These scenes were filmed in Argentina. The extras are Argentine gauchos (horsemen exelentes these men in my country) they have much in common with the Mongols. The steppe and pampas are vast spaces, voids, where the man feels tiny. Landscapes created such kindred spirits. A director rightly choose Argentina to film this.
@dellotti This book is very powerful spiritual text. It effects through its cultural presense Ukrainians in a big deal. I can tell: all the architypes in this story are genuine Ukrainian stuff.
For some strange reason this adaptation also has powers: actors look like my old friends from Kyiv and situations are like exactly it was in real life, I mean besides the sword fights of course, but the feeling is real life feeling.
Bokk has 9 screen adaptations+there is a book based on screen play
@dellotti Argentina actualy it's kind of unbelivable, until 1991 we had no idea ther were Ukrainians anywere beyond borders of fucking USSR. Argentina is Superb. Maradona is the best!!!! And thank you very much for your amazing landskapes.

the perfect role for yul brinner...epic scene as few can match this feeling!! unfortunately the movie was irregular and the final result was unsatifiying
Sirring stuff. Actually filmed in Argentina using gaucho cowboys as Ukrainian Cossacks. Yul Brynner had high hopes for this film, but despite some memorable scenes and music, the final version was a big disappontment for him. For the Ukrainian diaspora, this loose interpretation of Gogol's epic story was nevertheless a boon to the sense of national spirit and pride.
