That and the fact that TF2 went from about 10k players on at any time to 50k players on at any time means that there's about 4 times more new players than there were. Still, I think F2P TF2 is a change for the better.

Don't forget the servers trying to comply with the sudden increase of players,which they obviously couldn't. The regular servers are usually full and all that's left are the crappy ones who offer more slots they can handle, for example(to my experience,anyway)
