My mom used to sing this to me as a kid. Always makes me cry. She passed away after a battle with cancer a few months ago. This was sung in the church. The emotion was unreal. Ghastly, absolutely ghastly! Screeches out the high notes and blasts out the rest. Go listen to Kiri Te Kanawa to hear how this should be sung. This is an expressive song, a heartfelt prayer, a supplication. Don't attempt it till you practice it - this is not a rousing song to wake the dead! And lose some weight before showing your overweight figure to the public. So young and yet fat!
I am not at all fond of her singing and I would agree that this is "ghastly", but don't bring her weight into this - there's enough pressure in the media nowadays for unhealthy thinness

Personally, I think she needs to keep her mouth open in a more "o" shape. That's what my instructor tells me, at least. But there is no denying that she is truly and AMAZING singer.
She has good support when she thinks about it, mainly only on the sustained notes. If she didn't keep her vowels horizontal the whole time this would be absolutely phenomenal. The high A is beautiful. (:

@IIIEX7R3M3III I don't think she had a horrible voice. It was a nice one, but not made for classical music in my opinion. Her technique was very poor. She brought a lot of people to appreciate classical music and I am grateful to her for that. She's not my cup of tea though. I am more a fan of Kathleen Battle, Sumi Jo, Beverly Sills, Diana Damrau, Renee Fleming, etc. Are you an opera fan as well? :)

@Tktter Actually, I dont think she's turned out bad at all. She did some drinkin but no more than most other teenagers really. Considering her level of fame at a young age, it seems to me she's grown up to be a quite down to earth, normal lass. She never became stick thin, or behaved in a diva way. This is crazy. I just finished watching Charlotte Church sing The Prayer with Josh Groban. I only say it's crazy because I watched this video when it aired on TV. I was 7 years old. All I can remember is my parents calling me into the room saying "get in here! Listen to her voice!" About 3 years later I saw her, Julie Andrews, and Christopher Plummer in concert. Now, remembering when Josh Groban first started, it's crazy to look back at all this and just think, "wow, I was just a child back then

Listen to Schubert's original piece, and Luciano Pavarotti's performance in the 1994 Three Tenors concert are much better than this. She is super talented though! Beautiful voice.
I really cannot stand her voice. I thought maybe it would have grown me after having studied singing for longer, but no. It's not even just her technical issues, it's just the sound in general. And she is not always on pitch. I don't understand how so many people become so famous for singing when they cannot even get the notes right all the time. Each to their own I guess!

i believe she is about losing her voice due to incorrect singing, but she is a beautiful girl with rich parents, she can afford presenting herself to the world, but i don't want to disappoint her, she needs to change things to be able to sing further, sorry, that is my advise and opinion
she has a good voice and overall the performance is very nice, but her singing is a bit off sometimes. I think it is due to certain vocals she hasn't mastered technically, which might not necessarily diminish the performance as a whole, but one can definitely hear she hits certain notes a tiny bit below where they should be. but I like her style. it is difficult to sing soprano parts and remain cliche-free, natural, I speak from experience. she has done a good job.
This song brings me a lot of peace. It makes me forget the sadness and problems in my life. I like it so much.

@IIIEX7R3M3III I don't think she had a horrible voice. It was a nice one, but not made for classical music in my opinion. Her technique was very poor. She brought a lot of people to appreciate classical music and I am grateful to her for that. She's not my cup of tea though. I am more a fan of Kathleen Battle, Sumi Jo, Beverly Sills, Diana Damrau, Renee Fleming, etc. Are you an opera fan as well? :)

@Tktter Actually, I dont think she's turned out bad at all. She did some drinkin but no more than most other teenagers really. Considering her level of fame at a young age, it seems to me she's grown up to be a quite down to earth, normal lass. She never became stick thin, or behaved in a diva way. She has put her career on the back burner so she can be a good mother. She seems sound

This is crazy. I just finished watching Charlotte Church sing The Prayer with Josh Groban. I only say it's crazy because I watched this video when it aired on TV. I was 7 years old. All I can remember is my parents calling me into the room saying "get in here! Listen to her voice!" About 3 years later I saw her, Julie Andrews, and Christopher Plummer in concert. Now, remembering when Josh Groban first started, it's crazy to look back at all this and just think, "wow, I was just a child back then

OH.My.God. I love this girl <3 I was mesmerised the whole way through. and when she hits the high A @ 2:12 well, I'm not ashamed at all that I had to wipe a tear from my eye. I've said it a million times, there is no more beautiful sound on earth than that of the female voice in song.

Listen to Schubert's original piece, and Luciano Pavarotti's performance in the 1994 Three Tenors concert are much better than this. She is super talented though! Beautiful voice.

I really cannot stand her voice. I thought maybe it would have grown me after having studied singing for longer, but no. It's not even just her technical issues, it's just the sound in general. And she is not always on pitch. I don't understand how so many people become so famous for singing when they cannot even get the notes right all the time. Each to their own I guess!

@c00per69 But it shouldn't be just one aspect of the performance that people go "wow" about. It should be the whole package. Her technique was not up to it, she should not have been singing songs like that at her age. Emotion is not everything, although it is very important.

You have made some keen observations regarding the singer's delivery, and projections ( stage ), but, I can not judge, whether or not the level of their commitment to the psalms is on the same level as there talents are, or as you say,at this stage of their careers. But, i can and will say that Jackie Evancho, lacks nothing, as far as, her audience is concerned when she sings to them. The world audience has remarked that she is more like the opera diva, Maria Callus !!! NOT Ms. Church.

@MrJeffreydunson Jackie Evancho, while a precocious singing talent, can't come even close to the purity of Charlotte Church's voice at this stage in her (Charlotte's) career; and certainly lacks the depth of emotion and commitment to this psalm that is so obvious as you watch Charlotte's eyes, her gaze, the glow of her face. Charlotte is singing to God; Jackie is singing to an audience.

i believe she is about losing her voice due to incorrect singing, but she is a beautiful girl with rich parents, she can afford presenting herself to the world, but i don't want to disappoint her, she needs to change things to be able to sing further, sorry, that is my advise and opinion

she has a good voice and overall the performance is very nice, but her singing is a bit off sometimes. I think it is due to certain vocals she hasn't mastered technically, which might not necessarily diminish the performance as a whole, but one can definitely hear she hits certain notes a tiny bit below where they should be. but I like her style. it is difficult to sing soprano parts and remain cliche-free, natural, I speak from experience. she has done a good job.
