Nifty idea building "Frameless" but knowing my lard butt, ill need a nice steel frame to support me. If working carbon fibre were cheaper and more forgiving, and i had a great local mentor i would be all down on this for my future build.
The Bricycle prototype is powered by a Crystalyte 404 hub motor with a 16" rim, pedals for a backup. It is made almost entirely of 1/8" marine plywood covered with fiberglass and has no frame. The front fork assembly and rear suspension are bonded to the wood structure. I have logged more than 1000 miles on the prototype and have has only one structural failure which loosened the front fork carrier but the Bricycle was still able to make it home. I have reached 38 mph on the flat.
we got the general idea that since it has wheels it will roll. how about some info about what powers it, what's the construction like, is it pedalled or electric, is is home made and if so from what? you know, answers that quell curiosity.
I have a Mini 40 Mile Busettii bike and it runs 50-55 miles on one battery charge. I also tried my friends Vortex Mountain bike by Busettii. It ROCKS ! Can get up to 32 mph top speed, and on one charge that bike set the new record of 86 miles. Hope it becomes a big hit. In California many people like Busettii because they cost around $1700 but can go 50--86 miles on one charge depending on model. Maria in Cali

The wheel configuration doesn't matter, it's all about how you style the body. But blunt side up front??? The narrow front end going wider to the back is the best aerodynamics. It's fine the way it is.
Look at a fish. The blunt part is upfront, the long slender part is at the rear. There's a reason for that. Unless yours is just styled, not intended to maximize range....
Two wheels up front, and slender at the back is the way to make it.
Ohio law does not require a "bike" to be made of a particular material. The structure of my prototype is 3mm marine plywood covered with one layer of fiberglass cloth. I have logged over 300 miles since last September, driven when the temp was 12 degrees F, and today 91 degrees, I have has no structural problems.
thats nice to hear....others spend a lot of effort in their projects just to find out in the end thats its not road legal........nice color and body style :) good luck!!!!!!!!
I'm currently making a velomobile. One of my concerns is sideways visibility when emerging from a side turning where visibility is restricted by obstructions. This is especially serious for recumbents and velomobiles, because the front / nose is so far forward of the pilot's head.
I am opting for a homemade daylight visible nose strobe with two high power star LEDS one 360 degree side emitter and a lambertian emitter, mounted in a landrover side light.
A very attractive vehicle. But I would need to be convinced that the slab-sides won't lead to instability in side-winds, or that the protruding enclosures for the rear wheels are aerodynamic.
Aerodynamics make or break such vehicles, otherwise there's a device called a bicycle. Of course velomobiles offer weather protection and some protection in a crash.
Please don't get me wrong, I believe that we need to ditch the fossil-fuelled car ASAP. Velomobiles may be part of the answer. But I have concerns about this one. Just look at the Quest. The Quest was tested in a wind tunnel, and it looks and rides like it.
The Quest like most velomobiles also has suspension. whereas this one, well it didn't sound like it.

The plywood structure is very strong and I'm certain a glass/ carbon fiber unit would work well. The suspension system is the key.

Man, this thing is awesome! It looks like it's some land transport straight from star wars! :D
15 miles is not that bad on 12Ah, there is absolutely no problem to increase that!
However, that is problably only on the straight?
I think we will see more of this in the future when gas prices even goes further up, Good luck! =)

I don't have a wind tunnel, but I believe the design to be more aerodynamic than a rider on a conventional bicycle.
The spring rates will still need to be determinded for the rear suspension, currently they are very stiff.
The "clunk" heard is the charging jack hitting the floor of a large plywood cello.
beesauer 3 years ago
I imagine the rider's low center of gravity, along with the two wheels in the back keep it pretty steady in side-winds. Is this correct, beesauer?
