The more I watch this kind of television I realize how professional the stars WERE. After all, even though the show was recorded, it was done LIVE before an audience with no lip-syncing and no post-show fixing. Dennis
I've talked with people who worked with Kate Smith and they said she knew more than anyone--producer, director, cameraman, lighting director, whatever--about getting a show right and she made sure everything WAS right. As a woman she was way, way ahead of her time because she was not afraid to take charge. She also lived a supersized life; she had an enormous range of interests, was a self-characterized sports nut and loved driving her own car here and there. Nothing ever dull about Kate!
Great clip - thanks for sharing. Kate really was an all round entertainer. I have posted a video response of one of her earlier broadcasts which shows her voice off just as well.
Great stuff by 2 pros. And may I add to Waynebrasier's comment "She believed she owed her audience perfection"..you said it! You sure don't get that feeling from most of the "entertainers" performing nowadays. Thanks, TEFSHOW, for sharing this treat with YOU TUBE.
It all looks so casual, so much fun but believe me, they are rehearsed to the last detail. This number is just terrible to do because the singer easily falls into doing the other singer's part. Kate believed in bringing to each song a demeanor and a mood which suited the song. She's bouyant here but I'm sure in rehearsal she was highly focused. She believed she owed her audiences perfection.
Two of the best together in a wonderful number ... what more could you ask for? Kate Smith also had her own show on TV ... I remember watching it as a young boy in Michigan. I can still hear her singing "When The Moon Comes Over The Mountain". Thank you for sharing this.
NOW THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT! 2 old pros having a ball. It just does not get any better than this! Kate Smith...you are the GREATEST! Thanks for the video..more please!

I've never seen this--it's great!! Chet Atkins played both of these melodies on one of his albums, but I cannot find it. Anyone heard or seen it?

I believe it's from the musical "Annie Get Your Gun." Certainly Broadway, at least.
