Actually the ground clearance is the biggest downfall. My Rav4 goes great. Mastercraft HSX tires are excellent as well. They do so well on my 07 Rav4 that my mother n law put the same tire on her 07 4Runner. We got a nice snow with some ice just this past weekend and we both went with no problems :)
Does that have 4x4 and traction control? Also what are the tires? I've bbeen through much bigger snow with no problem with 4x25 cm wide tires 4x4 and traction 2.0 d4d engine :)

rav4 is an awd corolla ... if u want toyota off road buy an FJ cruiser. factory with locking diffs... actually the tacoma has lock rear diff as well... also bigger tires and a lift would of helped alot with this ...

I agree with you about the Hilux i really do. My boss has an Hilux but with an diesel engine in it. Dont know how many liters but still its kinda nice.

I think it was a Honda cr-v they test at the same time as the Volvo. They just put the Honda on RPMs and it flew over the wet snow and up on a pretty high hill.
No they don't. Toyota makes excellent cars but the RAV4 AWD system is not a good one. Try driving in deep snow with, stopping and then try driving away again. Toyota's AWD system doesn't send enough power to the rears to get you going again. They're good for the average person to give more grip in light snow but that's about it. You want a good AWD drive system get a Jeep, Subaru, BMW, VW, Audi.
Lack of power isn't what gets you stuck. What matters is the ground clearance, wheel articulation, the length of the car, approach/departure angles, traction aids (TC and/or locking/limited-slip differentials), etc. Volvo is a grocery getter - it was never designed to conquer the great outdoors. Toyota, on the other hand, is more focused on making their cars off-road capable than other manufacturers.

ciao, io mi trovo bene a guidarlo sulla neve, non da mai risposte brusche, ovviamente devi avere un minimo di esperienza per guidare bene in condizioni difficili (ma sempre in sicurezza). l'importante sono le gomme, fanno veramente la differenza, monta quelle termiche e ti ritrovi con la macchina incollata per terra.
adesso ognuno potrà scrivere quello che vuole, in caso di commenti negativi mi deve rispondere con un video dove riesce con un rav4 ad uscire da 30 di neve ghiacciata senza far pattinare neanche una gomma, allora potrò dire va bene sono un "bad driver"...

Why ?
Toyota make good awd cars on the market. For example Volvo XC90 sucks. To big and small engine = You get stuck.

True a new BMW is not cheap. You pick up a used one only a few years old with low miles for a very reasonable price though.
The Jeep would cheaper. The Subaru about the same. The VW about the same and AUDI would be more expensive.
