I just talked to my mom and found out they found a letter stating Stringbean was a family member. Sad that himself and Elizabeth lost their lives due to someones greed. I look forward to researching more .......
He should have gotten his pistol out of his pocket and had it in his hand before he went through that door, just like I have done a hundred times, when something seemed suspicious, but I only caught a burglar once. He was happy to cooperate!
Stringbean did have his gun with him that night. He suspected that someone had broken into his home, what he didn't know was the Browns' had an ambush planned when he entered the home and they killed him before he could kill them...then they went outside and murdered his wife. The recovery of the pistol that String had that night, in a safe that they had bragged about to a later informant, was one of the clinching pieces of evidence that got them convicted to 198 years in prison.
Thankfully Stringbean was able to leave us performances like this. I was about 17 when String and his wife were murdered and it really made me mad that someone would shoot dead, such a gentle, friendly guy. My parents were about the same age as Stringbean and I remember them taking the news of his passing quite hard.
R.I.P. Stringbean, you banjo pickin' son of a gun.
An amazing and sad story. I don't recall hearing of this at the time it occurred, but did enjoy String on Hee Haw. "I got a letter from Momma yesterday . . . I keep it right here, next to my heart . . .heart . . . heart . . . heart." RIP
Remember when this I saw this on the news. Time sure flies, it does not seem like it has been that long ago. Also saw the A&E profile of it. Like someone
else commented entertainers like him are becoming real scarce!!
I love you so much Stringbean, rip dear.

No justice AT all! Such a senseless tragedy! I loved Stringbean and he is missed!

How sad a simple family with no bad in them, and the killers get to live out their natural lives. Probaly better than they ever had it. No Justice...
