  • Photographer Ethan Russell's book 'Dear Mr Fantasy' has a great account of Quadrophenia.

  • keith lived a real life,he laughed his bollox off at life.rip buddy.

  • @OssyTuber Keith was never happy. You should read books like Full Moon: The Amazing Rock and Roll Life of the Late Keith Moon. By Peter 'Dougal' Butler.

  • People ---- Nothing describes this shit right here. So don't even try. Just enjoy, and rue the day this band is no longer .

  • Excellent. Oddly here it's a bit light on the right channel, but that's cool too..

  • MODS! MODS! MODS!

  • Often overused but this album is Epic.

  • @Jiggs46 Epic isn't really the word. I'd call it amazing, stunning, beyond adjectives. Epic is things like "Knights of Cydonia," "I Believe in a Thing Called Love," and This is Spinal Tap. Quad is beyond epic. Quad is high art.

  • I wish people could praise certain music without feeling the need to insult other music in the process.

  • Cant get much better...wooooo hooooo

  • is the 4 split personalities of jimmy meant to represent the whos 4 band members eg keith moon (RIP) drugs and so on cos jimmy is an addict to purple hearts and blues

  • The original vinyl version of this was the first quadrophonic record, with four channels of sound. Eventually, quadrophonic sound kind of fell out of general use, except in movie theaters. Even when the vinyl version reverted to being manufactured in only stereo, it and the early CD versions have some subtle background sounds and voices not heard on the remasters.

  • for a start it's "i sit and TELL him bout my weekend, but he never PORTRAYS wot he thinks !!!! WOOOOHH , i feel better now, fanks ohh i and just in case ya wonderin its "dressed rite" not "dess- sprite" for a beach fight!!!!!

  • @thecaddygrasscutter Definitely betrays.

  • The album Kicks Ass

  • The Ox kicking unholy @ss on this tune, and starting at 4:25 the Who go Maximum Rock. So good.

  • Sorry for the spam.

  • The insane thing is that this is just the Ox doing a practice take in order to find his way through the song. The band loved it so much they kept it, the rest is sweet sweet history.

  • Awesome bassline, must be one of the greatest bass lines ever. What a song.

  • Just listen to that, "CAN YA?!" Great song, great album. Fuck the six retards who clicked dislike.

  • Such a great album/rock opera

  • I'm kind of ashamed to be a Green Day fan and see all my fellow fans having no idea what A Quick One, Tommy, or Quadrophenia is. But, American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown were undoubtedly great albums and don't deserve the bad rap.

Also, I think you're all gay for arguing about music, of all things. There's no such thing as a "good band" or a "bad band" because it's your opinion, not the world's. So quit trying to anesthetize the way that we feel, kthx.

    Peace.

  • Listen real close at around :36 seconds into I Am The Sea....you can hear a voice (whose?) whispering very softly, "Iiiiiiiiiii Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaammmm Theeeeeeeeeee Seeeeeeeeeeeeeeea".

As many times I have lsitened to the whole album and that intro, I've never heard that before.

And yes, all the Who 'operas' were genius...especially when you consider when they were written. Genius!

  • One of my favorite basslines in all of rock....up there with noel redding's on Fire by the Jimi Hendrix Experience.

  • this album, Tommy, Who's Next, and Who Sell Out are certainly in the conversation of top 20 albums for me

  • could live with out the lyrics

  • for your convenience, 'the real me' starts at 2:10

  • This for record of anyone who doesn't know what quadrophenia is. It's a rock opera. done RIGHT. Not no American Idiot 21st Century shit. The Who made three rock operas. A Quick One(1966) which is a story about a woman fucking some other guy becuase her husband has yet to return home. Then in Tommy

(1969) was about a boy who is deaf, dumb, and blind named Tommy, and teh only way he can communicate is through music. Then Quadrophenia (1973) About mods and rockers in england in the early 60's

  • And almost made a fourth called Lifehouse and Peter Townsend released a demo of it on the Lifehouse Canonical.

  • @scaggs86 Thank you thank you thank you i absolutely cant stand people who sit around talkin about green day's rock opera and then you say the who and they dont know what the fuck your talking about.

  • @TurtleMooseKitty ya that and Jethro Tull "YEA HES GOOD" WTF

  • Comment removed

  • @scaggs86 Except A Quick one wasn't a full on rock opera; it was a straight album with a conceptual mini-opera.

  • @scaggs86 thats quite rude. Green Day is great.

  • @scaggs86

I think a quick one is actually story about Tommy's parents as it's introduced on Live at Leeds.

  • @scaggs86 Technically, The Who only wrote two full rock operas: Tommy and Quadrophenia. A Quick One While He's Away isn't a rock opera in the strict sense of the word. Pete Townshend himself classifies it as a "mini-opera". Also, if we consider mini-operas, The Who made two more other than A Quick One: Rael (which can be found in the album "The Who Sell Out") and Wire and Glass (from the more recent "Endless Wire"). But yeah, I completely agree The Who does rock opera the right way!

  • @scaggs86 The only way Tommy could communicate was through music? Tell me all about that. Lets see you even begin to tell me about Tommys' music or just refuse to. Quadrophenia was about Mods and Rockers in England in the "early 60's?" Yeah, it was that simple the way Tommy was. It didn't have anything to do with a Mod named Jimmy who followed The Who and had four distinct split personalities each represented by the four members of The Who.

  • @scaggs86 On the album cover for Quadrophenia there are reflections of each member of The Who in the four mirrors showing instead of all of the reflections being Jimmy. Quadrophonic sound was new in 73. With Quad you have four speakers. Four themes for each speaker. I'm just explaining basic stuff. You're not a genuine rabid fan of The Who and your in no position to set the record straight when it comes to The Who. Your just like the 33 American Idiots that gave you a thumbs up.

  • Yup, it also makes a lot more sense once you listen to the whole album. I won't give it away, but it's a genius introductory duo.

  • i dont understand the first song

  • i know it's been a while since you've watched this but the first song symbolizes the constant moving and changing of the sea. This is connected to his 4 different personalities and the idea that as the ocean constantly changes, so do his personalities. Or at least that's what i got from it XD

  • watch the movie

  • One of rocks baddest ass bass lines!

    God bless the OX!

  • ??? I wasn't insulting him, just pointing out a fact

  • and i was just playing around, wasnt meant to be harsh. its all good with the who fans.

  • lol. you ripped the description right off of Wikipedia.

  • ummm yea, so do most people. enjoy the effort, dont hate the playa. ;)
