  • Bharatanatyam is practised and presented all over the world. The world of dance is debted to the great masters who developed this art from its ancient outline form wit life-time dedication to maintaining the highest quality of the art so as to go to the very soul of its viewers. It is also aesthetically beautifully, physically healthy and spiritually elevating simple but demanding art form. Public presentation is great but it is also fit for practice in small groups at home.Thx for the upload.

  • YAY a non-indian bharatanatyam dancer!! me, too :)

great job and I'm liking the choreography

  • it's good but it feels heavy.

  • good..

  • well done....that guy get all the basic step in the dance...good

  • Dance cordination was good. Hope the dancers understood the sahityam.

Costume cordination would have been better. Triple pleated fan is out of fasion and i feel it is too much for a guy. The two girls looked simpler.

  • Fashion? Regarding such an old art form? I feel there shouldn't be any "fashions" there, but each dancer or costume designer or choreographer choosing freely from the many beautiful traditional styles.

  • Dance now days are more to satisfy what the audiance wants and but only the dancer or the artist duty to keep up with the public demand.

No doubt that bharatnatyam is an old art form but look at the world and see how evolution has grown. Even famous dancers and gurus are adjusting according to the growth of the world. A performance should take some consideration for eg: What is the event about, the venue, type of crowd and many more.

I am not talking about the dance style but the costume.

  • Some evolution is positive and should be welcomed, other types not (like commercialization of art etc...) I fully agree that venue, type of event etc... should be taken into account, but of these ones, for the present video, we know almost nothing, so all we can talk about is about dance and costume abstractly. You probably mean that the male dancer should be less conspicuous and the girls more ornate. But then in the animal world... think of the peacock, which after all is India's symbol!

  • I am glad that you agreed to some point but how can we compare the human and the animal kingdom.

A simple good looking male dancer with good posture and dance movements are most welcomed by audiance. Overly dressed may to a point bring out the lasya aspect of the male dancer instead of the tandava aspect.

Though, The info given for this video may be insufficient at least i manage to understand that is was held at a museum perhaps to promote the art.

  • i agree when i read this comment and look at the video. it wouldn't have ocurred to me :-P what do you think of the other triple pleated fan the the sari pallu as middle fan? i kinda like the style. if you want a link to it you can ask me so you can have a look at it :-)

  • Thanks for your feedback. So u totaly agree with me right? By the way, what triple pleated fan are you talking abt? any pics of it?

  • excellent performance . So proud to see our Indian dance in perfection!!!!1

  • amazing angashudda!

  • Is that guy Russian?

  • Yes, but from Latvia.

  • omg he is having the same design of costume i hav coollllll

  • I have watched this countless times, enjoyed it immensely each time...MARVELLOUS performance by all three artists, is all I can say.

  • perfect moves and excellent coordination.great job!

  • Uau!! maravilhoso!!

  • im impressed! very good! but i have a question-is the leading man wearing the trouser portion of a ladies' bharatanatyam costume? ive seen male bharatanatyam dancers before, and their costumes look different then aleksey's. it doesnt take away from how well they danced, but rather im just curious about his outfit. keep up the good work! :)

  • no he isnt.. yes male dancers do wear a different type of costumes but they also wear this.. both are common...

  • ah, ok. that clears the matter up immediately. thank you :)

  • in addition to the comments made by jmcrusader, it also depends on the aesthetics of the dancer. He is very tall and slim, and the triple pleated front works well with him, better than someone else. The colours of his costume also suit his skin tone well, without being garish at all.

Thus personal aesthetics also count. As I read in an online commentary, a good costume does not make a mediocre dancer dance well, but it adds much to the polish of a really good dancer.

  • These three individuals seem very professional, and the movements are so perfectly coordinated. Specially the boy.

You can keep on watching the boys perfect movements.

  • that was really good :)

my only correction would be to pick up feet a little more...but great job

It's good to know that bharatanatyam is appreciated all over the world.

  • awesome performance .. love it .. they are really good ..specially the male dancer .. bravo .. when are you guys gonna perform in malaysia ? hehehehe :-) all the best .. !

  • this thillana is in kalyani, not hindolam.

impressed by the male. posture is good, but more definition (e.g. stiffer arms) would go a long way! all the best to you.

  • Thank You,umi414,for correction!

  • (e.g. stiffer arms)

Agreed. My style is from 1950/60s Kalakshetra in Chennai, then Madras. My teacher's guru was Balasundari, a classmate of the famous Dhananjayans. Crisp, clean lines of adavus contrasting with softer movements of abhinaya make a more enjoyable experience for observers & dancers alike.

    Nick aka tripmonk0

  • If it was Dhananjayan's who groomed the guy, most probably it would have been simpler and the male dancers would have to tie the saree. Belive me and you can ask around too coz i have performed as guest artist for him.

  • They are very good, esp the guy!

  • Oh yes! I read the details! Thank you so much!! God Bless!

  • This is awesome!! Thanks a lot for uploading this video!! Loved it! Could you tel me who thses pple are? They seem well trained..especially the boy!..thanks once agan!

  • Thank you, Rogeeforyou! Our guru are Dmitriy Zmeev from Moscow (Gandharva Mahavidyalaya university) and Pille Roosi from Estonia (Chitra Veshvishwaran school).
