This was the opening of the October 31, 1955 edition of "THE TONIGHT SHOW", presided over by its first host, Steve Allen.
He was the "loosest" of all the show's hosts because a) the show aired live; and b) Steve believed in maintaining a spontaneous "after hours" atmosphere. You never knew what to expect inbetween guests and musical numbers- such as everyone dressed as "ghosts" on Halloween!
Letterman is flat and stiff compared to this...this is GREAT Live tv!
