I love this. All of the partnering and choreography is brilliant. I just saw it last night at Streetcar Named Desire and it was even better live. The music is georgeous. I looked for the song, but couldn't find it. Could you tell me the title?
Of all the entries in the BNC competition, this is my absolute favorite. I'm not a Philip Glass fan, but the choreography is so beautiful and unique and is enhanced by the music quite effectively. Obviously, the company who danced in this video did an excellent job, but the choreography they had to work with was excellent as well. Kudos to all!
I was worried when I first heard the music because I have trouble seeing anything but Stephen Mills' "Hamlet" danced to it... but... I really enjoyed this. The partnering is really interesting, it's so easy to slip back into conventional, simple upright shapes and transitions and I really enjoyed watching how each duet developed and didn't fall back into something else.
I was very much absorbed by the beauty of the dancing flowing with the music, and by the excellently choreographed partnering sections... set on lovely dancers.
Lovely visuals...the choreography is captivating and intuitive. Seamless in its concept and design. The dancers flow nicely to the haunting music of Glass...well done.
It is too hard to judge video of dance! I am aching to see the entire design! Love Phillip Glass and how the music is used. I enjoyed the movement more and more as the excerpt progressed, especially the use of innovative gesture. Thanks to Rick who invited me to view his work!
Rick's choreography here is mesmerizing, as usual. He has a unique ability to capture the emotional complexity of Philip Glass's music and elevate it with dynamic choreography. To me, the intricate partnering is a trademark of Rick's work and a testament to his strength in understanding a dancer's facility.
My favorite part of this performance was the dances walking by the dancers in the fore and background during the routine. I enjoyed how the two featured dancers were almost always in contact with each other and flowed together almost seamlessly. However, the action did not keep my attention and desiring more. I also felt as though the music's tone could have been better captured by the choreography.
The work is well-crafted and structured, and mesmerizing! It's musical, capturing the nuances of the minimalist score, with a hint of drama. Some of the phrases (like the over-the back sequence, repeated in different tones) are quite memorable.
Partnering exquisit Use of music /dancers perfect Has done a lot of work ,classical to extremely contemporary ,on a variety of dancers ALWAYS makes them look/feel wonderful
Created works on dancers from Miami City Boston Pennsylvania Atlanta Washington Cincinnatti Ballet Ballet West PNB Ballet Met etc and many contemporary dancers especially during the NCSA summer series in Manteo Most loved experience Work would be asset to rep of any company!

I'm the choreographer. I get a recording of my work as part of my contract. It was 2005, I believe.

this is undoubtedly beautiful, but i can't help but question whether it is truly contemporary work, or simply gorgeous neo-classical work.

So many choreographers want to use Philip Glass, but very few are as up to the subtle challenges of the music as this.
Very impressive!

The performer's do the choreography justice, but they only look so beautiful because of the choreographer behind the work. Beautiful!
