  • Zinman is simply amazing.. How often we have heard this little fugue turned to mud by a careless tempo and inattention to dynamics. Zinman shows us the right way to do this music so that Nielson's intentions are fully realized.BTW, the more I know of Nielson the more I am convinced he was not Dannish; he was a Viking who would just as soon put a spear in you as take his next breath.

  • @0:54 the horn player second from the left has a microphone in front of him and it makes him look translucent. :)

  • Who is the 3rd trumpet ?

  • @murillomb1 That is Andre Schoch, former student of Matthias Höfs, nowadays member of the Berlin.Phil. Orchester-Akademie. 2009-2011 he was principal trumpet (substitute) of the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig.

  • I would like to see Berlin record the whole Nielsen cycle for CD and DVD or at least the DCH. Berlin did all the Sibelius, now it is time to do all 6 of the Nielsen symphonies.

  • Bravo! Congratulations Clarinets Solo, Bassons, Horns, Trumpets. Great Performance! Bravíssimo BerlinPhil.

  • who is solo horn?

  • @lukasnickel It is Robert Langbein, solo horn with the Staatskapelle Dresden.

  • @BerlinPhil it would be nice if Baborak came back to the orchestra, just as Pahud did or Zoeller.

  • Saw Zinman conduct last nigh with Boston! He's pretty awesome! Thanks for the upload!

  • Nice to see guillaume jehl on first trumpet :D

  • @SchwarzeDose21

  • clarinets are fantastics here

  • MAGISTRAL

  • 0:53 God! He changes the clarinet in the middle of the piece, why does he do that? '-'

  • @juliosax93 i think he changes Bb clarinet to A clarinet or otherwise. check the clarinet parts

  • @marcojca you're right! I checked a sheet music in the imslp and there's a change beetween Bb and A clarinets for the 2nd

  • @juliosax93 look again.

  • @marcojca I was looking at the 2nd clarinet part in the score and there is no indicated change there. The key doesn't change, and he would only be dealing with 1 flat on his B flat. Maybe he started the excerpt on the A, because that particular passage was easier on the fingers, because there are a lot of crazy accidentals. Then switched back to the clarinet he should have been playing on in the first place! lol

  • @tannerjordan2010 check the clarinet parts only at IMSLP, not the full score. I think there is some changes to Bb to A.

  • @marcojca I just did. It was the same version I have, and in the part (either part) there is no change.

  • @tannerjordan2010 hmmm... :s

  • The clarinet part is damn hard!!!!!

  • The part of the clarinet is very hard... congratulations for Ottensamer and Seyfarth.

  • Carl Nielsen is my favorite symphonist. I'm glad he made it into the DHC of BerlinPhil! As always, a great job, thanks for this clip, I'm off to watch the whole thing with my subscription!
