lol, Kennedy was no bigot. He put more blacks in Federal jobs then any president prior. Kennedy believed in civil rights, which is evidence with his book a nation of immigrants, but he was also a realist and knew that a bill would destroy every other program he had in mind.
To the moron who says the bill is thanks to the Republicans. Get real, those racist dixiecrats changed to the Republican party. It is why democrats have been unable to win the south.
Why would I surrender my inalienable rights for civil rights (privileges)? I'm an American not a citizen (franchisee) of a corporation called The United States.
Alfrunk, hardly anyone was not racist during that time period. Don't be an ass. JFK made the first public statement on Civil Rights, and he was gonna risk his reelction by introducing a Civil Rights Bill.
He sought advice fm Eastland as well as others, he was pragmatic. Guys like Eastland, Thurmond, and other southern senators chaired the powerful committees. Kennedy was a youngster they all resented. For a northern liberal to introduce CR legislation wld be political suicide and he knew it. That's why I foam at the mouth when I hear Republicans, especially some blacks say Jack Kennedy was insincere about civil rights. That speech he made took courage even tho Bobby told him he had to do it.
Not only were the Kennedys hostile to the Civil Rights Commission; they appointed 5 segregationist judges to the federal bench, including Harold Cox, who had referred to blacks as "niggers" and "chimpanzees." Robert F. Kennedy preferred Cox to Thurgood Marshall whom he described as "basically second-rate." Kennedy frequently turned to noted racist Mississippi Senator James Eastland for advice on appointments.
white civil right activists are so overrated! I agree with you...he was just another peckawoodc cracker....pretentious to blacks to face....but a bigot...disgust...im not fond of kennedy!
To the ignorant and stupid and those who didn't like Kennedy, they think he said "I am a donut," but if you lived in Berlin in 1963, he was casting himself as one of them in their stuggle against communism.
why dont you fight to defend your human rights, and stop begging the goverment for civil rights, which it has the authority to deny you? wake up

Republicans were mostly responsible for the civil rights act. Not that the race pimps would ever let that be known.
