  • This is probably an arrangement with augmented orchestration of a violin concerto by another baroque composer, which was a common practice in those days. I would risk to say this one sounds a bit like Stölzel.

  • Once in a (rare) while, I find that even Bach can be a little too... garrulous ;-)

  • Possibly (I know some people are not going to like this ;-), the least inspired of Bach's pieces I have heard. By that I mean rather perfunctory and even a little boring for his standards. I wonder if Bach decided to scrap it himself because he wasn't that happy about it himself. OR the music could be an (augmented) orchestration/arrangement of some other composer's music...

Still, not too shabby, I'd say, but surely not my favorite.

I'd disagree. I think the emotional turnaround that this piece exhibits is rather beautiful. I like the playful little exchange of melodies that the violins and the basso continuo share (as well as the winds) and the fact that this changes from such a happy to a completely dark piece is pretty brilliant. This is one of my favorites of Bach, and I've heard much worse from him.

  • @Samoriah : Well, it sounds better after one year :-) But I've followed the music, score in hand... I still say this is not amongst Bach's best. I remember coming to this piece after listening to dozens of cantatas in a day, and it did struck me as "not as good". Cheers :-)

  • Great Bach! Very beautiful!

    Thank you!
