If there isn't any game show video that you don't have Adam, I mean you have You Bet and You Don't Say and the original (My 5th favorite game show) hosted by Bill Cullen Price is Right!
If one had the time to think about it, he or she could name all 14. To do so under such huge pressure, with all the studio lights and everything else, is nothing short of incredible. I remember this watching at home, and I was standing up with my parents when Kit nailed it. Thanks for posting this -- I haven't seen it in 25 years.
and, as my dear wife and long suffering Bengals fan is quick to note, they lost twice to San Francisco 49ers and haven't done diddly since they fired Sam Wyche and old man Brown died...
I don't remember Kit having too many games that went like this, he won lots of his games by going straight to Double/Nothing or the Bonus Category, or "blitz" games as Wink called them.
man only adding $200 to the pot for 14 answers? Pulling something off like that should have gave $200 X 14 = $2800 to the pot. I know center boxes are 2 answers and give $300 to the pot. That should have been worth more to Kit
Wow. I can't believe this guy named all 14 states. What would have happened if he accidentally repeated one he already said? Would he have lost? Even if I knew all 14, I doubt I could list them all without repeating one.
damn i remember watching kit's run as a kid (it was reruns already but still). if i recall he won 30+ games and he lost to a black guy only because he missed a question, and the black guy lost immediately after beating kit to an old lady.
Johnny Gilbert announnced TTD before Kit's run, b/c a user named chrisvision recently posted up the 1st episode of TTD from S1 of the syndie run and it has Johnny Gilbert as the announcer.
Wink kinda screwed up there in setting the stage for the Auction question...he's usually so astute in making sure everyone knows what's at stake on each question..he probably should have let Kit know BEFORE he made the bid that if he failed on the bid and Kathleen got one right answer she would win the game!
Kind of amusing to hear Wink get a bit snippy with the judge on the pawn shop question..."well, I just thought I'd read what's on the card." Translation: "Hire some damn proofreaders!" :-)
Wait! that's a trick question.. Cincinnati and Detroit haven't had professional football for years .. :) don't take my word for it, just watch em play !!
Oh man! American geography must have been a good subject for him in school. I applaud him for his confidence that he knew all 14 and that he decided to go for it right off the top of that question.
In fact Jack had already passed away before Kit Salisbury even made his debut appearance on TTD. His first appearance was sometime later in May 1984 and this clip actually show game 2 of the Season 6 finale. The Season 7 debut episode started with Game 3 between Kit and Kathleen. I don't know hom many games had lasted between the two but I know Kathleen had won at least $500 going into the Season 7 debut. And this episode was the last time Wink did a "Hat Day Friday" moment IIRC.
Kit won the match at the beginning of Season 7 at the end of the third game. He won $7100. Interesting Fact is that this was the last time the Grand Question was used as one of the red catergories.
I could only think of 10 states.

I agree that that deserved a standing ovation! The only one I didn't get was Connecticut, although I thought it might be one, just wasn't sure.

Are people that bad at geography that this seems very hard? I mean naming all 14 is good, but they made it seem like he was a genious.

@Jdog7117 Part of it would be having the stones to bid 14.

The Auction category on TTD is similar to the Bid Trivia category on TJW.
BenJabituya 2 years ago
Hard to believe that a 36-game winner with almost $200,000 would spell "misspell"... unless spelling was one of his worst subjects.

Kit was a beast for naming all 14 states in that one question. That was absolutely amazing!

I could do it also.
Give the man his props!
StukInBuf 3 years ago
Yes, I didn't think the question was that challenging either. But, it was difficult enough to warrant it being in the Auction Category.
SuperGamer7 2 years ago
that really wasn't a hard question imo.
i guess thats cuz i live on the east coast though

And so did Kit, since he hailed from W. Palm Beach, FL...that may have been a factor. :-)

I think that this was also the last season to have the circular TTD logo (seen on the floor) in the center of the stage.

Do you have any episodes where the buzzers were first used or the CBS version of Tic Tack Dough with the black boxes being jump ins?

The VERY tricky thing with that question is that people are tempted to say Pennsylvania, since people refer to it as a east coast state. Well done.
