The sirens were shut down around 3A.M. Denny's was packed with tourists so we went to The Pine Tree Cafe(junk version of the Kay's kitchen epic grinds). The cops had Ali'i Drive shut down so we couldn't go to Durty Jakes for a Bloody Mary and the nature show. That would've been the best.
Mind you so far all the videos I've seen of the tsunami are filmed by tourists. The locals are no where in sight. Obviously this guy didnt get the hint! lol By the way, I am from Kona. :)
damn, you were really brave to go there, a tsunami is really dangerous and you could get hurt...i still can't believe how people stay there waiting for the tsunami
@2437Lizzie1 Thats how me and my cousins were haha. we live in hawaii and it was a school night and i could NOT go to bed with the horns going off but thank god we didn't have any school the next day :P
it's easy to say these people are dumb for standing there
but i know that if the sea would retreat it would be very hard to stop myself from running after it. and i would love to know what it would be like when it all comes back.
but when it returns you should already have left because there's no running from a tsunami strike when it reaches your feet
The amateur videos of the Kailua-Kona waterfront in the early morning during the tsunami are very interesting, but it's also disturbing to see how many people were in the area actually standing on the seawall as this was going on, exposed to danger and possible injury.
Nice job documenting it. A tragic moment in history. My heart goes out to Japan and all other people, fish, birds and animals that have been affected by this. I hope the store owners on Alii have insurance and aren't wiped out too much. Kona is my favorite place in the world.
You're so brave, thanks for sharing video, awesome. I think I would of been too scared to get video of that, lol ide be heading for the high ground.

Probably the best example of how the waves come in and recede quickly.

Wow, smart. The bottom of the sea your beach lies on to just lifted up and created a tsunami wave! Lets go to the beach!

I agree with MeliJackson. It's best to not film it, and just evacuate. I'm not saying the video is bad but be careful!

Excellent video, unlike many here on YouTube which show nothing except imaginations. The water truly moves extremely fast in and out of the cay.
