One has a zero after each digit (10, 20, 30 etc.) While the other is just single digits.

@penpen588 The dice color has no bearing on the effect of the dice itself. As far as luck and critical, just about every basic action is done with a roll of the d20. The d20 is rolled for the chance to perform actions such as jumping a ledge, picking a lock, or throwing a weapon. If the d20 is used with an attack roll, rolling a 20 (or a 19 with some weapons) will give you a critical strike. Damage is mostly based on your weapon, and is determined by rolling a d4, d6, d10, or d12.

@penpen588 The color of the dice has absolutely no relevance to what they do in the game. As for differentiating damage in the Players guide there is a chart with most of the weapons listen and with it comes a chart with their damage die types and criticals. Luck rolls can be used on just about any dice, it just depends on the GM and criticals are determined by the infamous D20. For the most part all you have to really do is ask your GM, for it is their game and they make the rules.

d12 is used for determining a barbarians hitpoints. Every time a barbarian gains a level he adds his constitution score to his max hit points and rolls a d12 and also adds that. The great axe also uses this dice to do d12 of damage. Thus the barbarian would have the most hp.

Damn. Well even if she did let you play it will be hard to find dnd books now a days. You could always get the fourth edition books but they don't feel like dnd persay. I play it but I still prefer the third edition for some reason. Personal taste. As to how you can get your mom to let you play?
