  • who's the conductor, and which orchestra is this?

  • AMAZING.....

  • I remember seeing this when it aired on TV, and going back to it now it's still my favourite thing that she's ever done. Its kindof a shame that she never really transcended this... her sound was much nicer and had less of that awful scratchiness and over-aggressiveness that it has now.

  • jejeje at 5:10 she's having fun :-)

    Great concerto, great performance.

  • i'm more amazed by the conductor who was able to lead the orchestra to follow chang's tension n speed. feels like she's running to the end not breathing. but her technique and audacity at the age of thirteen is definitely, definitely amazing. i know i didn't have balls to lead my piano accompanist in front of professors when i was thirteen

  • what impresses me more than anything else is her "awareness" at this young age

  • Thanks so much for sharing this :-) the ultimate pick you up, played with such spirit & joy.

  • if u see the video of playing this song when she was older she plays it better here when she was this young!

  • WHAT A BEASTTTT

  • What a joyous perfermous. How that cello sang :-)

  • 3:42- wind players in the background- waiting for all this to be over lol. i feel sorry for them fo missing the climax lol

  • What IS it with this girl and red flowy dresses??? She look slike she's having so much fun! Love her

  • favourite, ever

  • hahahahhhhhahahah

  • im 13 and playing this

    woot woot

  • my favorite part was when she had her eyes closed

XD don''t kill me i'm korean too...

  • She's getting into it.. lol

  • my favorite part was when she smiled.

  • this is definitely not the c major - its haydn's d major cello concerto.

  • @OTamster ?? No its not

  • @xbasket12x oh haha ok youre right sorry

  • @OTamster This is the 3rd Movement of Haydn's 2nd Cello concerto in C major. I played it last year.

  • @yotubby123 Haydns 1st Cello concerto, not the 2nd

  • @xbasket12x oops, sorry! :) i've played both, and it is the 1st.

  • @xbasket12x wow, how'd i screw up on that?! haha thanks

  • That smile at 5:10 was beyond words. Truly an incredible performance. Such power and control. An absolute mastery of the instrument.

    Bravo!

  • divino!

  • AMAZING!

  • wtf, 13??? the sky is the limit now

  • PURE GENIUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • O.o!

  • one of the rare few that can truly express the true power of Haydn's 3rd movement in C Major. her proformance was vertually flawless and completely remarkable. my hat goes off to her.

  • She is amazing. Love her :D x

  • This is truly amazing!

  • LOL @ her face.

    But her playing is amazing!

  • LOL, I'm 13 and I play the cello too, but nowhere near this good

my friend is playing the first movement of this, and it is freaking hard, she makes it look so easy and she enjoys playing it so much, it's amazing to just watch her play, let alone listen to this wonderful music... XD <3

  • lol im a 14 yr old cellist but only at Amus level shes one yr younger yet 1000 times more pro. so much inspiration

  • skyli mauro!! bravo!

  • lol, i'm thirteen and nothing

  • she looks so pro in 5:10 to 5: 14

  • shes so cute and talented!

  • wow....she already had that talent within her when she was just 13!! AMAZING.

  • compare with her more recent "mature" performance - also on youtube

  • fantastic...absolutely fantastic

  • the power of Koreans!!! yeah!!!

  • Comment removed

  • WOW! Everything about her performance is amazing! What a pro little girl and seriously, tone quality everything AMAZING

  • How can she get the courage to performe in front of all those people! I can do a hundred, but not like a 1000!

  • AMAZING!!!!

  • I like her facial expression when she plays this! but then again every cellist has some weird faces when they play cello

  • indeed.. :p I'm working on mine :D

  • Lol, I play the violin, and everyone says I look so funny when I play.

I think if you're really into it then your face just shows it. xD

  • Wow

  • awesome... just excellent! she was so into the music! fantastic!

  • she plays this song so much better in nowadays.

shes also amazing in this clip but in nowadays... she plays this like.... like something that is SO flawless it sounds almost like she composed a new music

  • yes, i agree. and it's normal.. in this video she is just a child, now she plays this wonderfuly, as an adult cellist

  • Certified Intergalactic!

  • Holy crap. This is amazing.

  • amazing. end of story.

  • Haydn ist genial!

  • ach gotti, die sieht ja fast süß aus neben dem riesen cello!! unglaublich, wie viel sie dann beim Spiel rüberbringt! Aber auch das orchester ist klasse!

  • Who can play better than her ?

Even haydn could not imagin his own concert be play like hanna's interpretation.

    Just amazing .

  • Holy crap that was 13 years ago. I was in that orchestra. Man this brings back memories. whoever posted this thank you. I never got to see it after we played it. She was more amazing in person, believe me!

  • really good!

  • ...easily..her articulation surpasses Rostropovich, Webber, Casals..by a long shot......Piatigorsky.....all of them....and she easily equals, no surpasses Feuermann...she is ahead of Maisky, too....she is 'it"

  • What a brilliant performance!!

It was way too adorable when she smiled at the conductor. My heart melted <3

  • swizzle I completely agree! She now hacks it to death. She tries to show off and ruins it.

  • I don't think she tries to show off. Talented kids usually have obsessed features like closing eyes, moving with the song, or even making facial movements, that they cannot help when playing. I remember my friends used to make fun of me when I played piano, because my body would move and move my head with the songs.

  • I heard all others playing this piece and i think she plays it the best, not only that, she is only 13 at that age. Its truly amazing, you don't just see that kind of talent anywhere. She is more punctual and i'd like to say she puts emotions into the songs instead of just playing them on the book like Rostropovach or Yo-Yo ma.

  • WOW!!!! left me with mouth open!!!!

  • it s so beauty 2:12 it s so sublimeee really beuty

  • its really unfortunate - i saw a video of her playing this now, 15 years later, and i think she though she should improve it but instead i think she ruined it. she has the same, amazing sounding cello but she overdid it, thought she was playing dvorak or elgar or sumthing - this is incredible - it really is a shame

  • i agree! but she is still young!!

  • excellentt very very good brava...she is the next Jacqueline du Pre

  • ya this is nothin'. i was playing this stuff right out of the womb! since then i have moved on to twinkle twinkle little star.

    :D

  • tocame la verga así !!! great!!!!

  • at that age, nice to see talented kids with great musicality

  • That looks like Jerry Springer

  • such an amazing performance

does anyone know where i can get the sheet music for this?

  • she has amazing cello skills..

  • you guys should go easy on the comments. She may be 1st class cellist now, but in this video is only THIRTEEN. Chill, im sure you guys weren't this good nor made a debute this early at age.

  • i wanna hear her play dvorak op. 104

  • love it when she smiles at the conductor! great playing at 13. so talented so young and still talented now.

  • i know..!!! 5:13

  • She gets a brilliant sound out of her cello. If she is to become a world class cellist, she needs to work on her posture especially her head position. *turtle neck*

I have that same problem. If she becomes world class with a 'turtle neck' she will be pounded by the critics

  • she "is" a world class with that 'turtle neck'.

  • me enamore de ella xD tendra novio

  • this is fast forwarded shes not playing that fast

  • It was funny :D

    Of course she does...

  • She's a great cellist, but her cello sucks. I can constantly hear those mild squeaks and screeches.

  • What a machine!!!

  • one word------------------------- "fantastic"

i love this sond...did this song for solo and small ensemble...got a 1...so excited....i emagined something happened...dnt kno what but it has alot more underneth the skin..if u digg...this song has so much emotion

  • She really really needs to learn to work on facial expressions... heh but otherwise she's great.

  • Comment removed

  • her bow looks really tight but i guess thats what she wanted cuz shes looking for a certain sound...

  • I don't play the cello but I do play the violin. When your bow is so tight like that it makes it easier to bounce off the strings("Spiccato"). I think that's why she had her bow so tightened up like that, because she had to do several spiccatos. And I think it also helps with playing staccatos(short, separate notes).

  • wow so amazing!! :DD

  • I think 2:14 is my favorite part....it's just pretty! I love how she also smiles at the conductor near the end

  • she's great!!!

i can NOT wait until i begin learning how to play this piece.

  • what orchestra is this?

  • you like

  • i do like, but i would like to know what orchestra this is.

  • International Chamber Orchestra

  • LOL NICE NAME.

    xkrnmapler...haha :D

  • she is a prodigy theres no doubt about that. Great work Han-na Chang. Your playing is absolutely amazingly fantastic you make me want to practice more.

  • Same here! I'm current stuck on this piece because I'm playing this song @ an ensemble and competition..

but watching her pushes me and makes me work harder and determined :)

  • It's Gerry Springer!

  • she is amazing!!!!! I know someone that performed this with my orchestra, but it was the first movement

  • La mejor version---

  • She plays like YO-MA MA!!!=)

  • ella es cero nervios cero nada.... deberíamos de aprender a controlarnos tambien... ella si que es un inspiración para seguir estudiando...

  • pwnage, although she is very aggressive in her play.

  • Holy fucking shit, I just got so owned by a thirteen-year-old. D=

  • Destined to be Intergalactic! Go, Han-na, go!

  • What's the usual tempo marking for this movement? I'm trying to build it up to this speed. So far I'm at 92 BPM.

  • I'd say around 130. You don't have to take it this fast...

  • I don't know if this makes me want to quit or get better lol.

  • well...

she is a prodigy girl so I think we can make a good job... if we study of course!!! :D

  • wonderful performance!

  • when did she make mistakes

  • then listen to wispelwey´s, hahaha

  • this is one of my new favorite videos!!!

  • so much fun to play! ahh!

so hard thoughh. i had calluses from hell.

  • she is korean

  • hahahahahaha

  • fanny...

  • She don't have any connection with Olympic Game. She is not a Chinese.

  • epo of 2nd generation ...

    Racisme = méconnaissance + préjugé

  • Right! i'm italian: what's the first thing that comes ito your had? 'mafia, pizza and maccheroni'..such an injustice!

however, why french people can't stand italian people? this is the question

  • sheet music?

  • Buy it. If you don't even know this concerto, then you probably shouldn't play it.

  • ur awfully rude. i can play this concerto quite well. but i no longer hav the sheet music for it. i was wondering if i could get it again for free. but clearly not

  • wats the exact name of this song called

  • Cello concerto in C major..

  • she has such an innocence to her playing.. its absolutely beautiful. It may not be 100%perfect however it is remarkable the maturity she has at such a young age

  • Amazing! I think it is not necessary to use a pic up microphone.

  • annaBananaTheSchrull creo que Jacqueline du pré jamás tendrá una rencarnación. fue demasiado maravillosa. Ni Yo-Yo Ma ha conseguido igualar su concierto de Elgar. un saludo!

  • but, for me; she doesn't have enough spiccato.. she's good in technique and everything, but just the spiccato is getting me.

  • omg that's the hardest movement :o

it's one of the hardest movements of a cello concerto ever!

she's really good!! i'm 14 and playing the no. 1 moderato. but she is like WHOA!!!

  • Pride of Korea

  • She really is exceptionally talented. (inevitable but...) But, her play isn't very soulful. With a little more maturity, she will be one of the greatest.

  • yet, she's 20 something now and the soulfulness has yet to appear :) I like her playing better as a 13 year old than her playing now.

  • why

  • I've listened to a lot of her romantic albums and she is very sensitive. If you think her playing as a 13 year old is better, there is something wrong there. I can think of reasons why but take my word for it.

  • OH MY GOD !

  • She's a reincarnation of Jacqueline du Pré? No...I wouldn't say that, too. She plays different from her. JDP plays as amazing but in a very different way...dunno how to say that...I like both very much...:)

  • Your right... I think Han-Na is more agressive than J. du Pre, but J. du Pre is....well....J. du Pre....

  • Oh....my.....god.

    She's thirteen.

    Woah.

  • OMG!!

    I am really dumbfounded...

    she is really really good!

  • wow

    this is AWESOME!!!

  • I traveled to Haydns home town in Austria. His music is as beautiful as his home country! yeah...she is good too =)

  • WHOAAAA yay poland lol :D

  • jesus.

she puts me to shame, and she's so young too.

  • i know how you feel xD

  • Shame is an understatement. I don't even want to play the cello anymore, lol, jk

  • her fingers fly! her articulation is so clean and clear.

  • It was very good, but I think she could chosse a little bit slower tempo in order to feel more confortable y maybe avoid some little mistakes. It was cool anyway

  • Je n'en vois vraiment pas l'intérêt: casser le tempo, -tout à fait essentiel ici- pour 2-3 fautes insignifiantes...

  • I think if the song is faster then it can be more interesting and more impressive.

  • I think her initial tempo was a bit slower, but she got thrown onto the fast one probably by the Maistro/orchestra.

  • amazing! Han-na Chang's playing always leave me speechless

  • You are great!!!!!!!!!11

  • well, when she was on the stage in the Rostropovich competition, she was so little and her cello was so big for her, Rostropovich couldn't see the player and thought himself that, "oh my...the cello walks!"

  • cuantos años tiene en ese vidio?

yo quiero tocar asi la mejor!!

  • imk trying to play this right now and its so HAARRRRDD!!!!!! For a 13 year old WOW SHES AWSOME!!!!!

  • I haven't heard anybody else show such a dazzling cello performance!! It's not just amazing to the ears of Rostropovich, but to my untrained ears also!! On top of that her facial expression is also very entertaining -cute :-)

  • wow she is amazing

  • amazing. had me goosebumps. :)

  • wow. saranghaeyo^^

  • it was a little bit rushed but still an amazing performance.

    =]

  • It's a western music that a korean perfect it.
