My Father went through OCS at FT Benning in the 40's Then shipped out as a 2nd Lt for DDay UTAH BEACH. He is now 94 and doing well. He lost a lot of friends before the War in Europe ended. 5th Armored Division, 46th Armored Infantry Battalion. His best friend was shot in the head by a German sniper. Without the music, looks like training is about as tough as it was in those days. It is all about fighting for the unit--your buddies. Kurt---Vietnam Vet 1970-71
@jc790 As an MP officer, you will not actually be patrolling roads or anything of that nature. Your job as an army officer would be more of a planning/ supervising job. To me, it sounds like you would be better suited as an NCO if you want to be an MP. (sources: im an army officer. just spent a couple months with an MP unit in germany.)
I just graduated college and have been working as an auxiliary police officer. We are armed and have the same powers as the full time officers while on duty. I'm very interested in going to OCS and becoming a second Lt and being an officer in the MP career field. Any advice for me would be much appreciated.
Its not any harder if you are infantry and go to OSUT...... these are all basic infantry tasks. If you aren't looking into infantry then yes it will be quite a bit harder.
@segarsrock It is not the same as AIT and is more intellectually challenging. Yes, there is a review of basics but they take it to the next level in that everyone has to lead the operations and planning as well. The key to understanding OCS is that it tests the intellect and one's ability to lead others under pressure and have integrity.
hahah good old Benning. Thats where I went for Basic. 30TH A.G sucked. But what are the basic requirements of getting into OCS? Of course Im already in the army, been in for 6 years. My contract is up. I just graduated from Penn state university and got my bacherlors degree. And I want to do OCS.
@DannyBoy52785 Hey there, go to your seniors and state your interest in OCS. They will put you in the process of recommendation at that time. Hope to see you on the other side, hooah! Email me if you need further info..
@DannyBoy52785 Must be a college graduate and between the ages of 18 and 30. People with prior service will go straight to OCS but those just enlisting must go to Basic Combat Training and then OCS.
I'm sure it's all changed since 2006 but I remember getting to OCS and all the prior service folks were like 'this sucks!' and all of us that just got out of Basic Training were like 'this is awesome!'
Is the army base in fort benning georgia a school to become an army officer as well??

Just remember that basic and OCS are very different. When you are sick of Basic, just hold on...OCS is a very difficult but great experience.
