaks dont exactly have a choice either

  • I'm gonna say it's a toss up between the sega cd and the pc88. I have the sega cd version, and I don't speak japanese, so I might be a little biased.... regardless, the psx/saturn versions look terrible

  • Hey Hideo Kojima, Blade Runner fan much??? =P

  • You didn't know? Count the Hollywood references in Kojima's work. You will lose count.

  • What?! Kojima's into Hollywood movies? Like Escape From NY? And First Blood?? And The Rock??? Nooo! It can't be true!

    You knew?

  • "Metal... Gear..."

    - "You knew?!"

  • God, the Saturn/PSX art looks like crap.

  • Yeah... i prefer SCD and PCE versions

  • okay, gonna defend one sceen for the Saturn version cause I think metal looks the best in the sceen where he is rebuilt with the system the game is out on under him. Metal Gear Sega Saturn is the best out of those 4 lol

  • What song is this?

  • My pussy ass friend had nightmares after seeing gibson dead, and has never gotten over it to this day

  • dan sucks balls

  • the sega cd version is the best. ironically. it's the only version of snatcher in english and it's the best version. even more ironic is that the sega cd snatcher is the only version to be never released in japan

  • the sega cd version is the best.

  • The sega cd is the best and always will be

To bad all the other Sega Cd games sucked except for Sonic cd ofcourse

  • You say this because you haven't tried games like Lunar 1 & 2, Shining Force CD, Popful Mail and Final Fight CD.

  • don't forget them make my videos! those are hilarious to play now!

  • Never played this game or head of it untill now the sega Cd version looks much better also PSX and Saturn has the head missing in the decapitation pictures also sega CD has Sparkster init. Also I'd have to say this must be the first time konami has released a game on multiplatforms that has altered storylines and features before metal Gear solid on the PS1, PC and GC.

  • wrong, a year before snatcher, metal gear was released for msx and nes and oh boy in the nes there's not even a metal gear in it, isn't that fucking point and name of the game? so if you don't call that a "game on multiplatforms that has altered storylines " then wow.

metal gear solid's story wasn't changed when ported. plus the one on gamecube is a remake made by a totally different company, so it is not in any way a game released on muliple platforms

every single thing you said was wrong..

  • The SEGA CD version looks the best. The MSX2 version looks better than the PC ENGINE. PSX & SATURN look like they altered some of the graphics & they look worse on some of the screens.

  • Sega CD, best version ever. I hope for a remake of that game for Wii, or a virtual console port.

  • I think that oh shit I hae to go to work instead of ocd on snatcher.

  • Another difference I noticed is that the Sega CD version has a bit extra in the intro. Right before Gillian takes off he talks to his wive for a few seconds beforehand. This isn't in the PC Engine version.

  • Wow, the sunset looks astoundingly beautiful on Sega CD and PC-Engine, but complete shit on PSX and Saturn.

  • You right, it's a bit of a mess, shouldn't it be quite the opposite?

  • Great Video! Whats sad is the quality of the PSX and Saturn versions are shit compared to the Sega CD and PCE Versions..wow.

  • I think the Sega CD version of Snatcher takes the cake, really. The PC-Engine version is close to it, but the colours all look much paler and more washed out. The PSX and Saturn version are really disappointing in terms of artwork and colour; the best Playstation screenshot is the shot inside Outer Heaven with Isabella onstage. It's actually *better* than the Sega CD version. (Why in the world did they give her a green bikini? What was wrong with black?)

  • I only played the Sega CD version and had a look at the MSX version. But i would have to agree that the Sega CD version is the best.

  • Nice you can really see the differences you can also tell how the censored the Saturn and PSX versions with Gibson's head missing

  • My god . .. did you see the size of Jean-Jaques Gibson's forehead in the PSX version?

  • @ DrHanuman

lol i was about to mention the same thing,

i bet his headbutt attack is even more effective than his blaster.

  • It's quite clear you've spent a lot of work on this. Bravo!

  • Nice video, although it isn't very clear. I like the Mega CD version best. I think the PSX/Saturn version kind of try too hard and look un-naturally realistic as a result. Why is Gibson's severed head blue in the MSX version?

  • MSX version overdoes the blue XD

  • The SegaCD version looked the best, =D And yes, a very nice video. Thank you!

  • nice vid man ;)

  • Nice video! Thank you.
