@ausGeoff Alright, I simply meant you love your beliefs. I was just keeping up with the parallel structure of the sentence. ;) My belief is that people, including kids, should be able to decide for themselves. At the moment, I can't prove there is a God undeniably just the same as it can't be disproven. I just believe it by faith.
On a different note, you must have some pretty fun conversations after commenting on every Hillsong video... ;)
@AcusticFarewell By saying that "it can't be disproven" that there is no god you've fallen for the old but well-known logical fallacy... nobody can "prove" a negative. Obviously, I can't "prove" the Easter Bunny doesn't exist, but does mean that he possibly could? Any rational person will of course say an emphatic NO. One simply isn't required to provide proof. You've just asserted that (a) god exists; do you have any empirical evidence in support of this? I thought not.
@AcusticFarewell —"On a different note, you must have some pretty fun conversations after commenting on every Hillsong video...". As a lifelong atheist, I guess I do my best to bring some rational, scientific, 21st century philosophy into these discussions. My specific criticisms of Hillsong - in Australia at least - include authoritarian church governance, a lack of financial accountability, resistance to free thought, strict fundamentalist teachings and lack of compassion.
@ausGeoff What do you suggest kids listen to? Mainstream music that encourages smoking, drinking, and degrading women? I don't know how it is in Australia but that's pretty much the music in the US. Hillsong isn't trying to con people into religion. They love God and want to share what they've found. You love not having a god and you're sharing what you've found. But trying to cut out Christianity is making the choice for the kids and not allowing them to even consider another possibility...
@AcusticFarewell You said "They love God and want to share what they've found. You love not having a god and you're sharing what you've found." I'd just like to correct this misconception. I definitely do NOT love NOT having a god. One simply is unable to NOT love something that doesn't exist. It's a non sequitur. It's like saying I don't like having fairies at the bottom of my garden! Hillsong make this untenable "god" proposition to gullible kids that [any] god exists in reality.
This sort of insidious religious proselytizing is totally unacceptable in a secular country such as Australia. The fact that less than 10 per cent of religionists attend church on a regular basis is more than enough proof that religion is a spent force in Australia. To release a (boring) song about a totally fictional paranormal event, without acknowledgment as such, is deception at its worst. We should NOT be subtly indoctrinating our children with bogus dark ages dogma in the 21st century!
@ausGeoff1 the people who wrote this song obviously believe in God and have faith that he exists. There is no deception in the fact that they're writing songs about their passion and beliefs. Do you think that these artists would devote they're whole lives knowing that it is for a false cause? Have some religious tolerance please, and don't go around arguing with people who don't agree with your own views. Not everyone in the world will agree with your own beliefs and ideals.
@pseven21 My major concern is that the membership of the "Hillsong" organisation are well known as obsessively fundamentalist Christians, and I'm more than concerned with fact that they've managed to get even more of their "advertising" into the music charts our kids are listening to every day - by subterfuge. This is typical of the varied ways they attempt to subtly convert an innocent and gullible demographic; in this case kids who can't yet make objective judgments about religious claims.
@ausGeoff1 So do you believe that it is your responsibility to shield children from christian outreach attempts (i.e music, novels, movies, missionaries) because they are vulnerable at that age? They are just as vulnerable to satanist messages, Budism, Hinduism, and Judaism. A lot of the songs that are currently on the top of the billboard charts are rap and hiphop songs about sex, drugs, violence, murder, stealing, fighting, etc. Same goes for modern day movies, novels. All Sex, drugs, violence
Love this song just bought the new album today and will post a cover shortly myself. Can i ask where did you get the acoustic version from as it didn't come with my album?
I just made a cover to this song! :)
