  • Hi, y have a gravity car of 3 weels, and l want to make one with 4 weels.

I want to know wat is the piece that tey links the weel with the chasis. Thankiou.

    If I don't write well is because I'm spanish.sorry

  • @titi97riti that would be the axle. In my case it's a round bar turned to precisely fit the inside of the bearings. At the front it's welded to the kingpins, at the rear bolted to the bracket that mounts to the trailing arms.

  • When you do race with AIGRF, please be sure to get footage. Really keen to see you rolling.

  • Excellent! But far away from the most seen "soapboxes", the frame works is airplane technology and the suspension high-end car technology!!!

  • In the steering rack , put ! On the ropes is dangerous!

  • nice

  • Are you going to race this cart? If so where, as like you we use motorbike wheels but the BMX wheel is faster off the line due to the weight of the wheel. I feel you may want to put brakes on the front as I have rear breaks only and will not be racing that way this year I am adding front breaks after an incident at the switch at Cairngorm soapbox extreme.

  • @roadrunner9115 Yes, I plan to do a run with the AIGRF soon (google it - they have some great videos!). Must admit I'm pretty nervous about how little brakes it has, though in testing I found I could stop quickly if I spun it! I'm hoping that the smooth steering and suspension will isolate me from the worst of what the road might throw at me.

  • thanks for the info and i see wt u meen im 17 and thought it was a good idea to rag a old pedal tractor down a hill and there on go kart stering and like u say verry twichy lol but god we had some fun that day

  • veey good but not sure about stering why not the old go kart style

  • @hambon2k10 Because a simple Pitman Arm as used in karts has two problems - very limited movement and what movement there is is geared too high, making the vehicle very twitchy (which is OK for karts). For smooth and progressive steering with plenty of turn you need something linear like a rack and pinion but they are hard to make, so this does the same job but you can make it yourself for pennies.

  • Great job! What are the dimensions of the chassis frame L x W x H?

  • @willespi frame dimensions are 1210 x 840 x 440mm to give wheelbase 1270, wheel track 940. With body it comes in at about 1m wide x 2m long x 0.5m high.

  • how much for the car?

  • @patxidekds I don't know because most of the materials are recycled or surplus stock. Wheels were $17 each, tyres about $20 each which are the most expensive items we bought. The steel would be about $6 per metre if bought new. Ali sheet is about $80 a large sheet, but again this was obtained as surplus stock. The body is built mostly from plywood from a packing crate.

  • @GRAHAMAUS where is now the car?

  • nice job.

  • im thinking of doing my 8th grade project on gravity racing and was wondering what something like this would go for?

  • Very good this is fantastic but more gentle deve suspencion ok. Here are some tips.

Yes, do not be angry. Ok good bye

  • where can i get wheels?

  • @SuperRazman123 Our wheels are 12" alloys from a scooter. We bought these direct from the chinese manufacturer, which took some working out about payment, but they were dirt cheap. But you could probably find them from a scrap (junk) yard. Turned out the stock wheels were not ideal as they were designed to mount between forks on a spindle, but we remachined them to bolt onto a custom-made hub/bearing unit.

  • where can i get one of those seats???

  • @sk8boyluis I got that one off eBay, I believe it's from a standard racing go-kart.

  • That's a very nice piece of work...Thank your for sharing your experience!!!

  • excellent job.

  • estimated cost on this kart?

  • @Martin18674 Tie rods were fabricated from scratch. They're just 13mm steel bar (RHS) with some threads welded into the ends.

  • @Martin18674 Tyres and wheels are (electric) scooter items.

  • @Martin18674 It's a normal go-kart steering wheel but I made up a centre boss for it which looks nicer and gave me some lathe practice :)

  • hey, it was good to watch your video from an engineering viewpoint but also...what's the song? it's good!

  • @nwhm20 First song is The Jezabels "Sahara Mahala" and the second is Goldfrapp "Clowns".

  • Hi, I really like your go kart and the best part that I liked was the steering design and also I'm wondering why didn't you put an engine or a motor it would be more intresting to be driven.

  • @Martin18674 Well, you have to appreciate the amount of 'scope creep' there has been since we decided to build a gravity racer! We are now thinking it might end up with a motor, but it will require a bit of rework (like better brakes).

  • Sweet ride, looking forward to seeing the finished project.
