  • Excellent, thank you.

  • "Alan Jones arrives in a rented Renault." Rented! Imagine Lewis Hamilton having to come in a rented car, he'd be embarrassed as hell.

  • Brilliant video. First time to see it. Has anyone got a copy of "the grid"? Another horizon series from 1981. October 19th 1981 was its broadcast date.

  • Not sure if its right to say that "turbo was banned". The move to NA engines was decided pretty early. The era that became turbo era proved that you can't really equalize turbo and NA engines.

I bet a lot of people are going to complain about "silent, not F1-sounding" turboe engines after 2013.

  • It makes me sad to see stuff like this banned. I don't understand why they banned skirts, turbos, slicks, electronic driver aids, keep reducing the size of the engines, etc. Next thing you know they'll start putting emissions crap on F1 cars! F1 is supposed to be the pinnacle of automotive technology and every time someone comes up with something great it gets banned! I think they should make a V12 turbo F1 car with ground effects, slicks, and electronic driver aids! It would be unbeatable!

  • This video is fascinating

  • to watch old f1 races check out classicgrandprixclub

  • "It's not built by arabs.... or even Leyland" LOL

  • I see keep all of the safty regs! Thats always the most important, but other than that, let the engeniers go wild!!

  • Can anyone tell me why the grid of F1 races in the old days aren't staggered in orderly like they are today? Look at the starting grid for the Canadian GP at the start of the video, you got three cars in the front!

  • @tiadaid because it was figured that the cars were getting faster and if more than one stalled at the front there was no way of stopping the cars behind, and a big accident, possibly death would occur!

  • "In 'Gentleman Lift Up Your Skirts', you can get to see some of the Grand Prix". (Nayman, 1981)

  • Are there any other Horizon F1 episodes?

  • No they're not. They're pushing the sport by banning technology that gives too much of an advantage. That way, teams advance cars in other ways, and the process starts over. This keeps the sport close and exciting. Also the tech eventually drips into road cars so it's a win win

  • @alexanderredhead

    FINALLY one who gets it!!!!!!

I don’t why this is so hard to understand?!

If FIA did not restrict the rules, we would have computer driven cars by now, with the driver almost sitting as a spectator, cause they are too powerful for any human to control! There would probably even be “auto pilot modes”!

And the teams would be far from each other, cause those with 10 percent more money would be 10 percent faster!

  • @Michaelingolfhansen Also, if we didnt have their rules, the cars would still be death-traps, also there'd only be 5 teams left the costs of everything would be so high.

  • Fuck that F.I.A. and there damn rules they are destroying F1.

  • @seroyer2 Oh, and u forgot the FIA are keeping the drivers alive much better in the last 20 years...but I guess this is 'destroying' f1 for....doh!
