Its obviously a 16v, the coil packs are on the rocker cover.
its proberly the oettinger judging by the shape of the cylinder head.

No!This is probably 8v,if its 1.6 or 1.8 GTI engine,but it can be 16v because Oetinnger made 16v heads for that engines.

Yep the exhaust camshaft is driven by the puley shown and the inlet camshaft is run via a chain at the other end of the head.
