  • Nice

  • Could "Unforgettable" be an appropriate title?

Thought about it for the whole night and got the inspiration in the afternoon, when I remembered Teresa's posthumous CD was entitled L'inoubliable (French for Unforgettable). Thought Miki-san could have used the same title in Japanese to commemorate his beloved friend. If so, the song would be unforgettable in more ways than one.

  • @gctlcda

    Wasure-naide watashi-no-koto-wo

(Please do not forget about me)

As you can clearly realize from this part of the lyrics I prepared above, this song is about the “request” or “wish” that she (Teresa) should never been forgotten. “Unforgettable” is not appropriate.

Some person uses “Time to say goodbye” as a subtitle of this song, but this is not suitable for this song.

  • @masami43 But that's exactly what the word "unforgettable" means: Cannot be forgotten!

I also find "Time to say goodbye" confusing.

  • @gctlcda

    Dear Thomas,

I am not willing to give a Japanese language lesson here, but Wasurenaide (忘れないで) does not mean "Cannot be forgotten", but is a REQUEST or WISH, as I repeatedly mentioned above.

Wasurenaide (忘れないで) is a short expression of Wasurenaide kudasai (忘れないで下さい) = "Please do not forget".

  • @masami43 OK, thx, sorry for your trouble. As always, arigato gozaimasu!

I see, didn't realize that the "kudasai" is implied. V polite, as Japanese tend to be. Good trait for sure in this less than civil world.

  • @arisansecret Def second to this. The song is just lovely!

The only shortcoming is that Teresa couldn't sing it...

  • Hello, Masami-san. Found this song yesterday, the version sung by Miki, and fell in love w/ it right away. Asked George if he knew an English translation for this lovely song and he referred to you, of course. Am so glad that I found your upload just now and read the beautiful lyric! Many thx for being so reliable in helping non-Japanese to appreciate Japanese songs even more!

Like Koji's rendition, but just can't help wondering how Teresa Teng would've sung it. Beautiful and perfect, as always!

  • I have recently discovered a Mongolian Chinese singer who sings this song very beautifully in Japanese. She is a newcomer on the Japanese scene, her name is Oruriko Rajifesu a sweet and beautiful woman with a voice that can make her a star. There are several videos on YouTube of her singing 3 or 4 songs (オルリコ-忘れないで (Wasurenaide)) on the motohiko0123 channel. But she will never replace TT.

  • @hiloviking

Yes, Oruriko is certainly a good singer of this Wasurenaide.

  • Incidentally I found & listened to "this song which was prepared for Teresa last time" few days ago???

Oh my,,,This is really fantastic song.excellent melody and the romantic lyrics.

Everyone can imagine how the song could be sounded if Teresa actually sang this song!!! Believe or not,,, Teresa sang this song for me in the dream last night.

It was amazingly beautiful. The miracle is truly happened to me.

Thank you Masami for bringing the magical song of Teresa to me.

  • @maki11able1

Maki has reached this video at last. Congratulations.

You can also appreciate splendid performance of Kohji. He is the only one male singer of this song. Next, please listen to “Kikasete” which was also prepared for Teresa.

  • Masami, thank you for informing me on the vocal and instrumental versions of this superb composition. Yes, it's a pity TT did not have a chance to sing this song, but it is a wonderful tribute to her, can't think of a better one. The lyrics are very touching and pertinent.

  • Masami43, thank you for another beautiful

song, now sung by Koji Susuki, sad that TT could not sang this composition just prepared for her. God bless Miki and Teresa, they are both together again in Heaven composing and singing celestial songs.

  • Thank you.

Kohji fans (incl. Kohji, of course) and Teresa, Miki Takashi, Araki Toyohisa, will be pleased to read your comment.

  • shed a tear when i was listening to this beautiful song...tks for sharing masami43.. it is songs like this one that makes us remember our loved ones even more, esp those who are gone...May the LORD bless the souls of Teresa Teng-san and Miki Takashi-san...

  • Let us pray sincerely for the repose of the soul of Miki Takashi (三木たかし), the great song composer who prepared many wonderful songs for Teresa Teng and others.

He passed away at the age of 64 on May 11, 2009.

  • Duriansa, Never knew there can such beautiful music & songs on earth.I always find solace in listening to this song after a day's work.Thanx for uploading & sharing this video with us.!.!.!.!!!!!

May God bless Jim Teng, 鄧長禧, and his family.

  • Really sad to hear about this news!

  • Beautiful!

  • I cannot get enough of this song! KoJi sang this song with so much passion that I think he had made it his very own. Thank you for uploading both verses.

On the line that says, QUOTE (Tatoe chigau-hito koishite irutokimo) (Even when you are in love with other lady) UNQUOTE, is "lady" still the correct translation, or was it impossible for KoJi to change the Japanese lyric?

  • You have a good point that because the original song (lyrics) was prepared for Teresa Teng to sing, everyone feels that this is the song of a female thinking about a male.

It is free for listeners to take "Even when you are in love with other lady" as "Even when you are in love with other person (either a male or a female)", depending on the individuals positions.

  • KoJi sings this song following the original lyrics and enunciation prepared by Miki Takashi.

Japanese phrases used in lyrics are very convenient in that the listeners can flexibly understand the meaning without a large deviation from what the song writers intend to deliver to the listeners.

The enunciation of the phrase "hito" sounds either a female or a male, although Miki Takashi used 女性 (a lady) to be pronounced as "hito".

  • I have modified my translation of the cocerned part, thank you.

  • Thank you, Masami43...Everytime I hear Koji sings this song, I can't help myselp to think about Teresa Teng and you...As long as this song are still playing then I know you are fine..and everything is okay..Domo Arigatou..

  • Thank you, I am fine, NaHana808.

  • Thank you for your listening. As you are aware, KoJi is the only one male singer who sings the same song 忘れないで, other than two other female singers.

Certainly, every person wishes Teresa could have performed this song originally prepared for her.

  • Thanks for posting this wonderful video clip.I enjoyed it.

  • masami43; Thank you so much for posting this lovely song for us to enjoy ! The song's melody is so nice. Although I don't the Japanese lyric, but I think you're a considerate person that you translated the lyric into English, then we know the meaning of this song ! LOVE is so great and sweet that Koji sings so nice and it makes people won't forget the meaningful lyric & the rhythm !! Thank you again for posting.

  • Thank you very much for this, masami43. It really is a most beautiful song and Koji is a fine singer. However I cannot get Teresa Teng out of my mind when I hear it especially now that you have provided the words in English and how much I would have loved to have heard Teresa singing it. It would have suited her so well.

  • Nice!

  • The best

  • Thank you very much for your quick pleasant response from Arisan.

You are always the leader in the most beautiful videos on YouTube.

    I am just a beginner.
