I always enjoyed Orr's voice on the various Cars albums and his solo work. These unreleased songs are great, and showcase how different his personal song style is from Ocasek's. I think the contarst is what helped make the Cars so interesting and successful. I really like the new Cars album "Move Like This", but definitely missed hearing Orr's voice on it. IMO, track 8 "Take another Look", in particular seems like it would have been sung by Orr.
I was always a fan of The Cars, I burned through at least 6 cassettes of Candy-O. I admit I never really developed an appreciation for Benjamin Orr until he released his solo album The Lace. Once I heard that, I fully understood where the magic of the Cars truly came from. Rest in peace Ben, I miss your music.
@UnavailableUserID i always knew it was Ben behind the success, hell he was the voice behind some of their greatest hits and other loved songs, including Just What I Needed, All Mixed Up, Moving in Stereo, Candyo, All i Can Do, Dont go to Pieces, Running to you. There would have never been The CARS without Benjamin Orr
No music today is made with such finesse and artistry. Peter Murphy, Bryan Ferry, Kate Bush, Peter Gabriel.. Nothing today can touch the heights of music and creativity that people like this reached in the 80's and very early 90's.
Watching The Cars 2011 on Jimmy Fallon was great but so wish Ric had not chose to sing "Lets Go" (Ben's song) to please Mr. Fallon. What made it worse was Ric staring at the telepromptor for lyrics. He should have insisted on a "Ric sung classic Cars tune." I mave meant to order the new Cars LP Move Like This....being a true fan but I'm fearing will be greatly disappointed in it. On a positive note I am looking forward to the June release by THE OUTFIELD
I just heard the Cars new album, then did a search on Ben and found this and a bunch of other songs he did that were never released. The Cars are infinitely less of a band without Ben...it's painfully obvious on their new Album "Move Like This". Ric should have let Ben write some of the songs while he was still alive. It would have provided a fresh dynamic and direction that is sorely lacking in the Cars last 4 albums, including this new album. Thanks so much for posting these wonderful songs!!
I get a tears in my eyes every time I hear this song. There is just something about it... Wish I had a copy. Thank you for posting it, I watch it often.
It is bewildering. But it is hard to know how to go about trying to get them released. Does a record company hold the rights, or is it just too complicated because two of the musicians have passed away (Orr and Kalishes)? We need the insights of an insider ... Even Angels Fall would be a great single, I can even imagine it being sampled/remixed as a dance track. Or would that be sacrilegious?
This is probably getting repetitious Slance, but I was wondering whether you know if/when these unreleased Orr songs will be published? I really like the songs, but would prefer to purchase released versions given that he left a child behind and that he set up a foundation to support cancer research, its possible that he may have wished the songs to raise money for both. Im curious as to why the family/record company havent already released them, even if it was simply an iTunes release.
@stonerose1989 Hi! Did Ben really set up a fund for cancer reseach? If so, do you know if it was for Cancer research in general or pancreatic cancer research? Either way, being a cancer victim myself (five years ago, metastatic breast cancer), I am so touched by everything Ben did. He smiled at me during a concert-was one of the highlights of my life and will always remember those blue eyes :)
@cocatwoman7 I believe it was for pancreatic cancer research - the Benjamin Orr Memorial Fund - but the gurus from the Benjamin Orr Legacy might know more, they seem to cruise these pages every now and then. Cancer is a devastating disease, but more people (like yourself) survive today than in previous decades because of research. He definitely did a wonderful thing - trying to prevent others from suffering the disease that he knew was going to kill him.
Sad. I didn't even know when he died. I heard about it a year later. He was my absolute favorite in the 80's. I loved him. I'm so thankful I did get to meet him once...briefly, but it meant a lot to me at the time.
agreed...strange feeling knowing I love so much of his stuff... and can't stand anything out there now...this is beautiful.....makes me sad tho even teary eyed.
@whitewitch8 Ditto, nothing today is any good.I always get teary eyed when I play this song, and yes, Angels really do fall......................cancer is horrible as Ben and I both know :(
They're just insanely rare, you can get them somehow i think, but, anyway, I can e-mail you them, just message me your e-mail address and names of songs you want me to send
Someone told me that actor James Marsters, a huge fan of The Cars, has heard these songs on youtube and wants to record them. I don't really know if I believe it or not.... it would be strange to have "Spike" covering Mr. Orr
I just don't know if he could pull it off. Maybe....
Thanks again Slance1. You have turned me into a youtube addict. I go on every night just so I can here all of these CARS and Benjamin Orr songs. I love it! These songs are amazing. I only wish that I could buy these unreleased Ben Orr songs. Keep on doing what you're doing and thank you for these gifs that keep on giving.
To a fellow CARS FAN...Thank you again, Slance, for posting these..I listen to them literally every night while I am working!!!! The CARS FOREVER, bud!!!!!
Good thing I haven't deleted them huh? A lot of people said that it's illegal to post these songs and they have to be deleted... Well I want for people like you enjoy them :)
this guy is one of the best musicians ive ever seen, is such a shame that in my country brazil, people don't even listened to stay the night or worst, they don know who is this guy
