Never thought I'd say it, but Bush appears to have more brains than Cheney. Rather than trying to redeem his pathetic record for the sake of his ego by giving interviews badmouthing the new guy, Bush understands that he has to shut up and disappear ASAP, so the public can forget about him if the Republicans ever want to get back into power. Cheney doesn't seem to get that.

Obama knew what he was getting into when he ran for office. His we're doing the - best that we can, but the last guy made a mess - is just soft shoe. But he did show a tendency for slight of hand oratory during his run for office.
It took both parties to dance this tango, all the way back to '04 when the dollar started to weaken.

Surplus. If memory serves, When clinton was in his last days in office it was predicted that if the economy stayed as it was, and if spending was controled we would be in a surplus sometime in this current decade.
When the house heard this they started trying to spend the surplus. Then the tech bubble burst, and Al Quaida did some redecorating.
So though Gov. was SNAFU. I don't remember any surplus, nor does it have anything to do with a recession.

A true Democracy would require a vote of everyone on EVERY SINGLE ISSUE. From Wars to traffic fines.
A Republic (as we have instituted it) allows for the people to choose their leaders and then trust their leaders to make the nitty-gritty decisions, the majority of which are menial (such as traffic fines).

No China is a government unto itself. "Officially" they are considered Communistic, but they really don't fit the official communist mold (as compared to the Soviet Union).
However, the United States is considered a Republic because of our system of electing Representatives.
Perhaps I should have said we are a Democratic-Republic, in that we freely choose our own Representatives (I'm not just speaking of President, but Congressional leaders as well, House and Senate).
