I believe there were mail ring-necked ducks in the area that day but no canvas backs - that helped with the id for me. Thanks for the comments of this video.
I spend over 100 days a year in the field, I've hunted waterfowl for a long time. To me this looks like a can hen. Very disctinct head shape, and it's missing the white cheek bar in front of the bill that ringer hens have...like I said, either way cool vid.

Alright, so this bugged me a bit, so I did take a closer look and I'll admit I was wrong, it does look like a ringer hen.

I don't agree - check the markings on the bill - there is a band - ring neck hen has one but canvas back does not!
