To review the development of Mondrian's work and realise what he was working out were the social arrangements, house by house, block by block, street by street, of New York (and elsewhere) relative to what part were played by block (in the path of his playschool progress, so to speak), makes them cliched squares more than a bowl of carkeys makes a 1970s party exit.
I wonder if they were on acid like crazy or just really quarky and weird lol. Its a tough call cuz even though this is some of the strangest and most bizarre music you can find, the harmonies are still crazy good and below the surface of the craziness its pretty frickin good music
The song has stayed with me since i was young! My dad used to play the B-52's when we drove throughout Australia from Sydney to the Melbourne, thanks for uploading! LOL i've always laughed at the singer behind at 0:18
@MrTsquared88 I never fully analyzed the lyrics. Right now I think its about someone who's afraid of socializing because he/she fears messing things up.
@101Volts hmmmm. i never really thought of it that way. the B-52's lyrics are all so ridiculous and far fetched, that i never really tried to find deeper meaning in them. I just always heard a bunch of lyrics that dont really have much to do with each other. but i think you might be right, this song's about being afraid of socializing
@MrTsquared88 Yeah, A lot of their lyrics don't have clear meaning to them. I have no idea what "53 Miles West Of Venus" Is supposed to mean. And, Now that I think of it, I think I heard that Fred wrote these lyrics after meeting a racist guy? I don't recall where I heard it from exactly.
I had never noticed before...at 1:39 is Kate Pierson doing the bass part with that keyboard? I read somewhere that Ricky did kind of a bass part with a particular tuning of his Mosrite, but seeing this got me confused. Great song.
@101Volts Hey 101- Not only did Ricky Wilson (singer Cindy's brother) & guitarist die in '85; he was one of the 1st well known names in music to succumb to a then little-known disease called AIDS.
That tragic event almost caused the disintegration of the band as they stopped touring and recording for three years. Luckily for them and for us they went on to produce excellent music and honor Ricky's legacy.
The B52s were just fantastic. I use to party to this song back in the very early 80s. In fact, they were one of the few groups that could change the atmosphere in a club. WHen this or Rock Lobster came on, the entire club would dance together and sing the lyrics. It was "fantabulous"
I still laugh when I think of what "Miss B" on Real Radio in Orlando said about them 15 years ago one day...something to the effect of 'Oh yeah, those two girls who sing their asses off and that guy." LOL
May I mention that they used Planet Claire in a kids movie? It was actually a pretty decent film despite it being that graphic animation, not graphic as in nudity and gore. I just don't know what to call it, but they're making every kids movie with it. Whatever happened to 2D, drawn animation? Btw, I'm not a kid, just enjoy the old days of animation...this doesn't apply to Disney, frankly they can go suck Chef's salty chocolate balls. ;J
I jus saw these guys 3 hrs ago here in Idaho! it was an outdoors concert, it was GREAT!!! this was there opening song........had a blast! must hav burned 3000 calories danceing this mess around!! lol ::))
i think the little kids is good. if they like this music instead of bieber and all that other junk, that is cool. but the whole OMG IM 12 AND I LOOOVE THIS GROUP thing is actually quite annoying, and i see it a lot. if youre a kid and you like old music, good, but kindly stop rubbing it in other peoples faces
Like something non-mainstream? Then you may like KOZMIC DREAMERS. I find their artistic vision and expression of ideas refreshing. If you listen to them you may like them and perhaps buy a song or poem from itunes. Thanks for reading this.
I Saw the B-52's at the Roseland Ballroom April 11, 1982. Met Fred,Ricky and Keith at the back door. They signed autographs. What a bunch of down to earth guys. Cindy and Kate were inside with their boyfriends.
Can't I please come to the video to at least see one comment rated high that isn't as closed minded as a twelve year old kid? Oh well. I can't have my B-52 and fly it too. Back in 2007 and 2008 Youtube was full of douchebags and spammers, Now its full of little kids.
@oldmusicrevisited Seriously, and they're all so impressed with themselves for listening to anything that was recorded before they were on the planet. As if there isn't already three generations born behind them.
@RandiSierra Reminds me of me. Ah, Ignorance... I'm 20 and at age 10 I doubt I would have hesitated to feet proud for listening to the Ramones or some other well known band.
