I get to see Mr. Dave this Monday Night in a tiny little restaurant in Exeter, CA...Great food and great music. I hope he plays this song, but sings it like Jimmy Stuart (bonus track)
We turned our kids onto the "Prince of Polyester" when they were young. We are taking our son to this show as a 16th birthday present and I think he might actually be more excited than us!
G'day! Greetings to you all from wonderful Western Australia. Lindley is a very talented musician. For many years, I've been chasing a number of his called something like "Going to Columbus" (?). Anyone got any clues?
@ JOYFULLRIDER: Please listen: David Lindley has written this song! Timbuk3 is very good, but they have been in 'Windeln' as David has written this Song!
Pat MacDonald of Timbuk 3 wrote "National Holiday" and Timbuk 3 recorded it on "Edge of Alliance" in 1990. Dave recorded it on "Twango Bango II" in 2001 and credited Pat in the liner notes. One thing you can say about Dave (besides being a wonderful string player and singer and and and) is that he has great taste in music. In November, he did songs by Steve Earle, Danny O'Keefe, Warren Zevon, etc. He didn't write "National Holiday", but I wouldn't have heard it if Dave hadn't played it.
I've copied music for years, I admit it. But because I've been a Mr. Dave fanatic since 1981, I just couldn't dupe any of his stuff. I have that much respect for him. But it's a guilty pleasure to see this footage nonetheless.
I this song he is playing a Bouzouki he had custom made with extra frets. He also has a custom made Oud it's solid bodied and he carries it with him the last two times I saw him.
What Mr. Dave wants five bucks for is if you copy one of his CD's. These clips are just really good ads for him. I e-mailed him twice telling him I was posting these, never got a response.
He captured something with this song.

Seconded; I've followed David Lindley for years. More please, especially if there's a version of his live Mercury Blues out there...

There ought to be a national holiday in honor of David Lindley ; Fine music from an under-appreciated talent .
Thanks , wavydavey
