Hariharan or Shankar Mahadevan knowing Tamil well is an icing on the cake. Whenever I listen to both of them, I used to wonder why not other North singers like Udit, Sukhwinder, Sonu, Shreya or Asha Bhonsle learn Tamil and sing. It'll be a treat to listen to them in correct pronunciations.

It need not be viewed as a racist comment. I agree that music has no barriers; however, lyrics - and the intensity of the lyrics and the depth of the meaning conveyed - varies among languages. This is sadly true even to songs that are directly translated from one language to another. Being equally fluent in Tamil and Hindi, I have seen this occur in so many songs of films that were re-made in Hindi.
