  • Can we use Dorito Consomme instead of oil for that brown edge?

  • hmm...there´s just one problem...I love it slimy!...good video though!

  • Okra in Greek is use not in slice but cook entire in fresh tomato!. Is so good ^^

  • @spraraflesh Yep, Egyptians and Middle easterns eat it the same way too. Some Egyptians even dry them on strings in the sun before cooking them later.

  • i for one like the slime

  • No slime, all favor, good okra! how can one forget this? I will tell her this, when she complains...

  • You can also add a teaspoon or two of vinegar or lemon juice when u put the okra in the pan to fry it....

  • @Qyute that gets rid of the slime

  • deep fried okra

  • THANKS for the AWESOME TIP ~ but darling, if you refer to THIS MUCH oil as a mere "fine coating" ~ OMG! I'd hate to see how MUCH you consider a GENEROUS COATING!! :)

Also, I so hope that, that was either COCONUT or OLIVE oil & not the cheaper unhealthy sunflower & God Forbid Canola type!! BTW ~ For HIGHEST HEAT FRYING, COCONUT oil is the healthiest, because it's the only oil that doesn't 'spoil' at highest temperatures. I guess that OLIVE oil is one's next most suitable option though. :)

  • What the fuck i okra? Never seen that shit before

  • would you suggest frying them first before adding to Gumbo??

  • nu uh none for me!

  • Fine coating of oil? After she pours in half a cup.

  • @revenger1997 hey singaporean :D same same! i actually like the slimeyness :3

  • ..nothing's slimy when you fry the hell out of it...

  • In Nigeria, we want and love our Okra slimy. y in the world would u want it all....not slimy???

  • What makes all of your okra get tough? when growing, what makes your okra get tough?

  • @houseguest11 Letting it get too big is one thing that makes it tough.

  • What makes all of your okra get tough?

  • isn't okra supposed to be slimy? that's just my opinion.

  • as she says "conTRACT" she's actually being choked by the producer

  • But like my okra slimy D:

  • That was NOT a fine coating of oil!!! hahaha

  • press 6 and listen for 2 sec and do it again

  • Isnt it SUPPOSED to be slimy? Its good that way! It just LOOKS nasty!

  • What the fuck? A thin coating of oil? And. Okra without that slime isnt good. Its called texture bitch.

  • @genocidal123 RUDE

  • @leahva29 Fuck off.

  • man... it's about 1:30am here and i was startled by her voice. i can't sleep now~ :O

  • It always gets slimy for me after I cut it up and before I get it in the pan... I don't see how she kept that from happening. I was hoping to be informed. This is the first time CHOW has let me down...

  • aww but okra is like natto; without the slime its a like people without souls O.O

  • Slimy is tasty!

  • I love okra slimy or not, but most of my friends don't. Thank you for showing me how to get the slime out, so my friends will eat my gumbo.

  • i like okra when it's slimy...

  • "Just put a *fine* layer of oil..."

*stares" Yeah, so apparently a "fine" layer of oil there is about an inch of oil...?

"The okra cells, when they hit that hot oil, they *qqccchh* conTRAHKT! and they hold in their sliminess! 00:25 Sorry I just had to point that out >.>

  • But....I like my okra slimy OAO I like the texture that way~

  • This lady had a New Orleans seafood Throwdown challenge with Bobby Flay on food network.

  • that looks abit like jalapeno

  • Or you can wash the okra first, cut it and then flour and salt it. Fry it, then you get non-slimy okra. Then make sure you always drain off the oil.

  • Okra=always good slimy or not. wow she's frying okra how bad is that look at all of the oil it's absorbing.

  • great hint----I think that is y my kids wouldnt eat it

do u kno anything bout frozen okra? Fresh is hardly ever seen here in PA

  • I actually like the "slime". It acts as a natural thickener in stews. But fried okra is good, too

  • okra are lady fingers =)

  • Haha I actually like it kinda slimy, idk why :P... strange lady.

  • I've never heard of this stuff.

What does the taste compare to? According to wiki it's in the same family as cacao, but I suppose that doesn't say much about the taste..

  • wOw

  • so u deep fry

  • wtf is okra...

  • does this dumb white bitch not understand what a "fine" layer of oil is?

  • Having to choose between slimy or oily okra still makes no okra the better option :/

  • If you don't want it to be oily, try vegetable shortening, that's at least on the light side.

  • Okra is good if rolled in corn meal fried and then drained on paper towel. It doesn't have to be greasy or slimy.

  • man i almost shit myself XD

  • conTRACT!
