To keep Ameera from getting sent back to Iraq. Right now Iraq isn't exactly the safest place to live. Since Noah's father, Winston, helped Ameera and her late mother in Iraq survive and cared for them, Noah feels he has a responsiblity to Ameera. Since she has no relatives or next of kin in America, marrying a citizen was the only option(it was all Noah's idea). They all agreed that this would marriage in name only and only until Ameera gets a green card.
