I think the police were ok here. Look at the video and imagine your reaction if the woman didn't fall down. To me it looks like a pretty reasonable response - crazy looking walking woman stumbles right into you, you don't know what to make of it, and you give her a pretty mild push away. It wasn't that forceful, she just happened to fall. If someone bumps into you in the downtown eastside, you are probably going to give them a nudge to get them away from you.

@oodalooptodaloo Downtown eastside isn't a fun place. Trust me. I lived in Vancouver for the last 17 years of my life, since I was born. I still don't know my way around Downtown because I avoid it. That's where all the drug dealers are. Simply put, the cop's action was the safest course of action.
@Kawagata I'm a rookie at only 2 years as a Vancouverite, but I think that Downtown Eastside's reputation is worse than it actually is. While it is annoying to be offered drugs and sex constantly, I've found that the people are generally quite friendly and helpful. It may depend on the time of day though, I've never been there late at night. As far as 'poor' urban areas go, I'd guess Downtown Eastside is a relatively peaceful place.

CTV tracked down and interviewed that woman. It seems that she made a move that may have been interpreted as a grab for the constable's gun. According to her, It wasn't intentional, she was trying to push the cops aside and squeeze between them to get by, but her hands came close to the holster of one of the cops. She didn't seem to be holding a grudge, and the incident was mostly sorted out. The civil liberties people are blowing this way out of proportion.

A few months ago there was a raid on a house that was supposed to have a murder suspect living in it (turns out it was the house next door) and police set off a flashbang and fired into the house and shot a 7 year old girl and set her on fire. @Kawagata I'm a rookie at only 2 years as a Vancouverite, but I think that Downtown Eastside's reputation is worse than it actually is. While it is annoying to be offered drugs and sex constantly, I've found that the people are generally quite friendly and helpful. It may depend on the time of day though, I've never been there late at night. As far as 'poor' urban areas go, I'd guess Downtown Eastside is a relatively peaceful place.

Cops are filthy, they waste their time on things like the "war on drugs", and obviously shown in this video, abusing their authority. Clearly these 3 big officers were walking side by side on a crowded sidewalk and refused to share, or move out the way for someone else. The woman was walking on the right side of the sidewalk and the officer deliberatly walked right up to her face and was pissed off that she did not move out of his way because he is so important! He doesn't move for anyone - he owns the sidewalk. Typical thug, bullie, jerk. An officer is paid to serve, protect and keep the public peace. Fire him!!

If every cop was to be held accountable to what they say or think or do, everybody would be on desk duty earning $80,000 per year.

CTV tracked down and interviewed that woman. It seems that she made a move that may have been interpreted as a grab for the constable's gun. According to her, It wasn't intentional, she was trying to push the cops aside and squeeze between them to get by, but her hands came close to the holster of one of the cops. She didn't seem to be holding a grudge, and the incident was mostly sorted out. The civil liberties people are blowing this way out of proportion.

@batlad _ Whether she made a move that was mistook for something else, is irrelevant, since the cops were at FAULT to begin with, by not walking single file in an area with so many pedestrians trying to pass.
The interviewer should ask the cops WHY they are walking in that formation and thereby ASKING for trouble ....when this whole situation COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED !
