  • Paul Gilbert doesnt follow physics, physics follows Paul Gilbert.

  • Wow paul has changed his technique a lot!

  • @JSmithTheAxeMan wtf are you smoking changed? he plays faster.... you're dumb as fuck

  • @ghandrbluver Lol n00b...No, you're dumb as fuck. I meant it as good, so you're raging for no reason.

Look at his picking hand, it's more economical now. And so is his fretting hand.

    Enjoy being schooled amatuer.

  • @avasquezhigashi true.... true... hehe...

  • 0:22 thta part remainds me of a van halen song

    "i'm the one"

  • nice observation dude, I would never have heard that!

  • Now that you mention it, this whole song is somewhat reminiscent of "I'm the One." "I'm the one is the shit by the way.

  • I love that song too

  • @produccionesmiranejo The whole thing reminds me of IM THE ONE , its very reminicent of it , great though

  • first 10 seconds i nuted twice lmao!!!

  • Comment removed

  • wow i think the first 10 sek ARE AWSOME! :)

  • the first 10 seconds are TERRIFYING!!!

  • what a beast

  • PG is so over the top, both "writing" and "playing" this song :)

  • Very amazing

  • One of my fave PG tracks ! Check the X2N pickup haha

  • simplemente la cagada...

  • Paul is incredible. Also Billy (of course). But Pat Torpey has incredible drumming..

Check out the colorado bulldog bass and drums version. MINDBLOWING!!!!!!!

  • I'm not a fan of this kind of music at all but the solo at :32 is absolutely glorious.

  • YES! sounded so jazzish

  • Wicked!

    Gibson?

  • Ibanez '79

  • wow sick playing

  • MR BIG rocks..!!!!!!!!!!!!!! \m/

  • Paul is amazing, but check out Billiy's bass line on this song.

    Badass !!!

  • jazz bass line!

  • @bloodpollution

His greatest bassline is imo in Addicted to that Rush!!

  • @bloodpollution Yeah, Billy got that walking bass line down well. Must have studied a lot of jazz (As all bassists should.)

  • no chops!

    jk

  • DuuuDe is that perfect tequnique?????? !!!!!!

    omg.

  • I am not a guitar player so I don't claim to know much technically. I do know that I like listening to Paul and like watching him play and that is all that matters to me. I wish I was that good.

  • one of my favorite mr.big songs

    bring back the old school!

  • 背景のセンスは如何なるものか

  • My fingers are cocktail weiners compared to his...

  • The length of his fingers is freaking me out. His pinky is probably longer than my middle finger which might explain why I can't play this song.

  • i have long fingers like paul. i dont really think it helps that much. if anything i think its a disadvantage

  • i think your right too. its like the first joint after your knuckle is weaker and can curve the wrong way slightly cuz its so fricking long. its only a problem with my pinky and a minor problem at that. doesnt hinder that much.

  • true it just means i have to constantly shift my hand position from a 'paul gilbert' style, for picking, to a 'classical' position for legato

  • I have no idea what your talking about. Having bigger hands is so useful especially when it comes to bass and the frets being monsters

  • Dude its a major advantage, i cant even play some of his stuff cause i cant reach.

  • Your hand stretches through playing though, that's why John 5's left hand is way bigger than his right.

  • I always comment on vids here and also try to explain to people I know just how long Gilbert's pinky is and they don't believe me.

He's way more talented than I'll ever be but if I had a pinky that long, or really all my fingers the same length I could play more of the things I wanted to.

  • if you want to play better.... work harder. its that simple.

i dont agree with the whole pinky thing people go on about. if you lock yourself in your room and play scales and practice for 12 hours a day, you would reach gilberts level in no time.

  • thats what we all should do lol. zakk wylde said when he was a kid in highschool he would play guitar from the time he got off of school and stay up all night playing until school started the next day and just sllep during school lol

  • Regardless of skill level, you can't deny that his pinky finger is freakishly long.

  • But what are you going to do with the electric guitar that already hasn't been done? Yeah you'd reach gilberts level possibly (although you need the aural and mental natural capacity), but Gilbert and others have gotten there first... about 20 years ago.

  • Theres plenty to do with the electric guitar. Check out Marc Ribot. Ok you might not like his style but he surely has his own way of playing

  • We could go over what they achieve

'Standing on the shoulders of giants'

Look at Hendrix's time, he was very innovated then shred guitars brought speed to an other level, who knows if mine or the next generations will topple the last.

  • The problem is if you physically start to go faster the notes blend and your brain can't tell the difference. There are physical laws involved and on top of that the electric guitar is now an old instrument. In Hendrix's time the electric guitar was a new instrument. Why are there no breakthrough violinists now?

  • Very very excellent point. Maybe because the violin isn't as accessible and affordable as an electric not to mention as popular. We truly won't know until 10 years or even more from now. Maybe if we found shredders who didnt just play Am7 and Em7 sweeps and play Phrygian minor modes. Thank you Yngwie Malmsteen

  • Somones gotta keep the legacy going. When theyre all gone whos going to keep it up? buddy, once youre that good, youre going to have your own style just as good.

  • people just need to break out of the box. i mean, look at players like alexi laiho. people just have to be original and get better (which is entirely possible). for a lot of bands, the guitarists are too dumb to think of anything original, and either use a shitload of effects, or the worn out technique of sweep, tap, and repeat. as long as people dont keep relentlessly doing that, guitar will always keep advancing.

  • That's the thing though. When I listen to him I don't think he's breaking out of the box. It's a lot of old techniques with more gain and a heavier backing sound. It sounds awesome but I can't put him in the same category as other shredders. A lot of his songs are composed not dependent on the solo's and pure guitar work. I thought Dimebag was the last one to really push it with his use of the tremolo.

  • thats agreeable

  • jesus christ!!! i heard this alexi laiho...he is awfully terrible!!! he plays guitar like shitttt!!!!!! paul is technical without being boring and very creative... kotzen also does... and for sure dimebag was a style of his own... but i dont know whatafuck this alexi laiho is doing out there??!!!! When I saw this video of him playn some arpegios I thought it was some joke!!!!!

  • dude..... you're an IDIOT. you need to shut the fuck up right now. alexi is well known for his talent. if you seriously think he sucks then you're clearly: 1, not a musician (or if you are you're a bad one). 2, an asshole. 3, a complete dipshit. 5, even more-so if you didnt notice that there was no 4

  • LOL!

    fucking TOLD

    bitch.

  • He won the prize shredder of the year

  • that pentatonic intro lick is freakin insane!

  • I heard his watch was specially designed for pulling in excess of 9000G.

  • he's so far ahead of every other guitar player, he cn play so many styles, make it sound so clean, so melodic and doesnt over do playing fast and technical

  • paul gilbert is a guitarist who can play any song in any category.. from a to z

  • WHAT A BADASS!!!

  • tem q mandar todos esses cabeludos filhos das putas..!

  • i'm almost positive the intro lick is not paul's writing.. i know he's really versatile, but it doesnt scream "PAUL GILBERT!" like the rest of his playing.

  • It is. If you don't think so you haven't heard enough Paul Gilbert.

  • It's just descending sixes, that's all.

He made it, but got the Idea of the descending stuff from Shawn Lane.

  • you're probably right, it just didnt have that regular "holy shit it's paul gilbert" thing about it. cause he got the idea of the technical difficulties lick from EVH but even then it still had his own feel.

  • this guy was just born to play guitar

  • well the variety makes paul better then yngwie,as much as i love yngwie he plays only clasical stuff most of the time and he doesnt know shit about allround guitarist,he doesnt know bands like saxon megadeth tallica etc.

  • For some reason Paul Gilbert reminds me of 80's shredders. Oh yeah, forgot to mention.

    HIS LIL' FINGERS AN ANDROID!

  • ポールの演奏は本人が楽しそうだからいいよね。大好きだわ。

(His performance is loved because it seems to be very happy.)

  • when Paul Gilbert was young he accidentally dipped his pinky in a vat of toxic waste making him have a huge ass pinky.

  • fucking long finger!!!!

  • THE PINKY ITSELF HAS A BRAIN!

  • That pinky's just a mutant.

  • Paul .."the six million dollar hand"

H eknows how to shred and still keep the rock sound...just the right balance.

  • sponge

  • he deserves a spoge bath

  • what does that even mean???

  • I think it's just a bad translation. Could mean...

"I love Paul's playing because you can tell he's having fun."

    Maybe...

  • does it matter?

  • NO CHOPS!!!!! ha ha

    ;P

  • paul lives my dream life.

    Signed deal with Ibanez

A crap load of guitars to play with

    Bionic hands

    Hot asian wife

  • LAMO @ hot asian wife :D

  • I wonder if his pinky is real...

  • his pinky is a robot

  • yeah it's very coordinted with the rest of his fingers, many but many guitar players can't use the pinky as fast as he does, offcourse they can use it but not as fast as their other 3 fingers and some players are still up pauls skill but paul is a diffrent guitarist not a copy, still there are guitarist that play diffrent but equally awesome like jeff loomis.

  • Oh my god that is the biggest crap I have ever read. Go get yourself a girl because you are depressed.

  • hahah dumbest youtube comment ever!

  • you crazy cracker. more practice equals more out sure, but not everyone could be a paul gilbert. some people have the feel, some people don't, no matter how much technique you have. michael angelo is one of the best technically i've seen, but in my eyes hes not god, as he rarely plays melodic and is shredding 97% of the time

  • 97% of the time is a bit of an understatement

  • sorry man, but the truth is.....MOST people could practice the rest of their lives and still not have his facility.

Further....every great player has put in hours of practice time.

  • It's hard to to see, but he really has seven fingers on his left hand...

  • hahahahahh

    Now that you say it

    I think he does

    lol

  • born to play guitar...

  • paul is a guitar god...i want to be as good as him ya know...he really rocks..

  • paul gilbert is much better that malmsteen but that doesnt mean malmsteen hjas no feeling , malmsteen is a fucking genious

  • God i would die for a pinky as long as his lol

  • paul has everything. looks, money, and skills. i envy him

  • he built his skill and he made his money

  • and a japanese wife ;)

  • who is teh hotness. gilbert is a lucky bastard. hahah.

  • paul gilbert is good. yngwie is good. you can't compare the two, they each are good in their own ways, yet different. but i prefer to listen to paul, not the classical kinda guy, so yngwie is my style. plus i like paul instruction. nobody teaches like he does.

p.s. yngwie's music has feeling, in the same regard as bach or mozart's music had feeling.

  • I wish Paul Gilbert was on my guitar playing menu 20 years ago. His playing is awesome and he is so nice to teach people how to play.

My god was EVH and damn that guy for going into isolation after every riff and never really giving anything to his fans except for some expensive toys "he designed" and I bought 'em as well as the records. Truth is the records and the toys are great... but what Gilbert gives people are far beyond great.

  • if compared with PG,slash is nothing. PG is combination between Yngwye and Steve Vay

  • I don't like you comparing PG to Yngwie. Yngwie is a chubby, cocky kid who can shred, but doesn't even know the word rhythm or feeling.

  • Malmsteen is all about cramming as many notes as possible in a song as fast as possible. Whether the notes make sense sounds like is hardly considered. It's almost like he's unable to hold a note for anything over 0.1 second. That + his claims of being the fastest guitarist make him a no-go for me. Anyone has a right to an own opinion though.

  • that chinese bitch does a fucking perfect job

  • Slash and PG are totally different players. If your gonna compare anyone with PG, compare him with someone like Steve Vai or Joe Satriani

  • dude people need to stop comparing slash(of all people) to PG.. I like them both but i like paul more.. ppl need to stop saying that a player is BETTER than another player just cuz they like him/her better but 1 thing is for sure: in speed PG totally outdoes slash! but slash has nice rythm and such..

  • but PG is flat out better anyway coz he uses a lot more techniques and doesnt only play in pentatonic. of course, PG's speed is a lot more impressive than slash's

  • I think the main point is that there is nothing that slash could play that Gilbert couldn't play prerfectly, but slash would struggle with a lot of pauls stuff. PG really is awesome, he even intimidates satch, now thats tough!

  • just to clarify though, i think the initial point made by Emil315 is the correct attitude

  • Paul's a big user of Pentatonics.

  • agree

i think that we don't have the best guitar player in the world today.....we have lot's of guitar players that play diferent styles....but it's hard to choose the best.... PG is awsome....Slash, Nuno Bettencourt, Malmsteen,Kiko Loureiro...they are all great guitars players....but i don't like Malmsteen for exemple....but, he is a great guitar player

  • 1:53

    hahahah he's always so funny

he makes funny faces in his solos

  • Slash is good but not as Paul Gilbert.

  • yeah, something along the lines of "man, remember that hack with the hat?"

  • damn...this is my first song i'm learning to learn how to shred...any comments on this? bad idea?

  • start out smaller, trust me. listen to a lot of solos from the scorpions and try those out first. they're very easy, but they helped me come up to this level. also try some steve vai and joe satriani, they help out a lot too. once you get them down, move on up to yngwie malmsteen, ron thal, michael angelo batio, jason becker, etc. here are some pretty good songs to listen to: blue, and far beyond the sun by yngwie; no boundaries by michael, and eugene's trick bag by steve for starters.

  • words cannot describe this

  • why are people talking about slash on a paul gilbert video? theres no comparison...slash is a faggot

  • yes he is

  • slash is only famous because guns n roses was famous. paul gilbert is famous because he is a good guitarist...

  • better?

    better for who?

  • gilbert is much better than slash

  • slash is the most overrated player ever, gilbert is all about the song, he can just play like the devil

  • no buckethead is a dude named brian carroll

  • no he's a "true guitarist" cuz he CAN'T play sweeps and speed picking his fast playing is 99% legato and on top of that not very good legato

let me ask you something how many good solos can u say slash has??? just answer me that

  • Ahh nope. The reason his stiff sounds so PICK-ATTACKISH seems to bue due to the massive amount of PICKING he does...

  • ???

  • ???

  • paul doing too much picking?? are you makin' us laugh?!! LOL

his legato is like time warp and it's very much part of paul's style

  • The uneducated invigorate me. I was responding to the poorly poorly worded comment by gl5027. Since there is no direct object, as well as some massive run-on occuring, I was assuming that he was saying that Paul Gilbert was in fact the taget of the attack. If you look at my channel, it will become instantly apparent that Paul Gilbert is my favorite guitarist. Sorry for the misinterpretation...

  • paul gilbert is my favorite guitarist too! but dont bother checking outmy channel as i havent bothered with doing anything since my last 1 was deleted *sigh*

  • Just...blow my mind

  • Fucking Insane

  • buckethead reminds me of paul if you look at there playing style
